The Golden State Warriors have no panicked about their slow start to the season, and it’s not hard to see why. They’ve had a brutal schedule which, combined with some absences, has made their losses somewhat understandable … if still frustrating.
Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst games ever of his long NFL career. Keenan Allen passed Antonio Gates for the most receptions in the Chargers history.
Mrs Slug was thrilled that the Chargers sacked Rodgers for a safety early in the game. She likes to see safeties, especially for teams she doesn't like.
This is a hard truth of great players: the decline often comes on suddenly. They show flashes of the brilliance that they are known for, but it's only a cruel reminder that time waits for no one.
BERKELEY – Defender Beau Morrison scored his second career goal to power the 12th-seeded California men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over 13th-seeded Pitt on Sunday in the ACC Championship quarterfinals and set up a meeting between the Golden Bears and top-seeded Virginia in the semifinals.
BERKELEY - California men's tennis senior Tiago Silva qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship with a singles victory on the third day of the ITA West Sectional Championships on Saturday at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
Silva defeated Arizona's Zoran Ludoski 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Silva's defeat of Ludoski, who is seeded fifth and ranked 63rd, was his third ranked win of the tournament. With the win, he qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships which are set to begin on November 18th in Orlando, Florida. Silva had also qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship alongside Junior Timofey Stepanov after winning the ITA Northwest Regionals to qualify. Silva also joined Sophomore Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski who qualified for NCAA Singles after making the finals at the ITA Northwest Regionals.
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team used a dominant fourth quarter to run away with a 69-52 win over visiting Sac State at its home opener at Haas Pavilion on Sunday night. The Golden Bears (1-1) handed the Hornets (2-1) their first loss of the season and extended their winning streak to seven in the series.
SEATTLE, Wash. – Greta Greco Lucchina added to her postseason schedule when the California women's tennis sophomore won a playoff match at the ITA West Sectional Championships on Sunday to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship.
A few notes: Uluave was a team captain but not dressed and was in a soft splint for his hand. Hampton played more snaps than Taggarts. Does Taggart stay at the end of the season? Louisville went into the teeth of our pass defense, going against Masses and Poidore, not Austin and Sidney. Murray was healthy enough to do kickoff but not long PKing, so that's weird. Honore was punting and he was lowkey sketchy. Quaron Adamas is hella fast. Mini started but he was clearly demoted as a main target.
SEATTLE, Wash. – Berta Passola Folch qualified for the NCAA individual championships for the first time when the Cal women's tennis senior won in the singles quarterfinals at the ITA West Sectional Championships on Saturday.
Passola Folch, a senior, defeated USC's fourth-seeded Krisha Mahendran 6-2, 7-6(4) to claim a spot in the final and advance to the NCAA Singles Championship. She moves on to face Washington's third-seeded and 68th-ranked Reece Carter in Sunday's sectional final at a time to be announced.
BERKELEY – California volleyball battled hard but could not build off its energy from its 3-0 victory Friday night as No. 15 North Carolina won in three, 25-9, 25-22, 25-13. The Golden Bears fell to 7-17 (4-10) on the year, while the Tar Heels improved to 18-5 (11-3).
Today is the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marines. Usually on Nov. 10 they have a celebration across the street in front of the Iwo Jima statue but it doesn’t look like anything going on today. I can only guess it’s because of the shutdown. I have a reservation to see the Army jazz band on Wednesday and the Kennedy Center website still has it on but we’ll see.
In other government shutdown news the deer were taking advantage today. My run took me past the zoo in Rock Creek Park which is closed because it gets some government funding. There was a handful of does hanging around in an empty parking lot. On my way back the does were gone but a buck was sniffing around.
Apparently, the eight are not up for immediate reelection, so want to lose so that they can keep campaigning on Affordable Care Act. If they win, they have less to campaign on to get re-elected. I hate this timeline.
As far as I can tell he hasn’t really had involvement in the deal. The transfer of the land to DC was last year under Biden and the agreement to allow/build a stadium is between the DC government and the team. Trump’s involvement has been to threaten to screw things up if they don’t change the name back. I’m not sure what he could do to muddle things up.
The 4th quarter of the Oregon State / Sam Houston game was... a thing
Oregon State had 474 yards of offense and had the ball 17 minutes more. Previously winless Sam Houston State had 157 total offensive yards, before 58 yards of penalties and only 8 first downs. The BearKats QB had former Cal OG McKade Mettauer's younger brother at QB.
Prior to that game ^^^, Sam Houston State and UMass were both winless. Now, UMass is the only remaining winless FBS team this season. UMass also has a scheduling anomaly that I was not aware of until today: during the month of November, none of UMass' games are played on a Saturday. The Minutemen's schedule during November is -
Tue., November 4 - Akron 44, UMass 10 (at Akron)
Wed., November 12 - Northern Illinois at UMass
Tue., November 18 - UMass at Ohio
Tue., November 25 - Bowling Green at UMass
Ohio is currently in 1st place in the MAC. Northern Illinois (11th place) and Bowling Green (12th place) are the two teams just above UMass in the MAC standings. So, there's some hope that UMass can come up with a win this season!
Cal beats #15 Loouhvuhl 29-26 in OT, #18 Miami beats Cuse 38-10, SMU beats BC 45-13, Duke loses to UConn 37-34, UNC Beats Stanfurd 20-15, Clemson beats FSU as the Noles go to 1-5 in the ACC, Wake beats UVA (lol) 16-9
Pretty amazing game on Sat. We sat in our friend's seat because they were at a wedding in Charleston. 3 rows up at the 20 behind the UofL bench. Probably the only Cal fans on our side. Saw one couple in yellow at the 50 about 10 rows up, then the rest were in the Cal section in the opposite corner. Got real quiet when we scored the TD to win it.
Had a couple of drunk people down the row from us and our friends said they could guess who it was. Got one Fuck California as we walked up the aisle during halftime. But then as we walked back under the stadium, one guy apologized for the heckler when we walked up. Got a bunch of welcome to Louisville, hope you enjoy your time here.
It is a nice stadium and I had only been there for a HS football game between the two largest boys Catholic HS. They get 35K+ for that game each year. No 1 went to one of them.
Only Murders in the Building (S5). No drop off in quality. Still one of the best things on TV.

Honore wasn't good. His "longer" punts were with a good roll I think. And he shanked the last one under pressure.
I kept noticing Mini wasn't out there. Wasn't sure if he was hurt or not.
And yet again, Hamper dropped some balls, though he did catch a couple
