Turned over truck (semi) with a body under the cab on the 57 heading north from Diamond Bar

I think I already told this on the DBD. Driving home on a four-lane divided boulevard and I'm just about to turn into my road. I hear and then see an old pick-up truck accelerating as fast as it can go on the opposite side of the boulevard. For an instant, I'm thinking it is red-neck racing. But it only takes a fraction of a second to see that the path is not straight or controlled. Someone has passed out at the wheel with their foot on the accelerator.

It is about a quarter-mile away. It hits the outside sidewalk, veers back the other way, swipes a car, launches into the air when it hits the center divide, tears through some bushes, lands in my lane coming directly toward me head-on. There is another car in front of me, so I'm checking to see what they will do while I measure my own options to where to swerve but decide that I'm going to go wherever the car in front goes.

But the car in front of me doesn't swerve. It crashes head on into the truck, the front end disintegrating and the whole engine block being torn from the car. The cab of the car comes to a halt. I stop my car, grab my first aid kit (which I keep in my car after watching another car accident a few weeks earlier) and run to the BMW. The crumple zone worked marvelously. The engine and the whole front of the car is gone, but the cab is nearly intact... the windows only cracked. This is the moment I dreaded because I don't want to be looking at brains or intestines smeared everywhere.

When you arrive at a car accident, the first thing you notice is the car bags go off and there is a cloud of desiccant that looks like flour everywhere. You can even see in the windows the cloud is so thick. It looks like smoke, but it isn't. The driver comes out dazed, covered in powder. I pry open the back seat and help out her son, who is also dazed/powdered but otherwise unhurt. The woman looks into the backseat and sees she freaks out even though her son is fine.

MY MOTHER! MY MOTHER! OH GOD MY MOTHER. DON'T LET MY MOTHER DIE!

I peer in. The mother used to be in the backseat, but was thrown through the seat and under the crumpled dash, where she's wedged because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

This is the part that made me angry. People gladly stopped, took out their phones, and took pictures, but did nothing.

"YOU!!!", I yelled at lady across the street who I've locked eyes on, "CALL 911"

I start pointing and yelling, telling people to take care of the hysterical woman, one to accompany the son and make sure he just lies down, a guy to redirect traffic, a guy to try to pry open the passenger side door. I go run to check on the truck driver.

When you knock out a man cold, they snore. He was snoring short shallow breaths. He is pressed against his wheel because he also wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I figured he was not too badly hurt, so I go back to get to the grandmother.

At this point, the driver's husband shows up. He's crying and starts to scream as he walks toward his wife with his hands on his head. I grab his arm and hiss in his ear "Listen. This is the moment that your wife needs you. You need to be her rock. So pull yourself together and be that person right now." His face instantly changed. He took his hands down. And then calmly spoke with his wife. I am so fucking proud of that guy.

I tried to get the grandmother. I couldn't pry her out and I was afraid to hurt her further. I can still hear that woman's sceams in my head, begging me to not let her mother die. I have to hand it to the police and fire department. They were there in mere minutes.

I don't think I've seen one unfolding. Probably the biggest sinking feeling was driving past a car that had a 200 year old oak land on it (talk about shitty luck) or driving past motorcycle fragments, state troopers looking down into the median, and an ambulance with the lights off (I91 in VT)

Back when my family just moved to the US and lived in Florida, a block outside the apartment complex that we lived at, my family was at a stoplight when a speeding car went by and hit a barrier to an artificial lake. My dad said something about maybe we should go check on the guy but we hesitated for 1-2 minutes. That was quite fortunate because a cop car showed up and a gun shootout occurred. The hesitation saved us from accidentally being human hostages.

Westbound Woodside Road off of 280. A motorcycle passed me and going at a pretty good clip. A car going the opposite direction in front of us was making a u-turn and didn't see the motorcycle coming. The motorcycle couldn't stop in time and ended up t-boning the car. The cyclist flew across the hood of the car and landed about 20-30 feet away. Luckily, he was wearing a helmet and full leathers, but he was still hurt pretty bad. Police came about 2-3 minutes later.

Unfortunately, I was on my way to court for a hearing in Redwood City that didn't turn out too well. The police officer at the scene was very sympathetic and let me go once I gave him my business card. I still don't know what ultimately happened to that guy.

Rough day.

