poolside baby jeezus, I do not care for the decorating in that place.

poolside baby Jesus is certainly a look

Looks like something Melania would decorate.

Michigan St at Maryland cancelled due to Covid issues at Maryland. We are up to 15 ppd/cx games this week, matching last week's record number, and today and tomorrow are the big days for testing, still to come.

DC Trojan's avatar

Things are getting messy here in the old line state

AndyPanda's avatar

CEO Approved it.

The following criteria be met in order for a non-conference football opponent to be scheduled by a Pac-12 football team:

All Pac-12 testing and related protocols must be adhered to by the non-conference opponent;

The non-conference game will in all cases be a home game for the Pac-12 team, broadcast by a Pac-12 television partner; and

If a Pac-12 opponent becomes available by the end of day Thursday in any given week, the Conference game must be played in lieu of any non-conference game.

Smithsonian had opened the zoo and a handful of museums with restrictions. I went to one and was pretty much by myself in the corridors and galleries the whole time. The surge in the virus has them closing again after this weekend.

DC Trojan's avatar

the Museum of Natural History is ordinarily an absolute mob scene the day after Thanksgiving, so perhaps it's for the best.

dcblue's avatar

That was a key one that had not re-opened. But you're right, I would not have even thought about going to any of them the day after Thanksgiving. When I did go I was totally prepared to walk away if it was at all crowded.

DC Trojan's avatar

goes to show you how much attention i've been paying to local openings and closings 😬

Being in San Diego and the weather is still nice we were planning to do an outside thanksgiving at my parents house.

My family (4)

My parents (2)

My sisters family (2)

My brother (1)

Total 9

My sister and her daughter live with my parents so that is one household unit.

My dad is going to set up some canopies in the yard. Trying to eat by 3 and be gone by 4.

With that said, my wife and I are starting to think we should cancel.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I'll be in town as well and will bring cake pops - we can mix and match, ya? See you at 3 ;-)

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

there was something a few days ago saying that 40% of Americans will be at a gathering of over 10 people during Thxgiving.

i suppose that is alarming and expected all at once. we are having just my sister-in-law's family over and that is 9 people right there.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

that being said, we are on the verge of canceling as positivity rates trend upwards. (that is the metric that my wife is most concerned about given her medical background)

heyalumnigo's avatar

We'll have No 2 and 3. But No 2 flies in on Fri. He does get tested right before leaving but he'll be on a southwest plane. It is direct Nashville to Oak so I'm hoping that it will be kind of empty. Going to have him mainly stay in his room, which he doesn't have a problem doing, for at least 4 days. Going to see if he can get a test on Tues or Wed.

goldenone's avatar

We're just meeting in a small group of 5 people. Not a big family gathering. We're not even going to cook a Turkey but picking up one roasted by Poulet on Shattuck Avenue, can pre-order and pick it up next Wednesday the 25th.

No travel here. Getting together with my best friend and her immediate family, who are my pod, 7 of us total. My family is not my pod, so they are out. And I was quoted in an SF Chronicle article today about the conflict of to gather or not to gather!

heyalumnigo's avatar

How did they find you? Just asking people walking around?

DC Trojan's avatar

look at you with the mature reality-based answer!

Cugel's avatar

We're not traveling, but my son & his wife will be over, as they are almost every Sunday, socially distancing on our 8 foot dinner table.

rocksanddirt's avatar

We are not going anywhere. The closest we are coming is zooming with family.

clapdoc's avatar

All we are doing is my wife and I, with my brother visiting.

TheScientist019's avatar

I would rather just skip the family celebration this year, but my parents want me to visit, which would be driving there and staying masked/outside while they are indoors/physically distant.

DC Trojan's avatar

well this will be fun! (not really)

AndyPanda's avatar

We are going to try to have fun anyway. It will just be 4 of us, 2 from our house at my daughter & son in laws house ~1 mile away. (Well, actually 6, the current state max, if you count the 2 cats. Unless 1 of them goes outside because its gotten too warm and noisy.)

