Coffee Talk

testing out a new DBD category

space_lab's avatar

I only drink it socially.

Newellbany's avatar

My office brought special breakfast stuff into work yesterday and someone brought in lavender iced coffee. I couldn't drink it. Lavender is NOT for consuming. It's for soap only...and not even that, really.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i used it to freshen up my underwear drawer...

kidding

Newellbany's avatar

I really like Gevalia, the Swedish coffee brand that's readily available here. It's flavorful, yet exceptionally smooth.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Mocha is the best coffee, because I can't taste the Coffee. Red Whale Coffee in San Rafael makes the best Mocha, probably because they put in the most chocolate. Cole Coffee on College has an amazing Mexican Coffee.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i claim you do like coffee despite you saying otherwise. otherwise you would just order hot chocolate or Ovaltine

heyalumnigo's avatar

I guess you're correct in that I probably should order hot chocolate instead. I'm not sure caffeine affects me too much.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i think the combo of the bitter coffee and the sweet chocolate is a good one

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

plenty of people put plenty of sugary stuff in their coffee. I do too occasionally.

siphon coffee

was having lunch as a new Japanese place and saw this for the first time. quite the operation. i wanted to get some but the post-workout stomach was not ready for it.

i'll have to try it next time. this is what it looks like ...

Siphon coffee is a unique brewing method that uses a siphon or vacuum pot to create a rich, full-bodied cup of coffee through a combination of vapor pressure and vacuum suction. Read on to discover how to brew the perfect siphon coffee.

I saw something very similar in a Chinese cafe in Philly. We did try it though.

After reading though the last link, it appears to be a mash-up between a percolator and a french press. Only, the water stays on the beans for a much shorter period, favoring light or medium roasts.

I'll stick with dark roasts and my pour over, though I do appreciate the theatrics, at least a little.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

agreed, everyone has their standard ways in the morning. the ritual is at least 50% of it think.

sometimes i get thrown out of the routine in a fun way. if the espresso machine at home is down for some reason i have the moka pot as a backup. after doing that for a week, i think "wow, moka pot is pretty good too"

when i travel more than a day or two, i usually take the campground friendly aeropress along since you cant expect the airbnb to have good stuff. and again after a few days, i think i really like aeropress too

FiatSlug's avatar

I especially agree with the idea that ritual is a big part of the enjoyment. Change in the ritual can also bring about enjoyment not only in the new process/ritual, but also in appreciation for what was the past ritual.

Variety is the spice of life.

Did you know that Penn State's original colors a very long time ago were pink and black? Fabrics weren't what they are now, and clothes were worn much longer then, so the uniforms faded over time until they looked more like white and a dark blue. Somebody must have said, hey, that looks better!

heyalumnigo's avatar

No 2 used to love pink. He also loved Dora. He loved pink until he went to a preschool in Louisville and the boys there told him boys can't like pink.

Newellbany's avatar

Amongst dudes, Texas men wear the most pink, in my experience. Doesn't seem like that'd be the case, but it hella is.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i have come to like pink. even hot pink.

some of my cycling clothes and accessories have a touch of hot pink. gives it a little extra zing.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Back in college, I had both the hot pink and hot green Agassi shoes.

I was similarly frustrated as HSB. We both got a Sea of greens badge for our efforts, though!

heyalumnigo's avatar

I came lose to getting one.

While doing this one, I realized that I'm a little influenced by seeing other people's "guesses". Obviously not exact letters, but potential groups of letters in that I can see patterns that others may have guessed which influence what I might guess.

FiatSlug's avatar

I have been stubbornly not influenced by the guesses of others. I want to do it myself because that's how I learn: my mistakes are my own.

heyalumnigo's avatar

I don't think I conciously do it. And for some reason I think it was today that I realized I might do it.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i was pretty sure i would get it in 3, but it was not to be.

looks like a game connect 4 or something!
