What’s this? It’s an observed holiday because Christmas came on a Sunday. But there’s a DBD? I’m confused. Screw it. Get in, losers. We’re going DBDing.
Someone had framed the fringe GOP's objection to funding Ukraine's defense in an interesting way. That is, for less than 5% of one year of America's annual military budget and a lot of Ukrainian blood/suffering, one of America's main military rival's effectiveness has been essentially halved.
Oh wow, man. A Sonoma cop has been charged with - over a three year period - stopping motorists and extorting $3,700 in cash and [checks notes]... 85 pounds of weed.
Triangle of Sadness…um, holy schitt, what a ride…major satire on class struggles, man. I think I liked it, but was really not knowing/expecting where it was going. 145 minutes and it seemed like multiple movies all in one…can see why it won Palme d’Or, but, damn!!
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (Netflix, 13/19, WB). Rian Johnson packs a lot into this sequel to Knives Out. Densely written and well-acted for the most part - except Daniel Craig's weird southern accent that still bugged me. Glass Onion is campier, looser, and more whimsical than the first movie. It's got some big plot holes, weird distractions, and starts off pretty slow - but ends well enough. I enjoyed it enough to say it's worth a watch.
I was thinking of watching the first one before watching this one. This one is on Netflix but the first one isn't. Do I really need to watch the first one first?
We liked it better than the first movie: 15/19 in our book.
Night before we watched Scrooged because of all the fans here - I enjoyed it in the middle (11/19), but my wife and daughter did not like it hardly at all.
Both Knives Out were fun for what they were…more sleuthing in the first, more name-dropping in the second!! Not breaking any new ground with either, but fun!
Scrooged was awesome…I met Cugel in Oxford and am convinced he remained cryogenically frozen until August ‘19 because a ton of these movies he’s watching now should have been viewed earlier in life. Watched Scrooged as a 14 year-old, and it’s been a fave ever since!
Mellow, a titch uncomfortable, but good to see fam…woke up Thurs with lower back tightness after last Monday’s incident, and the 6-hour drive from SB to the 510 was not a good one for it. It was sore all weekend, and Mama Chitwood has become a bit of a challenge as she she ages, especially since I gave up the sauce. Boy howdy….hit the road early this a.m. and got home about 2…probably the last road trip for Allie pup, unfortunately. Sweet baby girl.
Laid back. All kids back along with No 1's GF. They went to dinner at their grandmothers along with their mom on Christmas Eve. We had Christmas dinner here. Watched some of the Warriors game while cooking and gleefully watched the Suns lose and Brady win (ugh).
Debbie Downer xmas this year. Home alone with the dog, quarantined with the 'vid. Coincidentally had a few other family members who also had it, so we've postponed our annual xmas day get together to the first weekend in Jan. Still havent wrapped gifts or completely finished shopping. Got flattened by symptoms mid week.
Pretty quiet. I did go to the Kennedy Center Christmas jazz concert. They have it every year and it used to be pretty small but over time it's grown to the point that it filled the Concert Hall (2,500 people).
Also, a large-est change in opening presents. I think we have done it differently than 90% of families (guessing) - we take turns opening presents, and in the past, for my family I did what my Dad did: pick a present from the pile, first for the youngest, and then go though the family, each person opening the presents so that we all can see.
This time I was going to let them all pick - but my son stepped up and assumed my role in picking the presents for the family - which was a LOT more fun for me just to relax.
Had to adapt after where my daughter works experienced an exposure incident, my son-in law got a 24 hour but, and an ice storm occurred, but we have all gotten pretty good at calling audibles over the last few years, and it was still great. The make-up event with the other side of the family in a few days will be too! Never let temporary circumstances over-ride the greater good.
James Beeks, a Broadway actor-turned-Oathkeeper, has espoused sovereign citizen talking points while on trial for his participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. In a court filing last month, he announced that he was firing his public defender and choosing to represent himself “in Propria Sui Juris,” a favorite term of sovereign citizens acting as their own lawyers. He stylized his name as “:james beeks:,” a flourish the sovereign movement believes makes them immune from taxes, and signed the document with both the common sovereign sign of a fingerprint and his name, followed by “all rights reserved,” which sovereign citizens believe is an assertion of a person’s individual copyright. He has pleaded not guilty.
Howard Adams, a Florida man, fired his lawyers on Nov. 17. That same day, Adams was due in court—a last-chance appearance after he’d skipped a court date the previous week. But when a judge sent him a notice telling him to show up or face arrest, Adams sent the notice back, stamped with a red “notice for the record” stating that “I, by affidavit am a declared living American Sovereign standing with Treaty Law of God, do ‘REJECT YOUR OFFER TO CONTRACT’ to attend your ‘private bar guild matter’ for the following” reasons, including that he doesn’t believe he is a citizen, and that he believes the court is an admiralty court.
Adams, who has pleaded not guilty, was subsequently arrested.

