In the latest California Monthly, Amelia S. Marshall ‘80 wrote that every Thursday at 3:55 pm, an unescorted basset hound would take the Evans Hall elevator to a 4 pm coffee hour to take advantage of the salami and cheese offereings.
Amelia wonders if anyone recalls the name of this basset hound? And suggests that the Evans Hall replacement be named after said pooch.
Reminds me of when Metallica sued their own fans. What a great way to tell the world your game is filled with entitled pricks and push people even further away from a withering sport.
There was a time that was absolutely true. But then they killed baseball.
I'm not just saying that because I was an A's fan (although that's the reason I don't watch baseball anymore). It's that I haven't heard anyone say a peep about the playoffs this year, just as I didn't hear anyone talking about the pennant chase or magic numbers or any of the stuff that people used to talk about all the time.
I hear a lot of people talking about the NFL, college football, the NBA, and even some people mention hockey. But I haven't heard anyone talk about baseball at all. It feels dead.
It's still lovely to go to a baseball game on a nice summer day and have a hot dog and a beer, so I'd bet attendance is fine. But I don't know anyone that watches the World Series unless their own team is in it. And what's new recently is that I don't even hear people talking about their own team during the playoffs.
I'm guessing NYY-BOS is the primetime west coast matchup because it's the marquee matchup of the WC round and most people are tuning in and rooting for a meteor. SD-CHC is the lone west coast team so they get the late night matchup.
And it probably wouldn't be fair to make teams play late then early the next day.
Looks like the seedings are done without regard to conferences. Washington is playing Atlanta in the first round. They finished first and second in the east but were fourth and fifth when seeded without regard to conference.

not sure why ATL-PHL series is so early in the day. 200p start today after the early start yesterday.
on the other hand BOS-NYY at 800p both nights.
not complaining. at least it gives me some daytime TV watching now that cycling season is winding down.
wait, they still play baseball?
October baseball is the best.

Fever even up series. I only turned it on at the end just in time to see Clark foul out. the game was mostly won by then
NY Liberty take out #1 seed. first time that #8 beats a #1 seed in WNBA history.

I think there aren’t enough teams to do by conference.
Liberty had a strong finish in the last several weeks of the regular season. Lynx, meanwhile, had hit their ceiling.
