Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer will be sidelined until midseason after undergoing surgery for a herniated disk Thursday, according to the team.
General manager Chris Young said Friday that Scherzer, who was removed from the roster during the World Series because of back discomfort, underwent surgery after injections and other less-invasive treatments didn't relieve the pain. Young said the team is hopeful the three-time Cy Young Award winner will be fully healed and recovered by June or July.

Dodgers get Rays ace and Cillian Murphy look-alike Tyler Glasnow via trade. Glasnow is a guy who feeds people power fastballs and then strikes them out with a filthy curveball that looks like his fastball as it comes out of his hand
Trade only goes through if the Dodgers can extend Glasnow. I'm curious to see how much he gets. For as good as he is, he's never thrown more than 120 innings in a season.
Maybe that Nobel Prize stat is flipped? Surprised by 1) Cal 50% classes fewer than 20 (think I had 2 or 3 of those?) and 2) lack of TT winning conf seasons.
I'll be at a Holiday Party tomorrow so have it on record. I will have to either watch when I get home, which could be ridiculously late night, or Sunday morning.
Was a little slow because I'm in my busy season at work and remembering to upload the DBD falls of the end and then I'm having a cup of coffee and I get the "did I leave the iron on" sinking feeling, except then I remember the DBD. That's when you see some even worse quality BS than normal
I was going to put together a top ten all-time Cal bowl victories but realized there have only been 12 (against 11 losses and one tie) so a top five will have to suffice. As you will note I couldn't decide on a number one so copped out and had a tie at the top.
1) 1921 Rose Bowl over Ohio State, 28-0.
1) 1938 Rose Bowl over Alabama, 13-0.
3) 1992 Citrus Bowl over Clemson, 37-13.
4) 2006 Holiday Bowl over Texas A&M, 45-10
5) 1993 Alamo Bowl over Iowa, 37-3.
Four of the five were blow outs and the other a comfortable win. Interesting to note that the Bears have only suffered two bad losses in Bowl games (38-12 in the '59 Rose Bowl to Iowa and a not as close as the score indicates 45-31 defeat to Texas Tech in the '04 Holiday Bowl).
Kid is going to earn his in the pros but will not have the same opportunities to earn lifelong adoration of a fanbase as he does by staying around one more year. Gotta think this is part of his thinking...oh, and we are ensuring that he gets that NIL money too!
I think it's short term bad but long-term good. I think ESPN, FOX, and the biggest programs may look to shed some "dead weight" from their conferences with the next media deal scramble. The relegated teams would need to find homes. It wouldn't be a bad idea to still have the Pac around when our time with the ACC is done because we can't compete financially with NFL, Jr. teams.
That's what I meant by it being short-term pain. The Comcast accounting error wiped out the reserves. Without some runway cash, the conference goes bye-bye permanently (with WSU and OSU unlikely to recover).
Minnesota is playing in a Bowl. But they ran out of quarterbacks. They reportedly had to bribe their second string guy $30k to stick around and not leave.
Oklahoma Governor signs order to eliminate DEI at public universities. I would love it if POC stopped attending OU and playing on their sports teams and see how fast these fascists reverse their racists attitudes.
$886b National Defense authorization bill passes Congress. It includes some - but excludes many - of the culture war provisions the GOP wanted. It contains only $0.3b for Ukraine and has language that prohibits a President from unilaterally leaving NATO.

Remember the Oregon state legislators who would flee in order to prevent a quorum in order to halt legislation. And then a 2022 law was enacted to disqualify legislators if they have more than 9 unexcused absences and then they continued to do that tactic and were agog when they were prevented from running again? Well, they lost their injunction case.

He was starting to have health issues his last couple years in dc and age has definitely caught up with him.
Sure the Rangers won the WS, without deGrom and with a very limited Scherzer, but those two contracts are going to be killers next year.

Looks like 4/110 extension on top of his 25 million. Going to have to go with a 6 man rotation with his glass arm.
I'm going to miss him. Because he was always injured when he was on the Rays, I frequently got to see him play in Durham for tune-up games

And watch the Raiders return to form and score 6 points vs. the Chiefs next week.

Depends upon the major. All my Rhetoric classes were <20
I thought the same thing about the classes fewer than 20, assuming that this only includes undergrad courses.
i was thinking there might not be DBD today since everyone is traveling to the Cal game!
we leave for India on a 800p flight tonight, so i guess i'll still be traveling when the game happens on Sat.
I'll be at a Holiday Party tomorrow so have it on record. I will have to either watch when I get home, which could be ridiculously late night, or Sunday morning.
I'm traveling to Portland OR today. Gonna watch the game from Nike territory
I’m at SFO heading to Cancun. Will watch there :-)

The fact that Cal has played in Rose Bowl, and that Cal has beaten Alabama and Ohio State, and both were shutouts, no one is going to believe it.
Alamo Bowl performance was underrated. Jerrott Willard, with some of the largest shoulder pads in modern football, went off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uffZWp4_Cv4
I love how Willard picks off the pass and doesn't pivot his head to look for would-be tacklers but does take a peek at the Iowa sideline.
