Took No 3 to his gum graft surgery this morning.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

was that planned or some injury acute thing?

heyalumnigo's avatar

Planned. The dentist said he probably should get one at his last checkup.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

sounds painful .. i am glad i dont need one of those

heyalumnigo's avatar

I had one over 20 years ago. I think there was some pain later that day. And then maybe for the next 3-4 days it was more of a dull pain, vs a sharp pain. They gave him 800 mg Ibuprofen so I think he'll be just fine.

John Wall has been signed to be Howard University's president of basketball operations. It is only a matter of time before he tears his Achilles Heel and is out for the season.

Jeopardy!

now that younger child is home from college for a few weeks we are back to watching an episode or two most nights.

some guy was on a 31-day streak and taken down by an Intl Chess Grandmaster.

i am sure Ken Jennings (74 day streak) has happy to see someone cruising along like that guy was. it seems that 74 is a nearly unbreakable number in the modern era where the people literally study to be on the show.

Wiata78's avatar

Hope you didn’t miss the episode with Ruey!

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

we need to go back and watch that one

I stopped doing Wordle about a year ago. But I saw in the NYT Morning newsletter that yesterday's average was really high (over 5). So decided to try it, but did today's first. Did quite well, I think. About to go check my stats...hold, please.

Skill 84 (89 Avg)

Luck 55 (63 Avg)

So a lot less good than I thought. Neither lucky nor skillful :-/ Even tho I felt good about my third guess! I'll try yesterday's and report back (after also seeing how y'all did!)

So even tho the average yesterday was 5.3 – which I beat by 1.3 – my stats are average?!? Besides getting tired of Wordle (and stressing over keep my streaks alive!), WordleBot also turned me off it a bit. I could never grok its logic...

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i had stopped doing wordle as well. however now that it seems to a good feature on DBD to start generating some random discussion, i am into it.

while i dont quite get WordleBot either, i find that it does enhance my enjoyment of it.

MoriBear's avatar

good reply, HSB!

I also did like the Bot at the beginning, but the combo of the repetitiveness of Wordle – without the intellectual stimulation of a good xword – and the seeming capriciousness of the Bot turned me off.

Also, today is the 15th anniversary of Obama announcing that Osama bin Laden was killed.

Surprised Trump didn't retroactively take credit for it.

Also Virginia Tax Day. State returns and first estimated payments due today.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

also pay day! my first paycheck on the new job.

gonna go out for lunch at my local brew pub (not that i needed an excuse)

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

interesting that it is disconnected from the IRS tax day. is that common in lots of states?

dcblue's avatar

I don’t know about other states. The other non-Cali state I lived in didn’t have state income tax. The state form starts with a line from the federal form so I’m guessing it’s to give you time after completing federal but I expect most people do both at the same time.

Looks like Fiat was right. Giants swept with 2 walk-offs.

Bullpen and offense waste brilliant Logan Webb start

The 2026 San Francisco Gianta are discovering new ways to lose. In the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, it was a blown save and a walk-off infield single.

FiatSlug's avatar

In this case, I hate being right.

EDIT: Sudden realization is that I coulda won a bunch of bucks if I had bet on those outcomes. Problem: I avoid betting because it often results in a loss.