I was a passenger on a bus. We were meeting another oncoming bus that was coming up a slight rise and around a curve. A motorcyclist attempted to pass the other bus coming out of the turn (because of the incline and curve, couldn't see an oncoming bus). The road was also wet, and when the motorcyclist tried to swerve back in behind the other bus, it skidded out from under him. The left front wheel of the bus I was on ran over both the bike and the rider, who was still on it.

Fortunately, the rider survived, though with serious injuries, and a totaled motorcycle. The bus driver was understandably really shook up. He wound up retiring, but my testimony saved him from any responsibility.

I don't recommend getting run over by a bus.

07I've only seen a couple and they weren't very bad at all.

I did almost see someone die if they weren't so lucky. Driving on I-71 from Louisville to Cincy in a midwestern storm and someone hydroplaned into the grass median that was maybe 70 feet wide. The grass dips down maybe 20 feet and then up maybe 30-40 feet into the other direction. The car goes into the grass, driver clearly has no control, goes into the left lane of the other direction with an 18-wheeler bearing down on them. After maybe .5 seconds, the car swerves back into the median and then the truck goes by maybe 1.5-2 seconds later. Guy got lucky his car got traction and was able to swerve into the middle median.

My experiences with my 2 shots and 2 more for another family member are that the clinic time seems to consistently be ~ 1 hour, maybe 1 1/14, considering you have to check in to park, go que up to check in again (quicker if you pre-registered and pre-entered insurance info), then queue up to get your shot (1st & 2nd shots were delivered by different groups, why I'm not sure), and then they had a 15 minute standby in case of immediate reactions, and then exit traffic.

It wasn't the smoothest and quickest process, but that was largely because, like everything, they were WAAAAYYY understaffed (its the American way to do everything), but overall, it was far from the worst experience I've had with large diverse crowd management events.

Arriving early definitely helps, and it was frankly better than I had expected, or hoped.

Yesterday they were taking appointments for today for 16 year olds. Late yesterday they realized that they were switching to J&J for everyone who arrived today. I got an email late yesterday - last night the central help desk thought it was a mistake, this morning they could see the record changes but not what the site had on hand... so I took a chance and went. They had some Pfizer left, so they had all the teenagers re-register as walk-ins and had one pair of nurses administering the shots... plus someone passed out in line... etc. etc. Just took a lot longer than I expected on site. Plus I hadn't been expecting to need to stop on the way home to get some food, and I always forget how bad the backups are on the Bay Bridge coming west.

There were two interesting things that happened in the San Francisco Giants 3-1 loss to the San Diego Padres. Two interesting things if you’re invested in the Giants, that is. If you’re a Padres fan, then go home, you’re either drunk or lost, and yes, more than two interesting things happened for you. Good for you. Whoop-de-freaking-doo.

The first interesting thing that happened is that Brandon Crawford hit a home run. It was a solo home run, naturally, as 90% of the Giants homers this year have been (this is not hyperbole — the Giants have hit 10 home runs, which have scored 11 runs).

It was majestic.

Game #6: A’s lose again, but by less this time

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/4/6/22371259/oakland-as-game-6-los-angeles-dodgers-score-result

At least it wasn’t quite as bad this time. They even held a lead for a few minutes!

The Oakland A’s lost again, for the sixth straight time to open the 2021 season. The score against the Los Angeles Dodgers was only 5-1, which is an improvement over their previous defeats, but moral victories run thin the longer it takes to get a literal win.

The first bright side came in the 1st inning. It took until the sixth game of the year, but for the first time the A’s took a lead — Jed Lowrie and Ramon Laureano hit back-to-back doubles to put Oakland on top 1-0. But that turned out to be all they got for the evening, as three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw was in full form.

https://www.truebluela.com/2021/4/6/22371119/clayton-kershaw-slider-dodgers-home-runs-max-muncy-athletics-recap

The contrast between Clayton Kershaw’s first two starts of 2021 is like night and day, and not just because of the time of game. The Dodgers left-hander was in full control on Tuesday night, pitching seven strong innings in a 5-1 win over the A’s in Oakland.

Though the A’s got to Kershaw right away, with consecutive doubles by Jed Lowrie and Ramon Laureano in the first inning giving Oakland a 1-0 — believe it or not, that was the A’s first lead all season, in their sixth game — that was the high point for the home team on Tuesday.

Working around those doubles, Kershaw struck out three batters in the first, and eight on the night, giving him 2,743 strikeouts in his career in the regular season and postseason combined, surpassing Don Sutton’s 2,739 for the most in Dodgers history.