First 49er QB EVER to win his first 3 starts. Notables including Tittle, Brodie, Montana, Young, and Smith (or Kaepernick or Garoppolo) didn't accomplish it.
All Oregon Stat game reports will be later than usual coming out for the next couple of years, due to the extra time to try to type it, have spell check not catch it, proof-read it, and re-key the spelling of the last name. Fortunately, people are usually a little more patient waiting for the story on wins than losses.
It’s not gonna be pretty because Wilcox is kind of unimpressive and doesn’t land big fish…but they have plenty of spots still to fill…let’s wait until January to call it.
Russia/Ukraine

Allegedly, Russia is involuntarily converting depositor funds into war-bonds. This has allegedly caused a bank run in Russia.

Dan Harmon loses his mind over two Hallmark Channel movies

Another case of me being out of the loop and having to look up who Dan Harmon is.

No, not really, they ain't actually connected.

My s-i-l tested positive. She and my brother had to cancel visiting their son and his GF at Tahoe so you weren't alone.

Pretty awesome, was a nice day in the Bay Area, and a great dinner with a most excellent 100 pt. wine.

Broncos fire head coach after 4-11 start to his tenure. Please note that Jim Knowlton is not Denver's owner. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35323346/denver-broncos-fire-coach-nathaniel-hackett-4-11-start
Are you sure he didn’t deserve a long extension for not interviewing with another nfl team?
Incompetent Knowlton would’ve extended him simply for cutting KC’s lead to 6 with 10-minutes left in regulation two weeks ago.
Dolphins build a 20-10 lead after a 2nd quarter FG with over 4 minutes to go. Then they go FUM, Missed FG, INT, INT, INT and lose 26-20.

I saw bits and pieces of the game. On the news tonight I hear Tua in the concussion protocol. Maybe that had an effect.
I was shocked when I saw the score. I watched until halftime then turned the game off. Thought for sure the Packers were going to lose.

He’s legit, and a great fit for Shanahan and those Niner weapons. Awesome that he’s f-ing feed Kittle…let the Big Dog eat!
Never saw that coming after watching his Senior year for the Cyclones…he was very average.

who wore it best? Not Oski apparently
https://www.bannersociety.com/2020/3/11/21166316/sailor-hat-animal-college-logo-mascots
That Oski doesn't top that list is a travesty and a scandal and an outrage and an injustice and a mockery and a sham -- plus I don't like it.
They did note a Cal bear, it just wasn't Oski. I don't recall ever seeing Oski wearing a sailor-cap style cap.
When was Oski invented?
He made his debut on September 27, 1941 at a Cal/St.Mary's game. The Bears won that day, 31-0.

Fun fact, we have the worst recruiting class in the Power 5!

And not even the best in the FCS!
Is sac state beating us?
247 has FCS Campbell ranked 82, with Cal at 84 (counting HS recruits only).
Ummm, it's always darkest before the dawn?
Have you seen the basketball team?
Point taken.
Let's see after the final signing day rather than the early signing period.
If it's still only 14 scholarship players, then we have a problem.
Go Bears!!!
