I got my covid bivalent booster yesterday and so far only a very minimal soreness at the injection site as a reaction. I've also got a bit of a runny nose but I think that's more from sleeping with a window open last night even though it got down near freezing or from getting too sweaty in the cold on my run this morning.
I was slow to get it but Arlington County is closing its covid clinic the middle of December so I went and got it done. There are plenty of places to get it but the county has done a good job so I wanted to stick with them.
I had the beginning of a cold the day I got my booster (8pm).
so I felt poorly for several days, but it was runny nose/sore throat stuff. beyond slight shoulder soreness for a day and some sleepiness, the bivalent shot was a non-issue,
I'd have to say the same, and I had pretty minimal effects from the earlier Covid shots as well. Overall, they seem to be getting things right with this series.
No 2 and I got ours on Monday afternoon. I didn't feel much that night. Woke up around 4 and my back was aching and it was hard to get comfortable. Throughout Tues, felt some body aches like a small cold. No 2 woke up middle of the night and had the chills and achy back. Woke up in the morning feeling like a bad cold. Took ibuprofen and felt better as the day went on.
All the apple crumb variations from the Julian Pie company have become Chitwood Family favorites and one usually comes back to Santa Barbara with me for dinner partys following visits to SD, where they are available at your local Vons.
Incidentally, when I was in Julian last, I tried Mom’s Pies…also awesome.
Yes, Moms is just as good and less crowded. That’s usually what I get when I’m in Julian since it is less crowded and you can’t get their pies outside of Julian.
There's a local bread bakery here making a holiday sourdough loaf with Grand Marnier, orange zest and cranberries. I keep thinking it might make a really delicious bread pudding.
Love that Chinese sticky rice stuffing. My family always made a Cantonese version. Rachael Ray had a guest recently with a good recipe. Girl Meets Farm had more Mandarin version.
My mom used to stuff the turkey when we were little. Recently she did it with a deboned roasted duck. MMM..so good. I just make it on a pan since I don't really like turkey anymore.
I don't know if mine is Cantonese or Mandarin version, though I speak some Mandarin. I just use chinese sausage, shitake, and green onions with the medium or short grain sticky rice. My mom used to also add in chestnuts.
My mom also used to put it in the turkey, but in later years got worried about salmonella. The difference I noticed is that my family includes oyster sauce. It’s good either way, but I like the flavor I grew up with.
Five years ago when a friend was deep frying a turkey, I decided to buy some Cornish hens and a spiral ham to deep fry.
The ham was delicious. It took about 20 minutes and the outside edges of the spiral were basically crispy fried like bacon and the inside, because of the spiral cut were perfectly juicy.
I set alarm at 5am, woke up, but was still sleepy and figured we would lose badly so I went straight back to bed. Just woke up and so shocked that I did not watch it. Have to go look for highlights video.
Don't know if anyone will be still checking in but Alaska announces its final ranked choice results. Sen. Murkowski defeats the Trump endorsed Republican challenger. Peltola beats Sarah Palin by ten percent in the last round for the House. About the best that could be hoped for.
What will Joe Biden do next? I would not mind Gavin Newsom running (though he's been quoted as saying he is not interested in being commander in chief)
Biden's generation is ceding the stage as he plots his next act
I'd like him to run again, I wouldn't mind if he switched running mates. As for the next generation, I am intrigued by Gretchen Whitmer and think she's someone to keep an eye on.

