HeyStudentsBears's avatar

Ah, that's right. In fairness, you're hard to keep up with!

F1 has a change of the guard. F1 was dominated by Schumacher, then Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, and then lately Max Verstappen. Verstappen was unstoppable until Lando Norris beat him out in 2025. Now there is a new king. It's now Kimi Antonelli, who just turned 20 and won the Austin Grand Prix by over 13 seconds. His first entry was 16 months ago and now he seems to be the new king.

W's finally win one

Lendeborg has 31 points, 12 rebounds as Warriors earn 1st win of season by beating Nuggets 134-114

Played well. Spread the ball around and actually made shots. Landeborg is aggressive and goes at the defender with fairly polished moves and either makes a tough shot or gets fouled and makes his foul shots. He is who the Warriors hoped Kuminga would've become. Hmm...maybe it's good to draft a 4 year successful college player instead of someone with potential...

Seems like Dak and the Cowboys play their best when expectations are low

Having lost two straight to fall to 2-4, Prescott helped make sure the streak ended, throwing three touchdown passes in the Cowboys' 38-21 win.

Brewers up 3-0. does not look as if anything in going to stop Benny the Brewer this year.

They are a team of destiny. Was good all year, but took it to another level. Let's see if they become the Blue Jays and drop off next year or keep it going. I think they'll keep it going. Maybe not to the same level, but won't miss the playoffs. Afterall, for 2 years in a row, they had the best record in the MLB.

Star Trek - all versions

Newellbany's avatar

HSB, one of those times you're driving up to Burlington, stop by the original Star Trek set tour in Ticonderoga. https://startrektour.com/

You can sit in the captain's chair of the Enterprise. Like, the actual chair from the original set.

this looks fun

i did not realize so much thought went into the attractiveness of the Star Trek cast.

Ensign Pavel Chekov — who arrived at the beginning of the show’s second season, in the fall of 1967 — was conceived as a solution to a demographic problem. Gene Roddenberry, the creator of “Star Trek,” had been told that young viewers considered the show’s leads, William Shatner (Captain Kirk) and Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock), who were both 35 when the series began, practically middle-aged.

So Chekov was positioned as a younger type — Mr. Koenig was 30 when he was cast — complete with a mop-top haircut that the producers hoped would remind adolescent girls of Davy Jones of the Monkees, the popular TV-generated rock band.

Tangentially related, but...

I am of the opinion that the Monkees are the most underrated American rock and roll band of all time. Yes, they were formed through casting like so many boy bands throughout pop history, but they quickly exerted more creative control and they ended up producing hit after hit after hit.

I became a fan of the Monkees when I started exploring the Bakersfield branch of country music, championed most successfully by Dwight Yoakam. He plays them a lot on his XM channel.

ST IV was one of my favorites too, of the movies that.

Of the “Star Trek” movies in which he appeared, released between 1979 and 1994, he considered “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” (1986) “the best film we did,” he told Yahoo Entertainment in 2016. A time-travel story centered on recovering whales from the 20th century to save Earth from certain doom some 300 years later, it represented, Mr. Koenig said, Mr. Roddenberry’s vision of telling “sociopolitical stories that spoke to what was happening in the world at the time.”

In that film, Chekov was interrogated by F.B.I. agents who were curious about his Russian accent and his phaser, and he confused San Franciscans by asking where the “nuclear wessels” were kept.
