EDSBS Charity Bowl Update

$370,000 total

https://twitter.com/newampaths/status/1382465629261852673?s=20

Cal is currently in 13th with $5692 - Nam Le has an anonymous donor who will match donations up to $2,000 so if you donate, please tag him (@aguynamednam) in a tweet so he can get it on the board.

NC State is 10th at $6172, so we're not that far out of the top ten, and Notre Dame is reachable at $7473/8th Place.

Not that you'll be using twitter, but g.oso and I got your account unblocked by Nam. He thought his students were trolling him.

Nam reached the goal with $2200+ & counting, coupled with the matching $2k, should jump Cal to top ten.

I think it's funny that they are trying to shame SC alumni into donating like we've exhibited any shame ever

Another case of trying to apply one set of values to a group who does not have those values. Amazing how often that is attempted, given it has essentially no chance of working.

Does he mean from this point forward or if we already did donate?

It was today. But all monies are good. Special shout-out to Scootie for getting everything started on day 1

.. lasagna is an amazing thing.

we first had it in a tiny Ligurian village where we stayed for a week, Apricale.

Liguria is the province where most of the olive oil in Italy comes from and they are famous for (Genovese or Ligurian) pesto.

I haven't had that, we had roasted veggie lasagna on Sunday, very tasty.

I used to have a tenant named Sandy, or nick-named I guess. Good guy until he hooked up with this woman, then he became the professional protester with the white van (hers). Eventually moved out to rural Oregon, tried to sneak in some friends of his into the unit, claiming he was subletting for 6 months, but I knew what his game was.

MLB testing moving the mound back a foot.

"Strikeouts were out of control. Changes in pitching techniques had resulted in batters swinging and missing like never before. To fix the problem, leading minds focused on the center of the diamond. The pitcher would have to move back.

The goal: “the restoration of the proper equilibrium between the two great principles of the game — attack and defense. With the pitcher reduced to the ranks, nine men instead of two will play the game.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/14/sports/baseball/pitchers-mound-atlantic-league.html

So said Francis Richter, the editor of the weekly Sporting Life, as quoted by the author Peter Morris in “A Game of Inches,” his book on the innovations that shaped baseball. Richter’s column ran in November 1892, but the words apply almost exactly to the modern game.

Major League Baseball believes that the product on the field is in crisis. The league’s declaration on Wednesday confirmed it: Starting in the second half of the season, the independent Atlantic League — in partnership with M.L.B. — will move its mounds back by a foot. This is not like putting a runner on second base in extra innings or making the bases a little bigger. This is fundamental."

Giants shut out the Reds? Giants shut out the Reds!

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2021/4/14/22384473/san-francisco-giants-reds-recap-johnny-cueto-austin-slater

I hope you’re happy, Rob Manfred. If quick baseball games are what you want, then quick baseball games are what you get, as the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds finished theirs in what felt like a shorter amount of time than Tuesday’s first inning.

That makes sense, given how there were five fewer runs scored than in Tuesday’s first inning.

The Giants beat the Reds 3-0, which can only mean one thing (well it can technically mean a lot things, but ... you know what, not going there again today; the bit is old): The Giants shut out the Reds.

Cueto has been superb in two straight games. However, he hurt himself and took himself out of the game. It was later described as "lat tightness".

GBBR, as the Dodgers continue to roll and get to 10-2 behind homers from JT and Zach MacKinstry. Also Kenley looks to. have fixed what was bothering him in game 1. (I still don't like him as the closer though. He's 3-4mph down from 2017/18.)

Expand full comment

GBBR. Kenley was sitting 95 with lots of cut on Sun. Yesterday back down to 92 on his 2 seamer and 90 on the cutter. Some people on TBLA guessed maybe he was using Bauer's stuff on Sun to get the cutter to work so well.
