I, personally, like BobR and if he rattles a bit too much, it’s super easy to scroll past any of his posts or links that may seem bossy, unsolicited, or repetitive.
Here’s some fun facts I have learned about Bob R:
1. Was on Cal cheer squad a few years before my time (1980).
2. Is passionate about and generous towards Cal.
3. Is or was an attorney.
Honestly, I don’t see why some folks, here, get out of shape about his posts- even the “off-topic” ones. I scroll on, Bears.
So I saw the conversation the other day. It was a warning, but it got a little out of control with the emergence of Bear19. But did Bob post anything after that which caused a ban? If so, I wonder what he posted.
I'm pretty certain BobR did post another link without context.
I don't think I need to post here why links *without* context are prohibited by the guidelines. However, I don't think BobR understands the reason or the basis for that guideline. And he earned a (temporary?) ban because he became obstinate, clearly.
Websites have administrators for a reason, and those administrators can suspend or ban bad actors to maintain community standards and/or prevent undermining of the website.
Personally, I wondered why a suspension hadn't already taken place when I saw the thread.
And it's not just the links. We wouldn't be so annoyed by the links if he hadn't been commenting the way he did for all these years, although SI link postings got really bad in itself.
He has been posting SI links into various WFC posts without any context. For example, SI game summary links in the WFC game summary link. SI links is his new wiki link. He was then told that he should add in a description of how the link contributed to the conversation. But I think he felt like he didn't need to do that. Perhaps there was other out of band discussion with him and mods.

One of the formative events of my wife's childhood was getting stranded in Elyria OH after the family car caught fire on the Ohio turnpike. I wouldn't say she's hostile to the state of Ohio but she views it with some suspicion.
Three-time Pro Bowl LB Shaq Leonard was injured. He recovered and starting playing, but was underwhelming - so the Colts reduced his playing time. Leonard complained, so they benched him. He asked for a meeting with management. He got cut instead.
The Baseball Hall of Fame is a joke, but still: how in the world could Adrian Beltre possibly be a unanimous pick? Not a dig at him, but plenty of better players were not unanimous….
without getting into steroids era debate, it seems that any "hall of fame" type thing that is based on votes and perception will always be that way, driven by votes and perception.
we somehow agreed that the votes and perception of previous eras was ok. some things were overlooked and others not. why should this era be any different?
it is clearly something of a lifetime achievement award which people think that Bonds and Clemens dont deserve, even if their statistics show otherwise.
Honestly, the perception of previous eras was not always okay either.
Though historically, the lion's share of mistakes have come from the Veterans Committee (or its various previous incarnations) rather than the baseball writers' vote. Steroid era aside.
Jared Goff rallied from three interceptions to help Detroit score the game's final 17 points and lead the Lions to a 31-26 comeback victory over Chicago to highlight performances by former Cal football players in Week 11 NFL action. The Lions improved to 8-2 and are currently the NFC's No. 2 playoff seed while holding a two-and-a-half game lead in the NFC North.
Keenan Allen had another big game in Week 11 with 10 receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. Allen is the NFL's leader in receptions through 11 weeks with 83 and is second with 1,011 yards receiving. Allen had double-digit receptions and was over 100 yards receiving for the second straight game for both.
California men's soccer players Wyatt Meyer and Santiago Hopkins were named to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division I Academic All-District Team, CSC announced Tuesday. Meyer – who earned all-district honors for the second straight year – was also placed on the ballot for the CSC Academic All-America Team, with voting beginning Tuesday and ending Dec 5.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – The California men's basketball team will look to rebound from a last-second loss to UTEP on Monday when it faces Tulane in the SoCal Challenge consolation game on Wednesday night at The Pavilion on JSerra High School's campus. Cal (2-3) will gear up for another late night of action, with tipoff slated for 9:30 p.m. PST on CBS Sports Network.
BERKELEY – The California football team heads south to Pasadena for the regular-season finale and a 7:30 p.m. PST kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 25, at UCLA. The Golden Bears (5-6, 3-5 Pac-12) and Bruins (7-4, 4-4) will meet for the 94th time in history.
Hey if you’re coming to the game - Cal sections are 25-27. You can hop on the UCLA website and get $25 general admission tickets. Nick, Nam and a few others will be there
Yeah a friend of ours has donor box tickets since her son has a baseball tournament in Az. So hubby and son are going there and we're taking their place.
On this day in 1952 in Memorial Stadium the Golden Bears defeated Stanfurd, 26-0 before 83,231 spectators. Ray Willsey, later California’s head coach (1964-1971), quarterbacked the Bears that day, filling in for the injured Billy Mais. Willsey threw one touchdown pass of 38 yards, scored on a one-yard run and set up a third score with a 55-yard scramble. Lloyd Torchio returned an interception 37 yards for another Cal TD (his son J would quarterback the Bears to a Big Game victory exactly 28 years later, to the day). Bear running back John Olszewksi ran for 122 yards on 25 carries which gave him 2,504 for his career, a conference record. The game also made TV broadcast history. A power outage at the start of the second half blacked out KRON-TV’s telecast for six minutes so the station cut to the U$C-UCLA game for a few minutes. This marked the first time in the U.S. that parts of two different games had been shown on the same day in the same area. The victory gave California seven wins against three losses and dropped the Lobsterbacks to 5-5. But it was an end of an era being the last of six winning seasons at Cal for head coach Pappy Waldorf. Pappy’s Boys would finish at .500 the next two seasons and have losing records in his last two years as coach. From 1953 through 1967 the Golden Bears would only have one winning season (1958).