DC Trojan's avatar

That seems eminently reasonable

clapdoc's avatar

I used to dabble in the profession, but my career came to a screeching halt when some of my friends perished in a gas station fire.

Cugel's avatar

I used to draw them in Life drawing class, the models often asked if they could have one of my drawings. TBH, I always drew them somewhat more attractive than they were.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Nice...I've been thinking of having a self-portrait done...sounds like I found my artist, next time I'm in the Bay Area ;-)

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

My ex-wife did some when we lived in Phoenix. She was way into that art-world thing (First Friday Art-Walks, artists buddies, galleries, etc). Meh.

goldenone's avatar

My ex-wife during her Cal days modeled for Stella Artois

goldenone's avatar

Also I did some modeling for the Grimme Agency in SF, my ex talked me into it. I was 20 at the time.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

GoldenSD81's avatar

2 TD plus the extra points? Or were they missed? Two TDs plus two point conversions? Or were they failed attempts?

I don't understand what Cano was thinking. He has already been caught once for a masking agent before and he was caught for the steroid stanozolol this time. The guy has already made enough money that I would have thought that he would be cheating in some new cutting edge way.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30349208/source-golden-state-warriors-klay-thompson-suffers-season-ending-achilles-tear

Golden State Warriors star guard Klay Thompson has suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear, a source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Thompson suffered a right leg injury during a workout Wednesday in Southern California, the team announced. He underwent an MRI on Thursday morning.

Based on the type of tear, Thompson has been told to expect that he will make a full recovery, a source tells ESPN.

AndyPanda's avatar

I'm glad the prognosis is for a full recovery. I was worried for him when this first began to come out.

sycasey's avatar

Yes, though sadly this is another year taken away from his prime.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

ouch. i was just getting semi-optimistic about the Warriors again.

wholey shit! This is the sort of thing that needs some corporal punishment, as well as, incarceration for a long ass time.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

this has been talked about for a while. as a physics major i obviously spent a lot of time in LeConte. but there were a lot of random classes in a couple of those medium sized lecture rooms.

our homework was often due in little mailbox slots right as you entered. we used to sit right in front of them and finish last minute assignments right up until the TA came to collect them.

Ruey Yen's avatar

Temporary names are Physics North and Physics South for Old and New LeConte and Social Sciences Building for Barrows.

Between classes, working in a lab in the basement, and homework at the reading room, I clocked by far the most hours in LeConte during my time at Cal (Evans Hall is second and maybe Haas Pavilion is 3rd?). Despite that, I had no real attachment to that name (much less than an attachment to my freshman dorm building - Unit 1 Deutsch!).

Scootie's avatar

Barrows was my home hall, and I'm only disappointed with this because my plan upon winning Powerball has always been to be the lead donor on a Barrows replacement. Sadly, Cal will now be deprived of Scootie Hall.

sycasey's avatar

As I recall, Kroeber was also one potentially on the chopping block but looks like his name has been preserved (I believe anthropology professors objected to the characterizations of Kroeber's life and work).

Fire Starkey's avatar

at least we all know what to get Leland for Christmas. Either a lump of coal or a sign to wear around his neck that says "THAT GUY". Also, a bit of advice for you, Leland... if your doorbell rings and you open the door and a paper back is on fire at your doorstep, it is ABSOLUTELY ok to stamp on it to put that fire out

SGBear's avatar

Eh, it's fair. I was exposed to stick-figures with nipples and stylized bushes as a kid and it's been all downhill since then. Someone has got to protect the kids of today.

Leland's avatar

Good to see the front-page idiocy and obsession with cheerleader pictures spread to you guys too.

TheBuckeyeBear's avatar

I missed whatever the photo was, but I'm onboard with keeping W4C branding away from the objectification of women and/or George Bush.

Cugel's avatar

How can you know if the image objectified women if you didn't see it?

rocksanddirt's avatar

I'm ok with limiting all manner of objectification on W4C. Make people earn those clicks. or something.

Also, just say no to George Bush.