I think Gavin would make an excellent president but I'm not sure he's electable. I would love to see him take Feinstein's senate seat though. I think he'd be an extremely effective and influential senator.
I think he runs and wins. Probably a 40% chance he doesn’t finish his term, that’s why I’m more concerned on who the running mate it. Probably 90% chance it is Harris again but I prefer someone else over her.
Biden shouldn't run for re-election. As for my choice to take his place: For some reason Oski is ineligible to run. I like Mayor Pete, Lizzy Warren, wouldn't mind if Gavin changed his mind.
DeBoer has been successful at multiple previous stops, and usually quickly. I think this is a good move for the Huskies, and it could be bad news for the Pac-x. The Huskies with the right coach has proven to be a purple terror more than once before.
Bringing along a future NFL QB that already knows the system makes said impressive turnaround a helluva lot easier. Transfer portal will speed up the transition for good teams.
It will be telling to see if Jack Plummer participates in Senior Day festivities.
A fresh start with the new OC and a QB to be named later is in the best interest of the program. Ideally, the new OC brings a QB with him, like Wazzu/USC/UW all did…U of A and the Ducks also had success…
Any idea why the Bruin-Bear brawl took so long to get started? All the other numerous and entertaining Pac-x team rivalries (which is a big piece of what makes the Pac so much fun) seem to go way further back.
They were playing in the PCC starting in 1928, though they didn't beat a current member until '33 (prior conference wins were all over Montana and Idaho).
And I admit I didn't realize they didn't exist until the spring of 1929, until a quick Google search.

Eek, I still haven't gotten that. Yet.
I was slow to get it but Arlington County is closing its covid clinic the middle of December so I went and got it done. There are plenty of places to get it but the county has done a good job so I wanted to stick with them.
I had less reaction to that booster than to the others.

I am in West Virginia and it is exactly what I expected. Coal. Trump flags. Poverty. Mountaineers logos. Dollar Generals.
Throw October Sky on the telly and feel good for the rest of the day….
West Virginia is such a weird and interesting state.
they're wet and wild!
Hmmm...is it only paid subscribers who can post???
Nope. Reckon it's just a slow day around here what with it being Thanksgiving Eve.
We need more Scootie posts. Those always drive ratings up!
gotta know what on a list of choices goes in the trash
One thing I know for sure is anything with cilantro.
What?! I love cilantro but I understand for some people it taste like soap.
the divisive herb! I loves me some cilantro. I'll eat the garnish on its own when it comes with thai curries, etc.
Come sit next to me you can have all of mine.
Rank 'em, Thanksgiving desserts: pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie, sweet potato pie, other
Cappuccino It’s-It, pecan, apple, pumpkin, sweet potato.
Apple and other (berry) don't like any of the others.
Pumpkin, Apple, Other. Pecan and sweet potato go in the trash.
Apple, sweet potato, pumpkin, other, pecan.
Pecan, pumpkin, apple, other, sweet potato pie
Not pumpkin, I'll just have to see what my daughter will be making (don't know yet).
But I will have a great Armagnac to go with dessert. Last of the '64 (wish I had the '73)
Is this something that makes me "interesting"?
No.
Got one of the 3 left in Hollywood, but it won't be here for Thanksgiving.
none of them.
Wrong. ALL of them! (And more.) In a tie for first, with the only tie-breaker being which ones are available at the dinner table this year!
I eat pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving and until that supply runs out. Pretty much the only time the missus makes it.
Dutch apple for the win.

Other (bread pudding); pumpkin pie; apple pie; sweet potato pie; pecan pie
There's a local bread bakery here making a holiday sourdough loaf with Grand Marnier, orange zest and cranberries. I keep thinking it might make a really delicious bread pudding.
Sounds like it might be great just sliced, with a little butter.
Pumpkin ala mode followed by pecan.
Good candidates!
Rank 'em, Thanksgiving sides: stuffing (in-bird), stuffing (not in-bird), mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole
Dressing (stuffing not in bird), stuffing in bird, green beans, mashed potatoes. Sweet potatoes in the trash.
Candied yams instead of sweet potatoes (not as mushy), stuffing non in bird & mashed potatoes (both with gravy!) tied for 2nd.
Of this list - mashed potatoes, green beans - not what I call in "casserole" mode.
Chinese stuffing. Mashed potates next.
Love that Chinese sticky rice stuffing. My family always made a Cantonese version. Rachael Ray had a guest recently with a good recipe. Girl Meets Farm had more Mandarin version.