What are your thoughts on the banning of the infamous BobR?

So I saw the conversation the other day. It was a warning, but it got a little out of control with the emergence of Bear19. But did Bob post anything after that which caused a ban? If so, I wonder what he posted.
I think Bear19 is a burner account or a sock puppet.
I think he posted another link but I wouldn't swear to it.
I'm pretty certain BobR did post another link without context.

I thought he kinda said okay to adding some context to the links, so I wondered if he at least tried after that, or if he just posted a link again.
Anyway he completely lacked internet literacy and there was a disconnect between him and the rest of the readers.
I'm guessing maybe there was an offline discussion.
Yeah could have been.
There was also the free speech discussion with Bear19 where apparently he doesn't feel one needs to adhere to community guidelines.
I see. Well I don't miss him.
Without him there'll be less clutter in a lot of threads.
I'm curious to see if he changes after the temporary banning. He did stop using wiki links, so will he stop using si links or at least add context.
Or makes another handle and starts posting again. It will be too obvious if he did lol
I dub him Sir Linksalot

Liar. Not possible for a pleasant stay in Ohio.
i hear that the ice cream is good and one of the best espressos i have ever had is in Columbus too.
But their zoo...oof...2nd best in the country. I will have to say their ice cream is good.
Behind Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, right?
San Diego in your list would thus be #3.
was that a dig at BuckeyeBear?

I shouldn't laugh about this (because most of it is awful), but the group that wanted to kidnap the governor of Xichigan did their plotting in Ohio.
depending on how long you are stuck, someone told me that Dosa & Chaat is very good food (nearby)
Not dosa for me. Car is fine and I'm back on the road to join the rest of the Turkeyday commuters.

Forced explosion or due to an accident?
We're driving down to LA on Fri and then back up 101 on Sun. Dropping No 3 off at UCSC on the way back. @Totally looking forward to the drive@

no complaints about Beltre .. but i 'd be happy enough of Mariano was still the only unanimous pick
The Baseball Hall of Fame is a joke, but still: how in the world could Adrian Beltre possibly be a unanimous pick? Not a dig at him, but plenty of better players were not unanimous….
I don't think he'll be unanimous. My WAG is 97.6% (380 of 389)
He deserves to be in, but unanimous would be a hell of a thing.
That said, the whole thing is a joke as long as Bonds and Clemens are kept out.

For me, both the Hall of Fame and the BBWAA lost any shred of legitimacy when steroid user David Ortiz got in on his first ballot. It’s a sham.

I stayed next to UCDC. I had no idea it existed
DC is officially Bear Territory
I held a meeting in UCDC earlier this year!
Sounds like Cal in the Capital (summer internship in DC), but UCDC runs during the academic year.
If I am reading their website correctly, it's a 6 month program to do an internship in DC while also taking an elective.
