Traveling through Stillwater Oklahoma (through Tulsa) to visit Oklahoma State University this week with my soon-to-be-high-school-senior son. Never been to Oklahoma. We'll see.
BTW, we are flying out of SFO this week and it is absolutely insane that, at least in my experience, most flights are delayed (usually 30 minutes or so) not because of fog or other weather event, but because of construction on the runways. Our flight to Tulsa includes a 57-minute layover in Salt Lake City that, if the usual delay happens, becomes uncomfortably tight.
The runway construction coupled with the FAA removal of the waiver to allow parallel landings very close together is making SFO travel delayed. Many flights are being held at their destination due to the reduced number of landings.
We sort of had that experience returning from our trip to Oregon State. We were put on a holding pattern as we approached SFO. We were initially told it would be 45 minutes, but it turned out to be only 15. When we were released from the holding pattern, the pilot announced that "only in Frisco" would this happen. Ick.
in case you are delayed a couple hours in SLC i recommend a short 10-min Uber ride to the Red Iguana. some of the best Mexican food you can get. the lines can be long at peak times though - probably you are ok on random Tue in the summer
My family and friends went to the Cal v. Utah game in SLC during our last year in the PAC-12. I remember there being some very high quality Mexican restaurants in town. Our group went to a place funny enough called the Blue Iguana. It was excellent.
booked a day trip to Petra which requires border crossing from Israel into Jordan at Eliat.
i got this warning from tour co > Judaica and Jewish related artifacts (such as yarmulke, Siddur, tefillin etc.) are not allowed – please consult with our office first to avoid any discomfort
And now Argentina up 3-2. They have scored at 79, 83, and 90+2 minutes so quite the comeback. I am not usually watching but this lined up with my lunch.
Pundits in other countries have noted how much the US media has over-hyped the USMNST, creating the illusion that they could make a deep run or even win the WC. The past few years performances and the make up of the US roster led objective observers to conclude that the Americans were likely looking at a fourth appearance in the last five cups in the round of sixteen and no more. That's what happened. The US looks to be just like Mexico -- always a good bet to get out of the group but no threat to go much further.
The Golden State Valkyries have the longest active winning streak in the WNBA and extended it to five games with a 62-49 victory over the Washington Mystics at CareFirst Arena on Monday. The Valkyries held the Mystics to just 49 points in the win, the lowest point total by a WNBA team this season. Golden State allowed just 16 points in the second half, marking the first time a WNBA team has accomplished this feat since 2021. The Valkyries overcame their lowest-scoring first quarter of the season by holding Washington to single digits in both the third and fourth quarters. The Mystics were held to just 30 percent from the field (18/60 FG) and 12.5 percent from three (3/24 3PT) by one of the WNBA's top-rated defenses.
May and June served as months to forget for Landen Roupp and Heliot Ramos. Roupp, following a brilliant March and April that generated All-Star buzz, struggled disastrously. After ending April with a 5-1 record and a 2.55 ERA, Roupp labored through 11 May and June starts, sporting a 5.87 ERA and walking 26 batters in 53.2 innings. Stunningly, the San Francisco Giants lost all 11 of his starts. Ramos suffered an injury in mid-May that landed him on the IL. It took him six weeks and nearly 40 games to return.
The streak of no extra-inning games is finally over, and we can say that the Dodgers are undefeated in extras this season, walking it off against the Rockies 8-7 in the 11th inning. The decisive hit in this thrilling game came from the bat of Dalton Rushing with an RBI single, completing a terrific three-hit performance for the Dodgers catcher.
saw a headline earlier today that they were shutting down fan viewing at the end of today's stage due to wildfires and smoke--- did that hold to be true?

we are ranked #16, Mexico #10 in recent FIFA list
Which is to my point. How far would one expect the 16th ranked team to get? Round of 16.
agreed, we would have to over-achieve to get to next round, or have presidential intervention

It was a slug fest. Neither team shot well. Our two all stars — last years and this years — combined for FOUR points!
But GSV D was intense!
WSH crowd was eerily silent. Opposite of Ballhalla. Any of the DC based folks ever go to a game there?
Coming from ATL in previous game, which also had a bad “crowd” (4,200-seat arena!)
Ballers have a travel day. From Modesto back home to play....Modesto.
i would need a rest day too if i had to go to Modesto.

Tour de France update. stage 4 today back in France.
Vingegaard got off to a good start and held yellow for 2 days on the strength of a good team time trial.
Pogacar took it back yesterday after small gains on a not-so-hard mountain stage.
Pogacar looks as strong as ever. Vingo looks good. Remco, solid but not at the same level. long way to Paris, so we'll see.
