I haven’t seen Stranger Things, but apparently it has a character named Eleven. (Though I did have to Google to make sure the character wasn’t named Twelve.)
My boss (marine) is a Trump supporting veteran. I still thanked him.
One of my best friends (army) is a veteran and isn’t a trump supporter. I thanked him for his service. He was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan in the late 00’s.
I have to think a number of them never imagined some of the current chaos is what their efforts and sacrifices were made to secure. Hopefully, we will persevere and make it more worthwhile down the road.
I’ve got good news for her, we will have another presidential election (I hope) in November 2024, trump will be eligible to run again in 2024 and lose again.
been a high of 60 since last Fri and I think is supposed to continue at least until next week. Chance of rain this weekend, though I'm not holding my breath.
We were riding a nice 5-day streak of sunny, 70+ degree days. Of course, that comes to an end just in time for me to have today off. Fortunately, they told us all we could sign off an hour early yesterday, so I was able to enjoy the pleasant weather a bit in the early evening.
I made it out for a run just as it started to rain. It wasn't too bad while I was out and it was still warm. It's only a ten minute walk from my place to the front of Arlington Cemetery. I thought about walking over to somehow protest the President but decided he wasn't worth having to stand in the rain.
Different sources have different numbers per day. WaPo tracker now has today at 140K - a new daily high. Is anyone at the WH even paying attention anymore?
I was browsing around various countries' daily infection numbers yesterday. In comparison to ours, Australia's was particularly depressing. Despite coming out of winter into spring, they're managing under two dozen new cases per day.
I follow a freelance Australian writer named Noelle Faulkner and she's on her way home to Australia after being stuck in the UK SINCE MARCH because the Australian government is so restrictive about letting Australians back in.
New Mexico has packed up and moved to Las Vegas. (UNM-LV ?) Lobos will play in Sam Boyd Stadium, where UNLV used to play prior to the new stadium they share with the Raiders opening. Nevada will have the unique experience of playing in both in 15 days. Yet another unprecedented series of events in 2020.
Can a UC school (Berkeley) relocating to a Cal State campus (Fresno) actually happen? (Berkeley and Fresno campuses haven't exactly had the closest of working relationships historically; I recall a Berkeley campus person make the statement officially just a few years ago in print that Fresno is far western Oklahoma.)
tbh, this is what I thought the entire Pac12 should have done, but it would have demolished the pretense of "student athletes" playing football rather than "semi-professional athletes paid in kind."
FSU did their best to blow the UNC game as well, tho any Mack Brown loss is greeted with glee in the Jimmy C household...including his house fire (in which there were no injuries, of course)
I just walked past Trump campaign HQ on the way to the store. Someone thinks somebody is still working there because there was a lone guy sitting in an SUV across the street with his camera set up under an umbrella pointed at the building entrance.
Trump will no longer be president as of January 20th. His term will be over. It'll either be Joe Biden, Kamala Harris if something happens to Joe between now and then, or if Republicans somehow manage to drag it out in a way I can't exactly imagine right now, then the President will be Nancy Pelosi.
Avignon is lovely. When I was there we saw a homeless couple on the streets with 3 plates in front of them on the sidewalk. One labeled food, another wine, and the last whiskey. Later that night they were seated two tables away from us and we witnessed the woman wave off a waiter as her tried to offer her more bread.
Haven’t been to Avignon but I’m sure it is a much better travel destination than both Sacramento and Ma a Lago.
I suppose if I were setting up my administration and could pick any city to do so, I would probably pick San Diego. I’m biased but I think it would make a great capital for our soon to be new nation of Western United States (Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado) basically it will be made up of lands won in the Mexican American War and land purchased/taken from the old Russian lands of the PNW.
We could form an alliance with the Northeastern United States.
I did something atypical and actually read more information about it. It's required by law to do a statistical confidence check. This is going to enrage everyone who doesn't understand statistics.
But unless Az, Nv, Pa also does a recount it shouldn't matter right? Right? someone convince me! Unless this emboldens the other states to do a recount.
It's looking like the margins will be more than 10k votes in all of these states. Historically recounts don't reverse more than a few hundred votes at most. It seems very unlikely any of these states will be flipped, much less three of them (which is what Trump needs).
