Remember that December 20-23 is party time at the DBD with celebrations planned for Hanukah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice and Christmas. Drink responsibly.
Speaking of drinking, the DBD Bar and Grille is serving pumpkin spice brandy and egg nog at happy hour prices all day through the holidays.
DBD’s sumo wrestling team is in action at home tonight at 7:00. Come cheer the lads and lasses on.
Monday’s tango class will be moved from it’s usual 1:00 start to 2:00, Juanita apologizes for any inconvenience.
Don’t forget that next Friday is the deadline to submit items for the monthly DBD executive board meeting. See LSDBear in room 203 or shoot her an email.
Expectations were fairly low as the Golden State Warriors hosted the Houston Rockets on Thursday night. The Rockets, who entered the night in second place in the Western Conference standings, have been rolling lately. The Warriors, on the other hand, had lost five consecutive games ... and of greater concern, were without their two Hall of Famers, Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

the Detroit Goffs are looking good. their offense got going late in the game. however the defense remains porous. i appreciate they have had a lot of injuries.
it seems that the only way they win a close game is if they have the ball last.
"it seems that the only way they win a close game is if they have the ball last."
That was my thought when Detroit was faced with 4th and inches with less than a minute remaining. Mrs Slug said she thought Detroit would kick a FG then. "What are you waiting for?" I said 4th and inches is Dan Campbell's signature moment. The Lions like to convert 4th downs to 1st downs. I expect them to do it here, too. They did and they were able to run out the clock.
Nevertheless, I had a nagging thought that this is where disaster is most likely to occur. It didn't and the Lions won.
The football gods are saving striking down the Lions for reckless 4th down playcalling for the playoffs, when the consequences will be far more painful.
But I would point out that Detroit has converted 15 4th downs to 1st downs out of 22 attempts, a 68.2% conversion rate. That suggests they don't push their luck, especially given that they've only suffered one loss so far in the regular season.
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 4 California men's swimming & diving team took a commanding lead on day two of the Minnesota Invitational after the Golden Bears placed first in four events.
In the first event of the evening session, five Bears finished in the top eight of the 500-yard freestyle. Gabriel Jett placed first in a time of 4:16.63, a season-best, as he secured an NCAA B-cut time. Keaton Jones followed behind with a time of 4:16.76, while Tyler Kopp and Thackston McMullan finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Jones, Kopp and McMullan recorded an NCAA qualifying B-cut time, joining Matthew Chai, who recorded a B-cut time of 4:20.64 in the morning session.
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 9 California women's swimming & diving team rocketed through the pool at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center on Thursday, winning every event while recording NCAA qualifying and national top-10 times in the process on the second day of the Minnesota Invitational.
The California men's rowing program will join the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) starting this year, as announced by the conference Thursday. Men's rowing will become the conference's 15th sport.
The Golden Bears will have familiar opponents as they join Oregon State, Stanford and Washington along with Gonzaga and Santa Clara, who will all embark on their first year in the conference along with UC San Diego.
BERKELEY – The California Baseball team will begin its first season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2025 by hosting five ACC opponents – Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State and Virginia – at Stu Gordon Stadium with all other than Boston College making their first trips to Berkeley. Three of the five – Florida State, NC State and Virginia – were participants in the 2024 College World Series with Florida State reaching the semifinals.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) Kayla Williams scored 21 points and California handed No. 19 Alabama its first loss 69-65 in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Thursday night.
Ionna Krimili, who had 19 points, made three free throws in the last half minute to seal the win for the Bears (8-1), who never led by more than six, that coming when Krimili made two free throws with 26.6 seconds to play.
Quite frankly, I don't understand these articles expressing shock at the reaction, the schadenfreude, from large segments of the public in the wake of Brian Thompson's murder.
Did people think that the anger would be displaced towards the foes of universal (single payer) healthcare, such as US Representatives, US Senators, cabinet members, presidents? Surely, you (in the collective sense) jest.
The pain that people feel is directly tied to the health insurance companies and United Heathcare and every other healthcare insurer has a BIG target on its back, one which they put there themselves.

That would either be the best or worst place to be a position coach. He's going to know in a nanosecond if you're good or not. I've heard that an hour with him is like a PhD in football, but is one of the most stressful experiences as a coach.

Maybe we should do some sort of secret Santa. I would say small Cal tchotchkes but that would probably be hard for those outside of the area.
