Cal gets a verbal commit from a c/o 2025 4-star RB. https://twitter.com/jusyis3/status/1606397267438497792

Cal lands P Lachie Wilson via the transfer portal. He's very very good.

SGBear's avatar

He was #33 in FBS for yards per punt. Jamieson ended #14. There is less than 2 yard difference between Jamieson and Wilson. It didn't help that Wilson was forced to punt from within his opponents territory twice against USF

Is it me, or do twitter pages seem to load much slower than they used to? It seemed to take like 4-5 seconds for this page to load.

A well executed 2 + 1 on the Bears' last possession of the 2nd qtr, and a Stanford missed 3 at the buzzer, has Cal back within 20 at the half, down only 47-29.

AndyPanda's avatar

After Stanford opened the lead to 20+, Cal continues to battle, and got briefly back within 15, and only trails by 20 after 3 qtrs. 68-48.

AndyPanda's avatar

Bears battle all the way, staying within 30 (largest lead was only 29) at all times, and hit a closing 3 to only lose by 21, 90-69.

That same arctic chill that gripped much of the nation this week has begun to hit W4C Mid-Atlantic. It was 54 degrees when I went to bed last night. When I go to bed tonight, it's going to be 9 degrees with a feels like of -8. Further complicating matters, a storm dropped 2.5 inches of rain over the last 24 hours and all that standing water is going to flash-freeze this afternoon.

dcblue's avatar

I tried to go for a run this morning. I'd hoped to hit the spot after the rain stopped and before the cold and wind started. I failed. It was still raining lightly with a little snow mixed in and the wind was already kicking up. Made it through a couple miles before packing it in, mostly because of the wind. It was mid 40s when I got up this morning and it's below freezing now.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Just getting up and out there, you have extra large huevos.

Frostbite can be preceded by swelling.

GoldenSD81's avatar

That isn’t just 2 miles more than I would do in that weather, that’s about 10 more yards than I would do in that weather.

Terence's avatar

It was so cold yesterday that when I got to holes 17 and 18 I went into my golf bag and pulled out my vest to pull over my quarter zip. Brr! 52 degrees!

dcblue's avatar

There's a couple things I want to get at the grocery store and want to check on a couple homeless I know so I'm going to venture out on a walk. Currently my thermometer says 20 degrees and winds are about 20 MPH gusting a little higher. I will have on as many layers as I can fit.

On the west side in the Northwest, we woke up to a coating of ice on everything. Now, its starting to melt in the slightest, and is even slicker, with a sheen of water on the ice, AND water under the ice. On the east side, they are doing an upper midwest impression.

OskiDubs's avatar

26 degrees here…no power at hotel.

And no clean towels due to power outage.

So not using pool yet.

Wait, did I not mention that I meant 26C (here in Puerto Vallarta)?

Flying back to cold San Francisco tomorrow. Hope our plane is doing flights on the west coast today, and not coming in from Chicago or something.

He might not be gay.

Trump reached out to 190 state legislators in MI, GA, and AZ in an attempt to overturn the election.

The RHCP have a special place in my heart, if nothing else because of their Fight Like a Brave poster that - no pun intended - hung in Blondies Pizza in Telegraph in the late 80s until who knows when. The high-school me tried to not be freaked out by the socks-in-dongs while ordering a slice.

Once people start cancelling, they'll backtrack. Since all 3 boys and my ex uses it, I guarantee they'll flag my account. Also with one using it between his place and his GFs. I think I'll pay one, maybe two months just to see if they change their mind. Otherwise I'll cancel.

Dodgers' Trevor Bauer will be reinstated and have his suspension reduced from 324 to 194, which means he only has 50 games suspension left to serve in 2023. The Dodgers are on the hook for his $22.5m salary.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35306975/dodgers-trevor-bauer-suspension-cut-reinstated-immediately

AndyPanda's avatar

I have complete confidence in Dave Roberts to get ~$2.5 milion's worth out of this deal.

Terence's avatar

The decision date is Jan 6 - another big Jan 6 for Bauer!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

As it probably should be, given how quickly the case was thrown out. The guy is a dirt bag sexual deviant a$$hat, but that suspension nonetheless seemed long considering no law was broken, despite the horrible optics for a total clown.

Stanfurd hires Bobby April III as DC/OLB coach. It's his first DC role after being a LB coach for most of the past 15 years

https://gostanford.com/news/2022/12/22/football-stanford-hires-bobby-april-as-dc.aspx

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_April_III

SGBear's avatar

While April has yet to show what "his style" is, he last worked under Jim Leonhard - who used a 3-4 base with hybrid tweener players similar to Wilcox's. That is Leonhard would often use a heavy OLB/DE to put more pressure in the box or a S/Nickel to cap pass-happy schemes. However, Leonhard preferred to use single-high while Wilcox seems to prefer two-high.

AndyPanda's avatar

Wilcox hasn't had in my recollection anyone capable of playing single high effectively.

Air Force and it's running option defeated Baylor 30-15 in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth. Airforce had the ball for more than 40 minutes (vs. 20 for BU). AF's defense did its job too as Baylor went 0-11 on third down and only had 230 yards in offense, including rushing for an average of 1.6 yards per carry.

AF QB had attempted 76 yards all season going into the game, completing less than half of them. He made one of them count, going 68 yards.

Not exactly the strongest recruiting message. A bit schmaltzy for a football blog. Maybe a great Christmas Card message for JW, who is on his way to being fired at the end of this next season (the HC who just saw his two 2023 QBs enter the portal)

HaasBear's avatar

Ehhhh potentially but we have a new OC who may have already identified “his guy”. There are 128 starting QB jobs in D1 and even less in the power 5, guys with a starting job don’t just enter the portal.

Bear19's avatar

And yet, Wilcox and Spavital have managed to run off our Power 5 starting QB, with both the top two QBs entering the portal. With no replacement in sight. May Oski have mercy upon their souls.

HaasBear's avatar

No replacement in sight that we are aware of. I’ll panic in February if we don’t have a QB1.

IF YOU USE LAST PASS (I do)

Time to add 2-Factor Authentication and change your password

Some really bad stuff - the were hacked. Bad news - all of their customer info and stuff was un-encrypted.

Good news . . .sort of? - It's still password protected. Now the hackers might be able to brute force your master password but still time to go through and change some stuff.