Of course this is true, but it's fucking infuriating that Republicans keep on lying about the election, and acting like what Trump is doing now is "normal".
I am not sure what to do with this but maybe the democrats should start saying that election fraud has occurred and it has benefited the GOP.
All the polls showed Biden winning by a much wider margin and the democrats winning control of the senate and expanding their majority in the House. That clearly didn’t happen due to GOP meth mouth MAGA fraud. Lots of dead MAGA people were voting illegally. How else can you explain the number of people voting in these rural counties exceeding the number of people currently living in them?!?!
The GOP cheated to try to err elect Trump and that’s why the election was so close and the polls were so off.
Trying to insure that the military will not call for Trump's removal. They have stated before that they will not get involved in politics. Kind of like the senior Prussian officer corps that let Hitler take power and seize control of the military. Through inaction, they let "the little Corporal" in Churchill's words run amok.
the 'warning shot' of a zero on an assignment / quiz & a letter grade reduction seems eminently reasonable - sort of a "fuck around and find out" standard
Agreed. Never agreed with the focus on process over results to begin with, and challenging circumstances only makes overcoming obstacles more important. This won't be something I worry over.
Ah, I hadn't seen that missing two games disqualifies a team from contenting for the division title. That would be the most Cal thing ever: go 4-0 and miss a chance at winning the conference due to a technicality.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there is still a way we can compete for the title with 4 conference games. If the average games played per team in the Pac-12 is less than 5.5 (so that the average would be rounded down to 5 conference games per team), then we should still be eligible to compete for the North since the rule states that we would be eligible for the tiebreaker if we are within 1 game of that average. In that scenario, a team with 4 conference games would be eligible to compete for the division champion tiebreaker.
For us to get to less than 5.5 conference games per team in the league, we would have to cancel at least 7 games. Assuming ASU-Cal is cancelled, we will be at 3 so far this year.
Right? I thought the most Cal thing ever would be to win the Conference THIS year, and then be sent to the Fiesta Bowl bc the Rose is in the CFP, but then COVID happened and this, which is EVEN MORE the most Cal thing ever as it brings the City of Berkeley and its rather draconian municipal government into the mix as well!!
I actually haven't read that no contests eliminate you from P12 Championship contention either, tho Bonagura mentioned it in one of his tweets. Also, look for the TBD'd 7th game held on Conf. Championship weekend to be against either UW or ASU now...
Because it can take two weeks for the symptoms to develop. Basically, you're at risk of developing COVID for up to two weeks from significant contact with a positive case.
Trust Scootie. It's possible for a patient to have a small amount of virus in their system and test negative--because it's under what's called the limit of detection.
After time (up to two weeks), the virus can replicate and reach levels sufficient to infect or spread.
This is one of the points a lot of binary thinking people don't, can't, or don't want to understand. There are still people, including some with a public voice, that believe you either have it or you don't, and that's as far as they think about it.
Yes. When I flew back from Philly, the urgent care location asked me to wait 1 week before getting tested because anything shorter than that could result in a false negative. I guess 1 week before getting tested is when the percentages get much lower that it will happen but it still could.
And I guess the difference is that mine wasn't contact with a positive case, more a I want to be sure in case someone on the plane actually had it and I got it. I didn't have anyone within 4 rows of me so I was fairly confident I didn't get it.

Columbus Day isn’t a real holiday and shouldn’t be celebrated at all.
true but it helps keep the narrative that my kids are all born on holidays.

I get the day off work, therefore it's a holiday. I think they call it Indigenous People's Day in SF now.

What a bad look for the Conference...I blame Ohio State...
Always a safe bet.
Assuming this holds, we'll miss 2 of our 3 toughest opponents this season. Other than Oregon, the rest of the schedule looks pretty manageable.
But we're immediately eliminated from P12 North contention
Ah, I hadn't seen that missing two games disqualifies a team from contenting for the division title. That would be the most Cal thing ever: go 4-0 and miss a chance at winning the conference due to a technicality.
