The No. 7 California men's water polo team (11-8, 1-2 MPSF) is set to welcome the nation's top-two ranked teams this weekend for the Golden Bears' final home games of the season. This will be the second time in Berkeley for both No. 1 UCLA (18-1) and No. 2 USC (16-3), both of which advanced to the final of the Overnght MPSF Invitational in September. The Bears have been defeated by the Bruins by five goals twice this season and fell to the Trojans 16-13 in their only meeting in early October. Cal's leading scorer on the year is Max Casabella, whose 48 goals rank fourth in the conference.

Freddie Freeman played through postseason with fractured rib

https://www.truebluela.com/2024/11/1/24285091/dodgers-freddie-freeman-rib-fracture

At the start of October, Freddie Freeman’s season looked to be finished after suffering a sprained right ankle in the Dodgers’ final regular season home game. At the end of October, Freeman mashed his way to becoming the 2024 World Series MVP, drilling four home runs and driving in 12 runs in the Dodgers’ five game series win.

On top of dealing with a bad ankle, and having sustained a fractured middle finger back in August, it was revealed that Freeman managed to play through the entire postseason with a broken costal cartilage in his sixth rib, which is an injury that usual sidelines a player for months.

About last night. You all should be ashamed of yourself. Last night’s DBD Halloween party besmirched the fine name Daily Bear Dump. I’ve never seen such outlandish behavior nor so many people totally out of control. (Who brought the trapeze?) One expects a certain amount of drug and alcohol consumption but you made hardened addicts blush. We’ve received formal complaints from the Cal Dance Team, The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Rockettes and Amnesty International. Even the hookers one of you hired thought the evening got out of control. (I’ve personally called the Monsignor to apologize.) Also in future please note that wearing masks is perfectly okay but when that’s all you’re wearing, well I think you’ve gone a bit too far. Let’s take a long look in the mirror and decide if this is the kind of revelry we want to be associated with. We’ve got the annual Thanksgiving party coming up to which significant others will be invited. Let’s do better. And oh by the way….Go Bears!!!

After some somber introspection, I've determined that this is exactly the type of revelry I want to be associated with.

So in other words, a typical night in Berzerkly?

I don't care what people do in the privacy of not being out in public, but can we please dispense with the "Berzerkly" (or any other variation on that word) nonsense? There are plenty of berzerker politicians and activists in the US and they very often hail from places outside of California.

It’s time again for Oski Disciple’s Bear Facts.

St. Mary’s used to be a regular football opponent for California, the schools met 43 times from 1898 through 1950. The Bears won 33 of those contests and lost eight with two games ending in ties. The Bears outscored the Gaels over the course of the series, 945-265. California’s last defeat to St. Mary’s was in the opening game of the 1945 campaign. One notable Bear victory was on September 27, 1941 the day that Oski made his debut. Cal won 31-0. (Their only other victories that season came against Furd, U$C and UCLA in what was surely the best losing season in California history.) The Bears’ last game against St. Mary’s was a 40-25 victory on October 28, 1950, it was the sixth game of the Bears’ third consecutive unbeaten regular season. At 1-3-1 this was not a strong St. Mary’s team, yet this day the Gaels scored only five points less than California’s first five opponents combined. However the game was never in doubt the hosts having raced out to a 28-0 halftime lead. California back Pete Schabarum rushed for the game’s first three TDs. According to the next day’s San Francisco Examiner, “perhaps the brightest thing about the game, from the Cal standpoint was the fact that the Bears finally made some yardage in the air.” California connected on ten passes in twenty-four attempts for 167 yards.

Oski Disciple’s Bear Facts appears Tuesday through Thursday on the DBD throughout the 2024 college football season, this post was scheduled for Wednesday but the Daily Bear Dump was suspended that day due to a violation of league policy on drug use.. This feature is brought to you by Brylcreem, a little dab’ll do ya.

I presume the violation was for not enough drug use?

The 1920 team defeated St. Mary's at California Field, on October 9, 127-0.

Cal outscored its opponents that season by a combined score of 510-14, including a 28-0 shutout of Ohio State in the 1921 Rose Bowl.

The 1920 St. Mary's game was the widest margin of victory that year and in Cal football history. Thd closest game that year was a 17-7 victory over Oregon Agricultural (now known as Oregon State) on October 30 at Bell Field in Corvallis, OR.

It's a shame that we lost a regular opponent that we could count on a win.

I was just watching ESPN on my morning flight and they were covering Big 10 football.

I kind of miss playing USC already. We don't win conference games anyway so loss to USC won't hurt.

I don't entirely disagree...if they could just leave that damn band home it would be ideal.
