Does he have to take it private? I guess I always assumed a Board was required for public companies. Heck, even our travel ball team had a "board" because we were a 501c3

rocksanddirt's avatar

a corporation has to have officers (president, etc.). Doesn't have to have a board I don't think, though most large ones do.

O.Overall's avatar

Typically in CA for a C Corp you need 3 directors. In DE you just need 1. I assume Twitter is a DE Corp so Musk will just make himself the sole director.

[broadly gesturing at a map of the greater DC area]

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i am in the "greater DC area" this week.

not sure i want to venture too far from College Park, but it seems like a food wasteland in the nearby vicinity.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

Cross Bronx "Expressway" that leads off the GW Bridge.

in the 20+ years i have been here, it is always under construction and generally a traffic nightmare

DC Trojan's avatar

oh that one sucks - going GW bridge - Cross Bronx Expressway - Hutchinson - Merritt is just an appalling example of what happens when you don't maintain (NY) or expand (CT) roads. Like an idiot I used that route while trying to get to central MA earlier this year for some college tours.

SGBear's avatar

Honorable mention to Northbound CA-13 - that little freeway that starts at 580 and turns into Tunnel Road. It is a short and fast freeway. The exit to get onto Highway 24 (5c) is around a bend and sometimes it gets backed up on the bend. Every now and again - someone gets killed from slamming into the back of someone on that bend going 70 mph.

FiatSlug's avatar

That's the Warren Freeway. Is exit 5C the transition from NB Hwy 13 to EB Hwy 24? You'd think drivers would be more careful especially as it dumps into the approach to the Caldecott Tunnel.

heyalumnigo's avatar

80 through Berkeley. Seems to always be traffic.

BentPawn(Don)'s avatar

880 during commute hours is hellish.

O.Overall's avatar

Used to be the fastest way to Monterey - a thrill ride!

FiatSlug's avatar

I can attest to this having driven it everyday for 3 months before I married Mrs Slug in 1986. Most motorists drive it like a freakin' bat out of hell. There's a certain video game mentality among the drivers on that highway. It straightens out for a bit once you get to Scotts Valley (southbound). The roadway between Los Gatos and Scotts Valley is a twisty turny mess. I can remember driving it before there was a median barrier (K-rails). It was good for a head-on collision about once every 3 or 4 months, at least.

DC Trojan's avatar

It's not the for the faint of heart. A lot of roads in that neck of the woods are the kind where you can easily tell who drives them every day and who are the visitors.

FiatSlug's avatar

Highway 9 is also like that, only narrower and sharper turns. I'm guessing from my vague memory that you might be familiar with Highway 9. Didn't your parents live in the Santa Cruz mountains at one time?

DC Trojan's avatar

You remember correctly, they lived in Boulder Creek. I actually found Hwy 9 easier because it's only one lane in each direction and there's only so fast you can go (offer does not apply to the motorcycle enthusiasts at the weekends). Bear Creek road is super windy though.

Cugel's avatar

That is true - but most times I actually liked driving it except for that first time back.

Cugel's avatar

I had one absolutely miserable drive on 17 - driving back from visiting my son at UCSC to show him the stick-shift M5 I had just bought - nightmare driving that car up the hills with bunches of auto drivers who don't give you an inch in the 3 hours of drive time in a traffic jamb.

Blah.

FiatSlug's avatar

Oh, gawd. That must have been awful.

sycasey's avatar

There's also that crazy "fish hook" merge to Highway 1 in Santa Cruz.

FiatSlug's avatar

That's the merge from NB 1 (coming from Capitola) onto the last little bit of SB 17, IIRC. Not particularly well designed is it?

O.Overall's avatar

Either 80 or 880. I thought 8 was good luck!

dcblue's avatar

It's not bad for traffic but it is bad for accidents. I run a ped bridge over the parkway a few times a week and see the aftermath of many of these accidents. People need to slow down because it's a parkway not an interstate.

Midwestern corn tastes better than west coast corn. I don't know why, as this is the exception to the general rule of west coast produce being superior. West coast is too sweet and the kernels tend to be smaller.

space_lab's avatar

Yeah, you want yellow sweet corn, none of this tasteless white stuff.

heyalumnigo's avatar

I think white corn taste sweeter than yellow corn. I try to get white corn when I have a choice. i don't need any flavoring at all. Just put it in boiling water for like 3-4 min and then just eat straight off the cob.

SGBear's avatar

Corn is primarily dent (starch, feed), sweet golden bantam (corn on the cob), flour (flour, tortillas), and flint (cornmeal, hominy, popcorn). These are bred to be the best in terms of starch, sugar, or - for the last two - texture. But they aren't bred for flavor. I recommend you try heirloom corn varieties, which tend to be more "corny" tasting.

paulie's avatar

Candy corn is an abomination.

sycasey's avatar

I think it's fine and have never understood the hate for it. I wouldn't seek it out or anything, but it's fine.

FiatSlug's avatar

Probably because it's only slightly adulterated corn syrup.

Irony being that corn syrup is often used in recipes for pecan pie.

Justbear's avatar

There are a lot of corn in the US specifically grown to be eaten by animals and not human.

dcblue's avatar

My sister lives in Iowa and over half of their corn is grown to be used in ethanol.

Jamieson Sheahan's short punt at the end of the third quarter (32 yards) pushed him down the league tables for country's best punter. He is now #9, down from #6, in YPK (45.49).

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

They're sure cold from 3 to start the year.

sycasey's avatar

The defense has been terrible, but they are also playing a bunch of young guys so you kind of expect that. I'm not really worried about whatever happens in the first month.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Agreed. And though he may never live up to being the #2 overall pick, it's nice to at least see some production out of Wiseman. He also lacks the basketball instincts to be even a solid defender, but if he can grab some boards, and be a presence, that'd help.

Early in the season, as opposed to the last time we saw them, this team kinda misses Otto P and GPII, tho both are hurt at their new locations.

sycasey's avatar

Defense is probably the last thing to come with a young big man like Wiseman, so I think there's plenty of room for improvement there. He certainly seems to have the physical tools, so let's see what he can learn.

As an unabashed critic of Jimmy G, a tip of the cap to him...he played an excellent football game.

And he remains a fun post-game interview, at least after a win. If he can string together a series of games like this in the playoffs, the Niners can absolutely beat any team in the NFC.

dcblue's avatar

Looks like the Niners are tied with the Commanders for the last wild card spot at 4-4. Lots of teams right behind at 3-5.

sycasey's avatar

The NFC is looking so weak right now that it's hard to imagine them not getting a playoff spot.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Once their defense gets healthy, they're probably winning the NFC.

goldenone's avatar

After reading that article, Stanf*rd also has a bureaucracy problem.

Scootie's avatar

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd guess that the bureaucracy problem is driven in part by the fact that Stanford has a rape problem.

Illinois' defense has had an amazing turnaround over the past two seasons. This season, they lead the country by a mile in almost all defensive statistics. Allowing only 6 TDs all season, fewer than 225 YPG, and only 3.92 yards per play. Their second-year linebacker coach? Andy Buh.
