Bonnie Tyler, Who Sang ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ Dies at 75

With a voice both weathered and operatic, she minted 1980s pop anthems like “Total Eclipse” and “Holding Out for a Hero.”

Youngins know about her due to Shrek. Though maybe they just know the song and don't know that she sang it.

We haven't had this one in a while

Michael Jackson's Beat It came one while I was ordering my bagel. Always amazed by this song, pius the Eddie Van Halen guitar solo is insane.

Eddie Van Halen broke a band policy to play on ”Beat It” | GuitarPlayer https://share.google/ta70jdgH6T0c96fTE

I think if Michael Jackson asks you to play something on one of his songs you break any band rules to do it.

7 today. not impressive. first 2 words were not enough to get one of the 3rd guess

i was just marveling at the genius of a game like Wordle. you go from 2309 possible words, down to 211 and then 3 in just 2 guesses. it is an interesting problem w/ constraints.

Janelle Salaün Scores Career-High 26 Points Leading Valkyries to Franchise-Record Sixth Straight Win (beat the Tempo)

https://valkyries.wnba.com/news/gameday-recap-20260708

Janelle Salaün scored a career-high 26 points, including three straight clutch 3-pointers in the Valkyries’ 83-75 victory over the Toronto Tempo at Coca-Cola Coliseum on Wednesday. Salaün single handily outscored the Tempo's bench by herself and the Valkyries collectively had 52 points from their reserves. Kaitlyn Chen set a career-high with eight made field goals off the bench, tallying 16 points. Kayla Thornton paced the starting unit with 15 points and nine rebounds. With the win, the Valkyries set a franchise record with their sixth straight win and become the first WNBA team this season to reach 16 wins.

Oh another team that does not end in "S". There aren't too many pro teams that do not end in "S".

Wiata78's avatar

I wonder if the Tempo have a mascot? Like maybe a metronome?

Edit: Apparently the Metro Gnome has been considered.

heyalumnigo's avatar

I would totally vote for Metro Gnome.

Dylan Cease takes no-hit bid into 9th as Blue Jays crush Giants

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/san-francisco-giants-scores-standings/108758/giants-blue-jays-no-hit-bid-dylan-cease

Baseball has a funny way of sticking with you. Some plays, some moments, some games, some players, just latch onto certain segments of your brain and I’m not fit to diagnose why.

I’ve consumed thousands and thousands of San Francisco Giants games in my life. Some through paper box scores, and others through digital ones; many through the speakers of my bright yellow boombox that my parents got me in my youth, and many more through god knows how many different car stereos; some I watched on TV, some I watched on a computer, and some I watched on my phone; a few were in person, and plenty have been followed through social media or the play-by-play data online.

Tour de France hits the classic climbs of the Pyrenees today (stage 6). Col d' Aspin (cat 1) and the Col du Tourmalet (hors categorie)

ends on a cat 2 climbs so we'll see how pivotal it is (or not). mostly someone who is considered to be a contender will fall out of contention.

Tour de France Stage 6: Tadej Pogačar Buries His Rivals in the Pyrénées

Jonas Vingegaard braced against Pogačar’s Pyrénéan assault but could barely limit his losses.

The Dane finished second, more than two minutes back. A group of GC wannabes followed 30 seconds later.

Went to Barcelona as a family back in 87. Don't remember much of it. Would definitely like to go back. Maybe the Bluetooth SIG will schedule an event there, or Madrid. They have in the past.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

those seem like good intl meet up cities. both are great in their own way. i could be convinced (pretty easily) to live in either one.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

... is one of my favorite places to travel. i also have some family in Madrid so it makes for a nice trip.

in nerdy banter, all the hostnames of computers in my house are named after Spanish provinces: Andalucia, Navarra, Murcia, etc.
