National Dog Day

Newellbany's avatar

When you have a dog, every day is dog day. Just ask JimmyChitwood, if he's even able to answer the call between trips to doggy day care.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Especially if you have 2 dogs, like JC does.

We had a couple of dogs. We had 1 about a year or two before No 3 was born. The ex wanted to re-home it before No 3 was born because she didn't want to have to deal with a newborn, a 3 year old, and having to walk the dog to pee and stuff.

In Louisville we had another one from the shelter but gave it up after it snapped at No 3 when No 3 tried to point at the dog's food showing him where it was.

The Paper (9/19 Peacock): The Office spinoff, kinda. Follows a Toledo newspaper trying to survive. The first few episodes haven't been great. Oscar shows up a little bit. Then again, the first bunch of The Office episodes weren't that great. I'll probably give it a few more episodes to see if it gets better.

I remember watching 9 to 5 in the theaters. Probably not super appropriate at that age.

She wrote "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" on the same day. THE SAME DAY.

I think about that once a week.

And was strong enough to stand ground on retention of music rights- hard enough now let alone for a woman back then. I really admire her.

I remember when she was on Porter Wagoner in the 1960s and I paid no attention to her. But over the years I grew to like her a lot.

Valkyries are at the Connecticut Sun tonight.

Newellbany's avatar

The Connecticut Sun is such a silly franchise. They play in the middle of nowhere, Connecticut in a casino arena. It's almost an hour to Hartford, and longer to Springfield, New Haven or Providence - there's nothing near their arena at all.

I don't know who thought it'd be a good idea to put a WNBA team there, but it wasn't - they're moving to Houston.

Wiata78's avatar

Is it true that they were owned by the owners of that casino?

Newellbany's avatar

Yup. The Mohegan tribe has taken some lumps, recently. Most notably, they built a big casino resort in South Korea that didn't go well.

Still, their flagship casino in Uncasville, CT is the nicest, least depressing casino I've ever been in. It's bright and airy, and they seem to draw good crowds for concerts.

(I have to go there a couple times a year for volleyball tournaments and I'll dabble a little bit but I'm not the biggest casino gambler.)

Sounds like they should be The Connecticut Mohegan Sun

Dodgers fall short in opener with Braves (4-3)

Ozzie Albies singled home Matt Olson with two outs in the eighth inning, giving the Atlanta Braves a 4-3 win over the Dodgers in Tuesday night’s series opener at Truist Park. The Dodgers got the tying run on third base with nobody out in the ninth, but couldn’t bring home the equalizer.

As I was getting ready for bed I tuned in. Ohtani got a triple that maybe should have been caught. Then strikeout, groundout, fly out.

[MSOC] Morrison Tabbed ACC Defensive Player Of The Week

https://calbears.com/news/2026/8/25/mens-soccer-morrison-tabbed-acc-defensive-player-of-the-week

California men's soccer defender Beau Morrison was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday, August 25.

Morrison played a pivotal role in securing the shutout against No. 6 Portland on the road. The junior from Sacramento enforced tremendous goal line clearance to hold the Pilots scoreless, a team that scored over 40 goals during the 2025 season.
