I'm overwriting the earlier version of this comment because it now looks inappropriate in light of events and circumstances that have come to light since the earlier version.

Cowboys DE Marshawn Kneeland's death followed a high speed pursuit and may have been a suicide. In retrospect, my introductory line looked flippant, and I regret the choice of words.

Luis Suarez gets a one match suspension for kicking an opponent despite no yellow or red card. Well, that bites.

Sewer _

is probably responsible for my first serious bike crash and breaking of collarbone. to be fair, i dont remember and it wasnt clear why i would have been so close to the sewer grate at that moment.

since there was a 2nd similar unexplained crash w/ a pot hole, i guess we'll attribute it to me not being watchful enough (maybe?)

If sewer grates were installed with the grate lines perpendicular to the curb, this kind of accident would happen far less often.

SOCCER: what a game last night. Bears advance, with an upset at Duke for the second year in a row, and will host an ACC Tournament game for the first time ever this Sunday. Come out to Edwards to support this clutch squad! https://theacc.com/news/2025/11/6/wild-games-highlight-first-day-of-2025-acc-mens-soccer-championship.aspx

Pelosi won't seek a new term. It's time and it's good to see that she won't overstay like Dianne Feinstein did.

It was insane when Feinstein ran for that last term. Six more years! Not shocking that she didn't make it.

What was insane is the deference shown to Feinstein in announcing her candidacy for re-election. She wasn't capable and *many* people knew it. She should have been ushered off the stage in a polite and kind way.

But that didn't happen and here we are. The public should not be held hostage by someone unwilling to give up power. See the current occupant of the Oval Office for an example of why this is a bad idea.

I suspected this was coming when Weiner announced he was running for Congress. I also had this announcement earmarked for roughly this time after she agreed to cede power after 4 years in the run up to the 116th Congress, when she became Speaker in 2019. It's always a bit abrupt to realize that you've been somewhere for a very long time when it is measured against other timelines and tenures.

Mrs Slug and I moved into Casa de Slug in April 1987, which was soon after the death of Sala Burton in February 1987. Sala Burton represented San Francisco in the US House of Representatives from 1983 to 1987, succeeding her husband, Philip Burton, who had died suddenly in 1983 of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Pelosi won Sala Burton's seat in a special election to the House on June 2, 1987, about 7 weeks after Mrs Slug and I moved into Casa de Slug. In other words, we've been in the same house for a few weeks more than the entirety of Nancy Pelosi's tenure in the US House of Representatives, more than 38 years. In that time, we've raised two sons, seen both of them graduate Cal Poly SLO, and launch their own lives.

How time flies.

DC sandwich thrower found not guilty of assault

https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/06/politics/sean-dunn-dc-sandwich-thrower-verdict

The man who threw a Subway sandwich at a federal officer in the early days of the Trump administration’s law enforcement surge in Washington, DC, earlier this summer has been found not guilty of assault.

The incident quickly became a symbol – somewhat in jest – for resistance in DC against the Trump takeover of law enforcement and ramp up in deportation efforts, with spray painted posters and internet jokes spreading as an homage to the incident popping up in its wake.

During the trial, federal jurors were shown several videos of the man, Sean Dunn, yelling at officers before throwing a subway sandwich at one Customs and Border Protection agent before running away and being detained shortly thereafter.

In one video taken from a police officer’s body-worn camera, Dunn told the officer, “I was trying to draw them away from where they were. I succeeded.”

COMMENTARY: I'm gonna put on my calendar for next year to have a footlong in honor of Sean Dunn and as a nod to Twist. I promise not to throw it at anyone.

As for not throwing it, I think that's probable given that I don't see a lot of ICE in Oakland or Berkeley.

Ben Finley slayed the Minutemen Tuesday night, 44-10. He is having a good year, especially the last several games. He was knocked silly on a broken-play scramble at the goal line in the third quarter, but miraculously stayed in the game while visibly n considerable pain the rest of the way. Happy to see Ben enjoying some success. https://www.hustlebelt.com/mac-football/43362/akron-zips-umass-minutemen-game-recap-notes-stats-november-4-2025
