CA Prop 22. Thoughts? (fyi for out-of-staters, it was brought by Uber, Lyft & others to keep gig workers as independent contractors vs as employees). Apparently, we all are now on W4C mostly because of CA AB 5 which said if you work too much, you're an employee (there were also reasons of editorial independence). If I'm not mistaken, VOX Media (owner of SB Nation among other properties) complied, and said you can write <x> number of articles per <time period>, or you're fired, because we're not hiring you as an employee. I'm wondering what the writers who moved from CGB to W4C have to say about Prop 22. On the surface, it would seemingly be bad as it was brought by the giant corporations who what to keep the workers down. But it lifts the "poof! you're an employee" provisions of AB 5, so folks are free to drive Uber, etc (and presumably write articles) as much or as little as they want. There are more subtleties in the proposition, but that's how it looks to me.
Among Us. Anyone play this game? No 3 plays with his friends and tried to get me to play. He said that they play with some little kids that are idiots so I said nope. But I did watch him play. Kinda seems like it might be fun but not when you can play against any idiot out there.
And I now understand some of the memes on reddit and understand "sus".
My friends played, and it seems like it's important to have Steam and Discord? Something about how you download it and then needing push to talk or something.
I don't know. I just know No 3 has it on his phone and then gets into conversations with his GF and other friends using facetime on his macbook while they're playing together.
The Jump Around at Camp Randall is pretty cool. I was there in '08 for the Ohio St. game and the Bucky Badger-led student section-event was as advertised...incidentally, the entire Wisconsin Marching Band was suspended for that game after charges of "sexual misconduct" amid a hazing probe surfaced. Head scratching....
I wouldn't mind a game there. Also Michigan. Those are probably the two Big-10 schools I'd like to see Cal play at. I'll be pissed if we can't go to the game at ND. We should be fine by then, right?? right??
Rassmussen Polls: Trump's approval levels dive to 44%. Down 9 points in 3 weeks. Negative 15 gap. Trump finds new favorite polling company in 3... 2...
"In addition, Trump’s labs “demonstrated detectable levels of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies from labs drawn Monday,” Conley wrote, adding that “initial IgG levels drawn late Thursday night were undetectable.”
Conley’s memo referred to the long-lasting antibodies the human body produces to combat the coronavirus, not the cloned antibodies Trump received in the form of a drug treatment."
"Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. said that the presence of antibodies in President Donald Trump’s blood could be the result of him taking the company’s experimental Covid-19 treatment last week.
Sean Conley, the president’s physician, said in a memo summarizing the president’s health on Wednesday that detectable levels of SARS CoV-2 antibodies had been found in a sample drawn Monday. Conley said antibodies weren’t detected on Thursday.
Regeneron spokeswoman Alexandra Bowie said in an email that given the volume of antibodies delivered in the company’s cocktail therapy, and the timing of the tests, “it is likely that the second test is detecting REGN-COV2 antibodies.”"
Listening to his statements over the last several days, I appreciate his honesty (especially given all the liars in this administration) but I'm also amused about how delicately worded everything is to maximize vagueness. On Monday when asked about Trump's oxygen saturation levels he said something along the lines of "below 94, but definitely not as low as the mid-80s."
NY Times: Sessions and Rodstein actively pushed policy to separate children from parents at the border. Reminder, illegal border crossing is a misdemeanor.
Dodgers explode to beat Padres 5-1 after going hitless for half the game. San Diego manager gets tossed for pointing out the Dodger bias was a little too obvious. Hard to argue against his point given that the plate, who has a scouting report of a liberal strike zone, missed at least a half dozen called strikes in on half inning, based on K-zone and replays of it.
Dodgers got another strong but brief start from Walker Buehler. LA has won his last 3 starts post-blister, but some time soon they are going to need more than 65 pitches from him.
They have starting pitching, bullpen pitching, good defense, power, contact hitting, good base running, and interchangeability. Hard to beat them in all those areas at once.
Their key is to not swing at pitches outside of the zone. Wear down the pitchers. And the key for this series is to get a look at their relievers so that the next time they come into the game they're ready. I mean the Padres only have 2 more starters, and they aren't that great. Regardless of what Clevinger says if I were the Padres I'd put him on the IL and bring up another arm. This series has to go at least another 3 games if they win and I would guess their bullpen will throw at least 18-20 of the next 27 innings. And if it goes 5 it will probably be 27-29 of the next 36. They really screwed themselves by letting Clevinger try to pitch last night.
Tampa Bay continued a streak of not blowing a lead after the 7th inning that extends back to the middle of last season (although they initially gave it a good try in the 9th), and evened the series with the D@#& Yankees at a run apiece.
This after Stanton got one of the shortest, luckiest HRs you will ever see for NY, and then hit one that was anything but. It hit the wall of the stadium above the top of the upper deck.
I was watching a fantasy football show right before kickoff the other day and the players had their mascot names next to them. The Washington player's mascot was "The Team" haha
I was really self-centered and thought that my phone buzzing was people on the East Coast wishing me a happy birthday. I thought, "I'll respond to them later, I'm going to sleep in today!"
But no, it was work. Jennifer Doudna's group has done a lot of structural work at my facility, so that's how I found myself starting work at 7am. Meanwhile, in the flurry of emails, my boss's boss sends one to say: Today's really BIG news is 747 wins the Fat Bear contest. Called it weeks ago.
I've been watching the Miata build in the Extreme Daily Drivers channel with the person from your other blog and her husband. Haven't seen an update in a few weeks. It does look like they're having a fun time. Looks like something I'd want to try at some point.

If Uber is for it, i'm against it.
I voted no. I understand that perhaps a plurality of part time giggers may be for it, but overall it's very bad for worker protections.
Journalists, musicians and some other professions who are traditionally freelance have already been exempted from AB5 via the legislature.
Your explanation makes me feel more comfortable voting no!
The language around exceptions and inclusions is often the most important part of any such proposal.
I'm solidly against it.

A's fall to Springer and the Astros 5-2. Facing elimination today and are sending Luzardo to the mound.
"A's facing elimination" seems like their usual state of being in the playoffs.
Surprisingly their most effective hitter in the postseason is KD.
KD didn't even give the Nets a chance to win?

It just seems like you can't hold this Dodgers lineup down for a full 9 innings. They will get to somebody on your staff.
They have starting pitching, bullpen pitching, good defense, power, contact hitting, good base running, and interchangeability. Hard to beat them in all those areas at once.
Bellinger goes up and over the fence in center field to save a 2 run Tattis HR in a 1 run game.

Washington not having a new mascot by now seems like it is just Dan Snyder being passive-aggressive, no?
I think he said he was going to wait until next offseason...lame.
But they do have a new QB. Dwayne Haskins benched. Kyle Allen to start backed up by Alex Smith.
The Washington Football Team. Should they be "The Lobbyists?"
