Apparently this year's ski season there is EPIC.

I wasn't quite sure because I thought the bottom part of the country didn't quite look like that.

Yesterday on the fourth row I had all five letters but not one in the right spot. Had never done that before.

heyalumnigo's avatar

I don't think that has happened to me either. I would think it would be tough to have that happen regularly.

U-G-L-Y (Giants lose to the Rockies, 13-7)

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/san-francisco-giants-scores-standings/110472/u-g-l-y

With two outs in the 6th, the Rockies up 8-7, Mickey Moniak greeted Reiver Sanmartin, San Francisco’s third pitcher of the inning, with a punched single into left.

One run scored as left fielder Turner Hill overran the ball, allowing Moniak to take second and a second run to race home. The top of the half started with the Rockies in a one-run hole. After that single punctuating a four-score rally, the half-inning ended with them in possession of a commanding lead that would only grow as the game progressed.

My first backpacking experience was as a Cal student, with other Cal students. An amazing Yosemite time.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i did a lot of hiking but never discovered the joy of backpacking until later in life. somehow i feel deprived ...

i took my kids when they we 10-ish yrs old. so i feel like i at least remedied that for the next generation.

still i have had some great trips and experiences.

I recently took both daughters (16 and 13) up into the ADK high peaks to climb Giant Mt. and Rocky Peak Ridge. It started to rain on the top of Giant, so I said it was up to them whether to keep hiking or just head back down. They elected to go onward, which I thought was pretty baller of them.

All in all, it was a 9.5 hour hike with about 5,000 feet of elevation gain. Great day in the peaks.

Our family used to go camping in the Yosemite Valley, usually either Upper or Lower River. Last time I went with No 1, my mom, and sister's family, back around 2021, the campgrounds have changed so much. I think Upper River is gone and most of Lower River. We stayed in one of the Pines campground.

currently we are in NH near the White Mountains and the Presidential Range. we hiked to one of the AMC huts this weekend. they didnt have an space, so we just hiked there and back in a day.

we also caught some excellent views of Mt Washington from the Mt Wash hotel.

Fun fact: the Adirondack Mountain Club abbreviates to ADK and not AMC because the Appalachian Mountain Club got there first and is the oldest outdoor group in these United States (1876).

Sue the AMC movie theaters!

our older one use to say they were "allergic to the outdoors" when they were teenagers. it was mostly a statement that they didnt want to do anything like that w/ mom and dad and would rather be w/ friends in the moment.

as of now. they are perfectly capable and enthusiastic about it. in fact they planning a backpacking trip in the Adirondacks next weekend

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i am not. the kids are.

and in fact to the far drive from Rochester to ADK they are just going to go for long day hikes near the Finger Lakes. sorry to get you all excited.
