Heading out to watch the largest Veterans Day parade west of the Mississippi in a little bit. Will include a lot of HS marching bands, and now that the election is over, relatively few politicians campaigning. Both are developments that will increase the enjoyability over holding it a month ago.
Woke up this morning to no internet. AT&T sucks. Went to the Library. It was closed for Veteran's Day. Went to the YMCA. It had internet, which worked for a bit - but not having a full set-up is not efficient. So I went home... by then, I got busy at work and ran out of time.
met the CEO of USA Cycling, Brendan Quirk, randomly in a ice cream spot in Seattle last night. naturally, we talked about bikes and racing.
we had a successful 2024 Paris Olympics w/ 4 medals.
he said that they are targeting 10 medals in the LA Olympics and that the womens team is super strong and they are really spending a lot of effort on it.
Did anyone watch last night's Lions vs. Texans game?
Jake Bates, Detroits PK, made two FGs in the 4th quarter, one from each hash mark. That's not remarkable, I know. It's the margin with which Bates made *both* FGs. It was so close, you could see the shadow of the ball on an upright as it squeezed by.
This also reminds me of poor Ignacio Brache, who kicked for Cal during the Gilbertson era. Cal played at Nebraska ('92?) early in the season. He doinked two kicks off the right upright, dead on. Both were misses, of course.
It's certainly possible. I definitely think it happened with the game winner because the ball obviously changes trajectory as it passes the left upright.
I cannot recall an NFL game with two FGs that were so close.
Just piss poor leadership all around. AP got the job by riding Zamir White to a solid final month on O with a power running game and solid D, led by Maxx Crosby.
He then inexplicably hired idiot Luke Getsy who changes to a zone-blocking scheme and they fall off a cliff. No QB, yes, but you had a bell cow RB1 in Zamir that you shoulda run the O through.
Not to mention, Getsy’s a complete dope whose rushing #’s were inflated in Chicago entirely bc of Justin Fields’ legs/scrambling.
LeBron James had another triple-double and Austin Reaves scored 22 points in the second half to lead the Lakers to a 123-103 win over the Raptors on Sunday.
Anthony Davis’ MVP-style dominance continued until he exited the game with an injury in the third quarter. He scored 19 points of his 22 points in the first quarter. He also grabbed four rebounds and a steal.
The San Francisco 49ers received the ball to begin the game. They got off to a hot start, but Brock Purdy missed Ricky Pearsall, which led to punting in Tampa Bay’s territory.
The defense felt the loss of Charvarius Ward on the first third down of the game, as Cade Otton beat Isaac Yiadom for a first down. The Buccaneers didn’t have the same success on the ensuing third down. Not many teams do when they target Fred Warner.
For three quarters, the Golden State Warriors trounced the Oklahoma City Thunder. For the final 12 minutes, they held on for dear life, but escaped with a 127-116 win.
Golden State led by as many as 30 points late in the third quarter in Oklahoma City, but the lead shrank to six points before scored eight points and blocked a shot in the final 3:23 to give the Dubs a huge win over a Western Conference power and complete a 4-1 road trip.
HSB texted me "lets hope W's dont blow 28 pt lead" at the end of the 3rd. The beginning of the 4th was ugly. Bad hots, TOs, OKC hitting 3s. In about 3.5 min, OKC dropped the lead to about 10.
BYU wins the Holy War by beating Utah 22-21 by nailing a FG with 3 seconds left after getting the ball back at their own 9 with less than 2 minutes left and 1 TO. Utah sacked BYU at the goal line on 4th-and-10, but was negated by def holding call. . Utah AD Harlan was livid at the officials about their calls during the game, especially the defensive holding call. During the kickoff, Harlan walked onto the field as Utah tried to lateral their way to win the game. Ultimately, the attempt to win failed - but it wouldn't have mattered because Harlan got a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct for walking onto the field during the play as he was screaming at the refs. He then put the Big 12 refs on blast during the media. He has since been fined $40k
FSU's Mike Norvell is not satisfied with defeating the mighty Cal Golden Bears - fires OC/OL coach Alex Atkins, DC Adam Fuller, and WR coach Ron Dugans.
I've actually started calling it the Oski Curse. Winless teams better hope they don't get their win from us, because we could very well be the only win for their season.
DURHAM, N.C. – The California men's soccer team continued its late-season surge and success in the state of North Carolina on Sunday by upsetting second-ranked Duke 2-0 at Koskinen Stadium. The Golden Bears got two first-half goals – a Duke own goal and an Arik Duncan strike – and five saves from Marco Brougher in the victory.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The California women's tennis team posted three singles victories and two doubles wins Sunday as the Thunderbird Invitational came to an end at Arizona State.
