A backdoor is a malware type that negates normal authentication procedures to access a system. As a result, remote access is granted to resources within an application, such as databases and file servers, giving perpetrators the ability to remotely issue system commands and update malware.

I've been doing all the Mini Metas (Thanks, TBB!) and got a couple of friends into it. Yesterday we were deciding which word would be part of the meta. And did the same today. See if we can get the answer prior to Saturday.
Anyhoo...I saw the Music Meta a couple of weeks ago ("Title Search"). Solved it, but didn't see any "meta". Went to the FAQ page and saw the 2020 ones. I can dry lab the meta from there, but I never would have figured them out. And am totally out to see with the one I did. Will try the new one and see where it gets me.
I keep doing the rerun Reagle puzzles each week...some of them are (seem?) new to me! Which is surprising, since I have a bunch of his books.
the crossword wasn't too terribly difficult but I'm not sure how it relates to anything musical. Mind you I'm more of a brute force solver so I often miss themes.
I'd like to plug my second novel, Threat of Night, which is about a reporter in Berkeley in 1941 who uncovers a Nazi spy ring. I feel justified using DBD to do so because the protagonist is a former Cal running back and the book includes two scenes at Bear games. One against St. Mary's in which Oski first appears and the other at the '41 Big Game, a Cal upset win. The details in the novel about Cal football are all historically accurate. Indeed I did extensive research in trying to recreate the Berkeley of 1941 and the country in general. Here's a link, and oh by the way, Go Bears!
Yes the main character, like yours truly, was born of Finnish parents. There was a large Finnish American community in Berkeley from the turn of the century into the 1980s.
Mid-80s and dry a couple days ago, thunderstorms yesterday and today, low 60s and overnight lows in the 40s later in the week. The weather is officially in random-number-generator season.
Might hit 90 today. Starting Friday, I'm going to be working from Cape Cod for a couple weeks, where it is now 48. So long dad-shorts. Hello, sweaters and jeans.
My thermometer already says 78 at 10:15 and humidity has made an appearance. Mid-80s or so later. The trail I ran this morning felt about twenty degrees cooler so glad I chose that route today.
my first job out of grad school was trading weather derivatives.
yes, you could actually buy/sell options on the weather being too hot or too cold at specific locations. we did pretty well for a few years because we noticed a discrepancy in how the temperature was measured and effectively exploited an arbitrage.
it was an interesting combo of standard quantitative finance but with the twist that the thing our option was based on was a natural phenomenon that was poorly understood instead of stock price movements which are not understood at all.
up until this point, Cristobal and his staff have been excellent in getting the talent to Eugene but haven't been able to turn it into on-field results. Adding TDR will finally get that talent to produce as expected and will mask whatever shortcomings still exist in the offense.
TDR said that he's going to keep KT standing up and moving all over rather than locked in a 3 point stance. TDR's dynamic movement and disguising of alignment with this personnel scares me.
Kansas state rep gets arrested after he punches/kicks a student in the nuts at his day job as a substitute teacher. He issued a statement and it's everything you could possibly want and a lot more.
The Golden State Warriors needed a win on Monday against the New Orleans Pelicans, for a variety of reasons. They needed a win because they’re fighting desperately to move up in the standings. They needed a win because they’ve been playing poorly lately and need to secure some semblance of rhythm and confidence if they want to be competitive in the postseason. They needed a win because three of their final eight games are against the Pelicans, who serve as the only team with a semi-realistic chance of keeping the Warriors out of the play-in tournament.
They played like they needed a win. Perhaps that shouldn’t be a surprising sentiment, but after the inexcusably lackluster loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, it is.
They played like they needed a win from the opening tip, and they kept the drive even during the moments of the game when their lead began to shrink.
I watched the Marvel broadcast last night. It was better than the Nickelodeon NFL game earlier this year. They had 6 superheroes "draft" players. Steph, Draymond, Wiggins, Zion, Lonzo, and Ingram. They got points based on certain stats. And they had icons over each of the players when they had the ball or were the active defender, when players scored, lightning bolts for dunks, and NBA Jam type flames for 3 point shots. It is what I always thought they should have when Curry goes off from 3. He had a couple of points last night where he made heat check 3s and the NBA Jam type fire was apropos.
BTW, the ESPN broadcast of the Astros at Yankees game tonight will be Star Wars-themed due to it being May the Fourth/Force.
Hooray for more Disney synergy! (I'm actually kind of excited by the idea other than how A-Rod will probably screw this up by making everything about himself).
I liked the Nickelodeon playoff game this winter, but I couldn't get into the Marvel broadcast. Maybe because I don't really follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe, maybe because I thought the graphics took up too much of the screen and obscured too much, but I ended up switching back to the normal broadcast after a couple minutes.
He couldn't throw a strike. None of his breaking pitches were close. All his strikes were fastballs center cut. Hendricks seemed to have a similar issue. Not sure if it's just the weather.
The Oakland A’s have the best record in the American League, and they played like it on Monday.
The A’s came through in every area of the game, earning a tight 5-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in their series opener at the Coliseum. And for the second straight day, the winning drive was a go-ahead homer off the bat of Ramon Laureano.
\After the high of their 13-game win streak in mid-April, Oakland’s lineup went cold for a week. They scored just 15 runs over their next seven contests, five of them losses. But they began to heat back up Sunday in their 7-5 victory over the Orioles, and they kept it up tonight against the Jays.
Did someone yesterday post about this? Can't find it.

