Ages ago, I read a scifi story about a man who was the last human survivor, rescued from earth by aliens. They created a mate for him from his own genes, just like this latest report. He and the mate went off on his motorcycle and had a good time.
the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite are a similar idea. these are generally shorter, easier hikes from the road and can be done in a few hours and w/ not too much planning.

we are still staying in the area but just at a hotel or airbnb instead of the fun semi-off-the-grid experience.