Tiziana-Marie Schomburg and Sophie Hernandez defeated Northern Arizona's Leontina Stojanovic and Laura Duhl 6-2 in doubles, while Makenna Thiel and Naomi Xu bested Arizona's Teja Tirunelveli and Jose Usereau 6-4.
MALIBU – With a victory Sunday at the ITA West Sectional Championships, the California men's tennis team produced another qualifier for the singles postseason and now leads the nation with four student-athletes heading to the NCAA Singles Championship. Cal also qualified its second duo for the NCAA Doubles Championship on Sunday, with the Golden Bears tied for the most doubles entrants in the field.
BERKELEY – California volleyball bounced back from Friday night's loss to Georgia Tech in tremendous fashion Saturday, sweeping Clemson 25-21, 25-15, 25-13 at Haas Pavilion to snap a seven-game losing streak and close out the weekend. The Golden Bears are now 11-14 on the year (3-11 ACC), while the Tigers fell to 8-17 (0-14).
Three Cal players – Mikayla Hayden, Peyton DeJardin and Xuemeng (Maggie) Li, recorded 11 kills on the night; for the second match in a row, Hayden did not post a single error, bringing her weekend hitting percentage to .605 with 23 total kills. Li also matched a season-high 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, while Sophia Johnson led both teams with a 14-dig performance – the best of her career in a three-set match and just two shy of her overall collegiate best.
LOS ANGELES – California women's tennis senior Lan Mi became the third Golden Bear to advance to the NCAA Singles Championship when she won a playoff match Saturday at the ITA West Sectional Championships.
The Bears also ended their run at the tournament, held at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium.
BERKELEY – Using another strong defensive effort, the California women's basketball team jumped on San Jose State early and didn't look back in an 82-53 win at the Provident Credit Union Events Center in San Jose on Saturday afternoon. With the Golden Bears (3-0) enjoying a 23-point lead going into halftime, it was the third quarter in which Cal erased any hope of a Spartans (1-1) comeback as it held them to just six points on 18.2% shooting. The Bears caused seven turnovers and allowed just two field goals in the quarter.
Wake Forest was easily the least hostile away game that I've been to. Light home crowd attendance and welcoming Carolinians who don't have an axe to grind with us (yet). That being said, I am not a fan of Winston Salem as a town and the only thing going for it is that it's easy to get to, hotels are walking distance of the stadium, and beers are cheap.
I had some of the worst BBQ I've ever had at Camel City BBQ. Had a few local Red Oak and Foothill drafts and then headed out to Radar Brewing before the game. Talked to Jim Knowlton for a bit, caught up with a bunch of alumni, and bummed a ride off of a guy who was Knowlton's roommate at West Point and had him as his best man in his wedding. I was polite.
At least you were polite! Lol. I just am assuming he gets canned so no reason to be a jerk about it. Bummer about the BBQ though - thought it was supposed to be good in that area!
I can’t really read the news now, except for local news. It’s 90% opinion/think pieces about either the election or what bad shit will come under Trump Part Deux. I tend to think he will be too old, tired, and distracted by personal vendettas to get that much done, but who knows and honestly on a very deep level I don’t really want to spend any more time or energy thinking about Trump’s dumb ass

Sorry about the internet difficulties.

Game winning FG as time expires - https://youtu.be/7JneXxW1m5E?si=iff4QBVWKq8dm7p3
Five picks and they still managed to win.
Three of those were off of tipped balls and a harmless Hail Mary pick.
We were watching this last night. I think the first kissed the upright.
Coe's first of the two 50+ yard FG nicked the inside to go in, this time.
This also reminds me of poor Ignacio Brache, who kicked for Cal during the Gilbertson era. Cal played at Nebraska ('92?) early in the season. He doinked two kicks off the right upright, dead on. Both were misses, of course.

Sharks beat the Devils 1-0.
It's a bye week and the Raiders still don't have a QB.
Do the Raiders have a front office? How about a stable coaching staff? 2-15 is not out of the realm of probability.
They hired interim HC Antonio Pierce that got them to play hard at the end of last season I think. Of course now the players want him gone.
Just piss poor leadership all around. AP got the job by riding Zamir White to a solid final month on O with a power running game and solid D, led by Maxx Crosby.

Not to mention, Getsy’s a complete dope whose rushing #’s were inflated in Chicago entirely bc of Justin Fields’ legs/scrambling.
One big problem is they don't have a QB. Tanking to get a high draft pick? Don't want Shedeur Sanders.