Um, if this was important, wouldn't you check that first, before applying?
I feel like he probably had a lot of other pressing concerns, given that he was applying from a refugee camp in Kenya.

Reading Shigeru Mizuki's Manga account of Japan's Showa period, really good, different perspective on the period. Halfway though the second volume.
you should read this book about Berkeley Nazis, which isn't stretch when you consider some of the actual people who live in Berkeley
A FB post on my s-i-l page led me to see that Oakland was first incorporated on May 4, 1852. So happy birthday Oakland.

Berkeley Nazis? Not too off from some of the actual inhabitants
Congratulations!
Interesting. I'll have to pick up a copy.
The sample seems to suggest there might be some tie ins to Finnishness. That would be interesting.
Yes the main character, like yours truly, was born of Finnish parents. There was a large Finnish American community in Berkeley from the turn of the century into the 1980s.
I happened to spend a night in Helsinki on the way back from Russia, but never got to know the city or country. Always wanted to.
Nazis? I hate those guys!
Especially Illinois Nazis.
Ordered. The story sounds pretty cool.

71 and mostly sunny today, then 80 tomorrow, but then dropping to the high 50s with showers the rest of the week. Full-on spring time variance.

79 the high today. Looks like mid to high 70s for the next 10 days except for Thurs which is 67.
Supposed to be 77 today and sunny, partly cloudy tomorrow in the 60's as the marine layer returns.

What's your plan to seduce Bill Gates?
Is backdooring involved?
I'll show him a desktop email client that doesn't crash a dozen times per day.
I know that sincere replies are the death of humor but I'd bet that was a plugin rather than Outlook. I would not bet much on that though.
apparently he had an agreement with melinda where he could spend a weekend away with an ex girlfriend every year.
Is Melinda also available?
I'm going to show him my Clippy tattoo

I don't recall exactly but I think we neutralized him in our 2020 Oregon victory.
he's going to be a menace this year in TDR's system
Agreed, but IIRC Curhan held his own against him quite well in 2020 (as SGBear said).
up until this point, Cristobal and his staff have been excellent in getting the talent to Eugene but haven't been able to turn it into on-field results. Adding TDR will finally get that talent to produce as expected and will mask whatever shortcomings still exist in the offense.

and another 40 pt night for Steph and triple double for Draymond
Draymond won the Marvel scoring title by one after they went back and gave him an additional assist during a late TO.

with those two teams? hard fucking pass
I'm just curious to see what they do for the Star Wars theme. Dodgers 2nd game of the double header should be around the same time as this game.
I don't follow the Marvel stuff either. It was interesting for a game.
Giants and the Dodgers rained out yesterday. Dodgers and Giants both play two today.
The Giants? You mean the team with the MLB's best winning percentage? Farhan Zaidi (UC Berkeley - PhD Economics 2011) for President.
That's two days in a row that the Dodgers did not lose.
They are not starting out well today. Turned on the TV while I had lunch and Kershaw has given up four in the first and still only one out.
He couldn't throw a strike. None of his breaking pitches were close. All his strikes were fastballs center cut. Hendricks seemed to have a similar issue. Not sure if it's just the weather.
