Not sure. SF fireworks are off the Golden Gate Bridge this year. Some of the usual spots downtown can't see the GGB. Somewhere like the new Presidio tops park would be cool but it's going to be a PITA to get out there and back afterwards.
The most I will probably do is try to catch some of the military flyovers. Trump is going to start his speech at 9 and fireworks won’t start until probably close to 11. I can literally walk across the street to see the fireworks but likely won’t make the effort.
Edit: and now I don’t need to make too much effort to see the flyovers because while typing the above I caught about ten minutes of rehearsal out my front window. National Airport is closed for three hours tomorrow midday for more rehearsal so maybe try to see some of that.
Because it’s been designated a national security event the Secret Service is in charge of security. That means no coolers, lawn chairs, no metal or glass water containers, and a whole long list of other no-nos. Even emphasizing no aerosols including bug or sun tan sprays.
in Burlington, traditionally the town fireworks is on Jul 3 so people can go back to their little towns on the 4th.
we are hosting a fireworks viewing and having some friends over. no cooking. just getting some middle eastern food delivered in bulk from a local place.
it might rain on the 4th, so we are moving our bike ride excursion to the 3rd. if weather permits we will go see the Burlington Symphony play outside at Shelburne Farms - classical pops stuff w/ a Stars & Stripes medley to end.
Incredible, riveting performance this evening by Cape Verde, including a phenomenal goal by CV to tie it at 2 in extra time. They were outlasted by Argentina 3-2, but it took an extra thirty minutes.
The red card was brutal, especially since there was no call at all on the field during the play. Yellow would have at least made some sense, but the step that led to the injury looked to my uneducated eye to be completely unintentional and a fairly normal move.
I think the problem here is that yellow cards are not reviewable. It may have been a harsh red, but if the choice is between no foul and a red, it has to be a red. Player intent doesn't come into the decision, he has to be in control of where his foot goes during a challenge.
Per what I've seen about VAR rules, I think another problem is that this probably shouldn't have been called up for VAR review since there was no foul called on the field? VAR is supposed to be used for technical matters (like where the ball was, where a player's position was, and "point of contact" on fouls) but this was a judgment call being changed.
Just seems weird to me when I saw Messi deliberately spike a guy in the back of the calf in a similar fashion earlier in the tournament but there was no foul whatsoever and no review.
I don't think it needs to be called a foul on the field to be sent up to VAR for review if it's a serious enough foul. If had had just been called a foul maybe VAR doesn't intervene. If it's called a yellow VAR probably doesn't intervene.
Yes, the Messi non-call is a good comparison, but just because they get it wrong with Messi doesn't mean they should continue to get it wrong.
BERKELEY – The California women's soccer team announced its 2026 fall schedule Wednesday, unveiling an 18-match slate that features 10 contests to be played at Edwards Stadium. The full schedule can be seen here.
The Golden Bears head into their third season as members of the ACC, which is widely regarded as the top conference in the sport. Nine ACC programs made the NCAA Championship in 2025, including three of the four College Cup teams. Cal faced both national champion Florida State and runner-up Stanford during the regular season.
26 members (14 men, 12 women) of the California track & field team have been named All-ACC Academic for the 2026 outdoor season, as announced by the ACC on Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must bear a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and have attended their university for one full academic year. Honorees must have participated in at least 50% of their team's athletic contests in the outdoor season and have competed in that year's ACC and/or NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Five days off after a stretch of every-other-night games. And they had 7 or 8 days off early in the season. Don’t get why the cadence can’t be more consistent.
Even though NBA is done, maybe something to do with arena usage? I know that the Sharks used to have to go on the road for like 2+ weeks because of the SAP tennis tournament they had at the Shark Tank.
They did it. They actually did it: The Giants finally beat the Diamondbacks.
The win feels a bit like finding a crumpled up dollar in your pocket after getting mugged for your wallet and phone. Less of a win, more of “not a total loss”, but the Giants will take it. These small victories are what they’re playing for as the calendar flips to July and speculation abounds before the trade deadline. Unabashed sellers, they enter the market with trench coat fully open, rattling their wares: “Franchise cornerstones, here. Get yur cornerstones here. 100% authentic, no-doubt, real-deal cornerstones here!”
The Dodgers opted for a bullpen game on Wednesday, and the decision backfired as the A’s took the finale by a final score of 7-1, snapping the Dodgers’ four-game winning streak.
Dodgers opt to push Ohtani to Fri and instead bring up a minor league guy to eat innings in a bullpen game. Ohtani has a blister so part of this is probably to give the blister a couple more days and part of it is to have him pitch against the Padres. Charlie Barnes threw 7 innings, saving the bullpen for the 4 game series against the Padres.

I didn't actually remember this, though I must have heard it many many times.
Probably only if you watched the show.
I did see many episodes, though not as many as my father and sister! My favorite is the one with Monte Markham.
I don't remember that one. I do remember the fembots
4th of Jul plans
no DBD tomorrow. enjoy your day off.

Going to a tiny two-block parade (mainly of the neighborhood kids on their bikes). It’s very wholesome.
those are the best

It's going to be hotter than hell. Don't see how he's going to ramble on for more than 15 min.

Copa Mundial
England 2 - DRC 1
Belgium 3 - Senegal 2
USA 2 - Bosnia-Herz 0
games start at 3p, 7p, and 11p ET today. seems to be getting later and later as the rounds progress.
Incredible, riveting performance this evening by Cape Verde, including a phenomenal goal by CV to tie it at 2 in extra time. They were outlasted by Argentina 3-2, but it took an extra thirty minutes.
US advances. plays Belgium next Mon in Seattle
Belgium was down 0-2 to Senegal and scored 2 quick goals to tie it as time was expiring. scored a 3rd in extra time.
US advances but loses their best striker to a red card and per the rules he has to miss the next game as well.
Red cards in soccer are like targeting in college football: I have no idea what the standard is supposed to be.