Green bean casserole; stuffing (both bird and non bird); mashed potatoes; sweet potatoes.
Stuffing in; mashed potatoes; stuffing not in; green bean casserole; sweet potatoes
Stuffing in, mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, wife's sweet potato casserole.
Rank 'em, Thanksgiving meats: roasted turkey, smoked turkey, fried turkey, spiral ham, turducken, other
Never tried turducken but I'm game to try it!
Spiral ham. Other.
A spiral ham deep fried is excellent.
Tell me more about this please!
Like saving that one for Xmas.
REALLY hard to separate a good roasted turkey and a good smoked one. Pro tip: Try both!
Ham
We haven't had turkey or ham for Thanksgiving since probably 2006? Kids used to ask for Chinese food for Thanksgiving.
This year my sister and her family are here and I'm making pizza.
Similarly I am skipping the traditional Thanksgiving meal this year. On Friday am going to a brew pub for ale and fish and chips with some buds.
Popeyes turkey, roasted turkey, fried spiral ham, spiral ham, fried turkey, smoked turkey, turducken
Roasted turkey; spiral ham. Never tried any of the others.
It's only me and one other so instead of turkey or ham I'm making a couple Cornish game hens.
I'm a pescatarian 364 days a year but eat turkey on the fourth Thursday of November. Preference is for roasted.
World Cup
That second Japan goal was bonkers, well played by them for the win against Germany.
Absolutely stunned that Japan came back to win that.
I set alarm at 5am, woke up, but was still sleepy and figured we would lose badly so I went straight back to bed. Just woke up and so shocked that I did not watch it. Have to go look for highlights video.
Cancel it. I refuse to watch it.

is that supposed to be an incentive?
Better than recycled beer.
Right, this seems like punishment.
2nd place gets twice the amount of unused beer.

Surprised that in this crowd no one wanted to brag about themselves!
I guess that is why we are all friends
or it's taking too much time to whittle down the list, so that we don't get carpal tunnel with all the typing.

This is exactly how I feel about the whole situation.
Unfortunately, I don’t think he will be able to dump Harris.
He'll run again and probably win again.
I don't see Newsom being able to win nationwide.
I think he runs and wins. Probably a 40% chance he doesn’t finish his term, that’s why I’m more concerned on who the running mate it. Probably 90% chance it is Harris again but I prefer someone else over her.
I have serious doubts Biden wins again with Kamala as his running mate.
I tend to agree, though I'm nervous about the win, given all that could happen in the next 24 months.
I do agree, at least for the foreseeable future, I'm skeptical that Newsom could win a national race, regardless of capability to do the job.
Biden should run again.
Biden shouldn't run for re-election. As for my choice to take his place: For some reason Oski is ineligible to run. I like Mayor Pete, Lizzy Warren, wouldn't mind if Gavin changed his mind.
Perhaps the world's leading (and perhaps only?) Oski Disciple?
Let’s toast Oski Disciple! Oski WaWa! Whiskey Wee Wee!
Honored.

There is a new troll-like poster on the front page. One is enough.
Anyone going to the game Friday? Or are peeps out of town?
I'm going with Nos 2 and 3 (and his friend) thanks to GO and his lady friend for their tickets.
It will be telling to see if Jack Plummer participates in Senior Day festivities.

Cal football fun fact sponsored by The Black Panther Party.
The first meeting between the Bears and UCLA was not until 1933 when the the schools tied, 0-0. Cal won fourteen of their next twenty encounters.
The final edition of Cal football trivia fun fact of the season will appear here next Tuesday. Happy Thanksgiving and Go Bears!
Sorry I had a fight in the middle of your Black Panther party….

Uh, they didn't really exist until 1920 - and no football until 1930's
They were playing in the PCC starting in 1928, though they didn't beat a current member until '33 (prior conference wins were all over Montana and Idaho).
