Cal football does not have a P5 opponent for the 2025 season on 9/6 (8/30: UNLV home, 9/13: @ SDSU). Only Maryland, Rutgers, Northwestern, and Tennessee don't have a P5 opponent. If Cal had to pick one, who would you want to play against? And would your answer change if it's an away game?
I'll gladly vote for Maryland as an away game since it's a relatively short drive. Otherwise, I don't really have strong opinions. Pass on Northwestern since they were the most recent of those opponents. Rutgers is not particularly interesting other than the nostalgia of that 2001 pillowfight. Playing an SEC school is always welcome, so I wouldn't mind seeing the Bears face Tennessee again.
It doesn't really. But they added Maryland and Rutgers to expand their footprint to the east. And Maryland wanted the money from the Big 10 Network. At least that's how I read it.
a strange English dessert. i tried making a gooseberry fool once. i think it turned out ok. but nothing memorable. i also not the biggest fan of English custard like my London-born wife is.
@tarahaelle: A stunning *management and processes error* ruined a lot of 15 million doses. FTFY. (If a couple employees are in a position to make an error w these large ramifications, it’s not them that’s the problem. It’s the system.)
It's both. The scale of the problem is a control failure, but it's incumbent on the employees not to fuck up what they're doing. If they didn't understand what they were doing from the jump, they should have said something. The folks working on the production lines aren't ones who should be sweating about their jobs though.
TIL: Coastal Carolina used to be a two-year community college associated with Charleston College. Then it switched and became affiliated with the University of South Carolina in 1960. During that time, they were known as USC Coastal Carolina College and their mascot was the Trojans. So... the other USC Trojans. In the mid-60s, the school voted to change their mascot (Chanticleers) to be more in line with their parent USC's Gamecock's mascot. In 1974, USCCC became a four-year institution. In 1993, it became independent of USC and changed its name to Coastal Carolina University. And this is why there are two public schools with mascots named after chickens in the Palmetto State.
UAlbany cancels the rest of the spring football season due to injuries. Team was 1-3 and it doesn't get easier because their first game in the fall season (9/4/21) is against #2 North Dakota State.
That's technically not true for most people, because I think an overwhelming percentage of people predicted Gonzaga vs Baylor in the final. By the way, in my most important bracket this year (which I spent less time filling out than most years), I will apparently win out of ~70 people if Zags beat Baylor.
its on a different level of bitter. And the Tech AD press conference is pretty astounding too. Apparently Beard didn't give Tech an opportunity to counter among other gems. Soooooo, guess he didn't want to be there any more?
No he isn't. But right now there aren't any UNC coaching tree guys that are doing well. Wes Miller is probably doing the best at a highish profile school UNC Greensboro. I did forget about King Rice, a PG from the mid to late 80s i think. He's at Monmouth and doing a pretty good job there. So maybe he'll be looked at as well. Other than that it may be one of the current asst coaches to keep the seat warm.
I'm sure Carolina wants to keep it in-house, but I don't know if there is someone ready to take over. Don't want a Matt Doherty situation again. Stackhouse hasn't been great at Vandy. Wes Miller has done a pretty good job at UNC Greensboro but probably needs a few more years. Maybe let one of the assistant coaches take over for a few years like they did with Bill Gutheridge.
Scott Drew would be interesting an interesting pick. On TarHeelBlog they said maybe Brad Stevens since his contract is about up.
That why I wonder if they'll hire one of the assistants as head coach for a few years to see how they do or if one of the other Carolina guys has more seasons under their belt. After some of the rumored grumbling this year by the players I wonder if the will go outside of the program. Someone that understand the Carolina way but doesn't have the history of it.
Yeah that was crazy. Not much Bellinger could do. Turner ran back to 1st. Even if Bellinger ran all the way back to 1st it wouldn't have been enough unless he could've gotten Turner's attention and get him back around.
They had some bad defensive plays that gave the Rockies a few runs. Betts and Taylor misplaying fly balls and Seager with the error. Kershaw also could've maybe gotten a double play had he let the bunt drop.
Also the home plate umpire was all over the place. Evenly for both teams.
What sucks about the new 2 or 4 pod tickets is that I can't just get 1 ticket. I want to go to the Wed day Dodgers/A's game. The ticket website won't let me buy just 1. I wonder if they'll have ticket offices open at the Coliseum. I doubt it, otherwise I wonder if I walked up I could buy just 1 ticket. They'll have plenty available and won't sell out.
Bill Walton making the world look like fools with the disrespect of the Pac 12. UCLA in the Final Four like are you kidding me although they will probably get railed by Gonzaga.

