HeyStudentsBears's avatar

we are looking at early Apr tix from NYC <> SEA during HS spring break.

kinda high at $550 RT but the Google flight price tracker implies it is "average"

DC Trojan's avatar

I was looking at airfare to PDX for February and it was the first time I've seen the DCA - PDX flight on Alaska below $500 in over a year

Oski Disciple's avatar

Recently bought tickets for Paris in the Spring. Premium economy. Not cheap but not so much more than our last trip in 2019 either.

Cugel's avatar

Going to Chicago for ND game was pricey, much more than it was pre-Covid.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

looking into ticket to Argentina/Buenos Aires in Feb 2023.

sort of a pain to book on Aerolineas using Delta ticketing.

my wife and i are considering a 1 week trip to Patagonia.

- 4-5 days near El Calafate

- a couple days in BA.

any thoughts or suggestions?

SGBear's avatar

I've been to Buenos Aires, but it was a while ago and I didn't have that many days there. I would say that BA is more of a vibe-city than a place with stunning things that you must see. Hang out downtown and see the facades of Teatro Colon next to the world's widest avenue (Ave 9 de Julio). Visit the cemetery in Recolata to say hi to Evita and then stroll around the Recoleta district and it's European architecture. You'll mutter to yourself "do Argentinians even work?" as nothing will be open in the morning and shops will close for siesta in the afternoon and have spotty hours in the evening. Plan to shift your meals because dinner is REALLY late. You'll struggle to find a restaurant that opens before 9 pm and you'll be the only person there before 10 pm. Dinner is typically 11 pm.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

sounds a little like Madrid .. where we walked around and soaked up the vibe.

seems like a good little add-on to break up the travel a little and get a flavor for the country aside from the country side.

goldenone's avatar

I've had good luck with cheapoair over the years on international flights, including flying between non-U.S. countries, not sure it's cheaper than anyone else anymore.

thie was not great, but at least the dino-bots showed up. too bad they didnt talk. that was one of the best parts.

GoldenSD81's avatar

The Bumblebee movie was very good. The preview for the newest Transformer movie also looks promising. What do these things have in common? No Michael Bay.

sycasey's avatar

Bumblebee was decent, yes. That one seems a bit outside of the original continuity though.

DIO: Dreamers Never Die

Documentary on the legendary voice of Metal, Ronnie James Dio. This was absolutely amazing look at the man, the myth, the legend over his decades long career, from 5yo trumpet player to his final tour with Heaven and Hell nee Black Sabbath, a tour I went to which was billed as the Metal Masters Tour, featuring Heaven and Hell, Judas Priest, and Motörhead. Dio, Halford, and Lemmy all on the same stage on the same night. . 23/19 WB over and over again.

SCOTUS will rule on Independent State Legislatory theory. If it goes along partisan lines, state legislators can override what's written in the state constitution. This would be a radical change and could end in states overriding votes, like what John Eastman tried to do.

It's bullshit, but we'll see if SCOTUS likes law or the Republic party more.

just wait will next set of elections. i think that "qualified" has a whole new new meaning (or no meaning) these days.

some people will say Trump is unqualified and he will come pretty close to winning as well.

Judge to Yankees for the numbers the Giants offered. Used San Francisco as leverage. Guy’s a Yankees icon…he was never leaving NY.

Elite players really don’t want to play for Farhan and Kapler, whose iPad tells them to pinch hit for their #3 hitter in the bottom of the 5th of a 1-run game because he bats left handed. Such a silly style of baseball.

g.oso's avatar

But it was fun to watch all this giants fans talk that shit when they thought Judge was coming to sf. Now I will drink their tears.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Well, as a Giants fan that never believed he was ever coming in the first place, you'll get nothing from me but my scorn!!!!

;-)

Oski Disciple's avatar

My sentiments exactly.

sycasey's avatar

Yup, same. My default assumption is that no one leaves the Yankees unless the Yankees want them to leave. They did not want Judge to leave.

O.Overall's avatar

He had an amazing year but for SF I think that contract is too rich for a guy in his 30s

O.Overall's avatar

He will be an albatross on the back half of it, particularly with his injury history

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Maybe, but the Giants needed Judge for more than just stats…he was the new face of the team, a marketing gift to revitalize the fan base, drum up interest that is waning for a moribund franchise…the jersey sales alone would offset the contract.

But agreed, a 6’7” mammoth beast with a history of oblique and foot injuries probably will not be playing at a $40M per year level in his late-30’s…he’s missed a decent number of games in 3 of 5 seasons.

Penn State's mascot is the Nittany Lion. The original is not completely known, but popular stories are that Nittany means "lone mountain" in a local native language. And the campus has Mount Nittany near it. And there was a mountain lion shot in Pennsylvania that was once once on display on a campus museum that a basketball player thought was cool. That mountain lion was adopted as a mascot. So Nittany Lions really mean "Mountain Lone Mountain Mountain Lions"

Decent hire. Could have done better, could have done worse. OL hire will be cruicial.

Spav has run some solid offenses and I'm willing to overlook his struggles at Texas State. Texas State gave no institutional support (no budget, no facilities--players often worked out at a local high school that had much better facilities), and it seems like an impossible place to build a successful team.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Then he’ll be used to the Cal support!!

GoldenSD81's avatar

Well this is his second time at Cal so he should be doubly use to it.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

He’ll be happy to have a job after being run out of San Marcos.

If we can block, I like the Spav hire. I worry about Plummer’s accuracy if he’s back. He wasn’t accurate enough for my liking…hoping for a transfer miracle.

O.Overall's avatar