Do we have to pick from those four? Without any restrictions, I would like to see Cal play Wisconsin, Michigan, or Florida State.
Tennessee. It's always an adventure playing an SEC school.
Maryland, not because I want to, but only because I'd rather not play the other three. TN is my second choice.
I'll gladly vote for Maryland as an away game since it's a relatively short drive. Otherwise, I don't really have strong opinions. With Florida and Auburn on future schedule, I wouldn't mind playing an ACC team in Maryland

Oh haha ok.
That doesn't make any sense though

A fool is an English dessert. Traditionally, fruit fool is made by folding pureed stewed fruit (classically gooseberries) into sweet custard
on the hill sees the sun going down,
and the eyes in his head see the world spinning 'round
someone who is soon separated from his money

We can always create a conspiracy theory. Like, they forgot to insert the Bill Gates nano-mind-controllers in that batch.
Curious what you guys think of this take (emphasizing a process error rather than a human error):

That does seem to be the fix they are focusing on, so yeah.
Wow. That would have been enough doses to vaccinate the entire Maryland-DC-Virginia region.
That was an expensive error on a number of levels that we did not need.

Bill Walton’s bracket doesn’t make sense, and is still better than yours because the Pac-12 is killing it

Love how he chose 5 teams for the Final Four.

By the way, in my most important bracket this year (which I spent less time filling out than most years), I will apparently win out of ~70 people if Zags beat Baylor.
I win if Houston beats Baylor - currently in third place and the two teams ahead have Baylor vs Gonzaga and I have the Cougars.
Chris Beard leaves Texas Tech for Texas
New spot for Sonny?
this is basketball
oh
I think he's happy where he is.
Now TT has its version of Tosh Lupoi
well, Beard is a Texas alum and was an assistant under Penders so not a perfect analogy. Lot of bitterness in Lubbock right now though
By the viciousness of my Twitter feed, you'd think Beard committed a capital crime
its on a different level of bitter. And the Tech AD press conference is pretty astounding too. Apparently Beard didn't give Tech an opportunity to counter among other gems. Soooooo, guess he didn't want to be there any more?
Well, this is kind of like a Cal head coach taking the equivalent position at Stanford.
I mean if someone hires Jarod Haase away, Mark Fox is more than welcome to take the Furd job. I'd be over at his house helping him pack.
This was a no brainer for Beard. Personally, I hope Tosh Lupoi gets gonorrhea.

Roy Williams retires as UNC basketball coach.
https://goheels.com/news/2021/4/1/mens-basketball-test-release.aspx
My prediction; Baylor coach Scott Drew goes there.
Is he a part of the Dean Smith coaching tree? I think UNC will definitely look down that coaching tree first.
Wes Miller's name is by far the most mentioned. Hubert Davis is second.
Should be Jerry Stackhouse but I think he wants to go NBA
I'm sure Carolina wants to keep it in-house, but I don't know if there is someone ready to take over. Don't want a Matt Doherty situation again. Stackhouse hasn't been great at Vandy. Wes Miller has done a pretty good job at UNC Greensboro but probably needs a few more years. Maybe let one of the assistant coaches take over for a few years like they did with Bill Gutheridge.
Scott Drew would be interesting an interesting pick. On TarHeelBlog they said maybe Brad Stevens since his contract is about up.
Has Rasheed started coaching yet? Or maybe Michael Finley? Sam Perkins?
Stackhouse may get a shot, not due to his time at Vandy but being the G-League Coach of the year or something to that effect.
Stackhouse needed to be better in Nashville, so now it's wide open.
As long as Scott Drew hasn't picked up any of the scum that we've been hearing about with Baylor.
Scott Drew is filthy... no way UNC hires him
