Although I've come around on Guy Fieri (I was too judgmental about the 90s bro look, and now I read that he's actually a cool dude), and although I agree that we should reconsider Columbus as a name/hero, I don't know that I can sign on for Flavortown.
"By going against the code of war, the Chinese, in a single night, have made India reset its relationship. The rage is unprecedented. A prominent Ladakhi educationist, Sonam Wangchuk, told me, “China is a rogue nation, ethically, politically and morally; the boycott needs to start now."
Not 100% sure this is the complete story, but I wouldn't be surprised either.
It reads like way too much testosterone and new troops arriving and the old Chinese commander being assigned elsewhere? I think oftentimes rival troops still know each other - the biggest example I can think of is the Waggah-Attari gate on the Pakistan/India border.
Everyone have a lovely time at the Tulsa MAGA rally? It appears that putting a legal disclaimer about the 'rona on the ticket form caused people not to show up.
I don't think you can credit the Tik Tok folks for the small crowds, because it's not like they were taking up seats that couldn't be refilled. The thing was way overbooked, so if anyone wanted to show up they could have.
You can give them some credit for making the Trump campaign boast about their numbers and then look foolish when the crowd was small.
"President Trump and several staff members stood backstage and gazed at the empty Bank of Oklahoma Center in horror.
Mr. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had canceled plans at the last minute to speak at an outdoor overflow rally that was almost entirely empty, despite claims of nearly one million people registering for tickets to attend the event in Tulsa, Okla., and the president’s false boast of never having an empty seat at one of his events.
The president, who had been warned aboard Air Force One that the crowds at the arena were smaller than expected, was stunned, and he yelled at aides backstage while looking at the endless rows of empty blue seats in the upper bowl of the stadium, according to four people familiar with what took place. Brad Parscale, the campaign manager who had put the event together, was not present."
KBO's Kiwoom Heroes signed Addison Russell. Not sure how I feel about that. So...Kiwoom's signing wife beater Russell and serially drunk driving Kang Jung Ho...
something from the NY Times on Fri. i cant figure out why there are fraternity rush parties in mid-Jun?
And in Mississippi, state officials said several cases had been tied to fraternity rush parties in Oxford, home to the University of Mississippi. More than 80 percent of new cases in Oxford involved people 18 to 24.
New cases are definitely skewing younger in several states, which is why the death rate is also going down while infections are staying steady or going up.
At the risk of being cold hearted, this also will help to clarify what percentage of young people don’t “bounce back,” because that population of “didn’t die but permanently damaged” is worrisome
yeah...there was this story in the korean newspaper last week...so this one family, grandma got it and died, dad got it and died, mom got and recovered but now needs a lung transplant to survive...
Shit. I saw a picture of the lung that was removed from a young woman who needed a transplant post Covid and it looked like bad meatloaf. Which, even to a non expert, seems like a bad thing for a lung to look like

Some amazing spring semester grades coming from Cal Football, including 32 guys with a 4.0 GPA. https://twitter.com/CalRecruiting/status/1275082988837953537
I never got above a 3.6 in any semester. Even with easier classes.
I never played football. Or any other college sports.
The entire NASCAR garage just pushed Bubba Wallace's car out to the front of the grid at Talladega. Performative, but touching nonetheless. I hope NASCAR remains committed to this. https://twitter.com/NFL_DovKleiman/status/1275144618892500992
ESPN's Marty Smith had a great response last night.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t realized that Bubba Wallace is Black. Obviously I don’t pay that much attention to NASCAR 😬
Or you just don't pay attention to things that don't impact performance. Which is the way it should be.
No, it really is not paying attention to NASCAR. I only learn any NASCAR news from twitter and never click through.
If someone doesn't get fired, and publicly shamed, then it nothing has changed.

FATHER'S DAY
Went to a demonstration march, made some blackberry and strawberry jam.
Got some amazing Thai food for dinner and was left to watch the Merseyside derby in peace.
Stayed home all day and didn't speak with my father, as per usual.
family hike and steamed lobsters at home for dinner.
I had a great dinner and a naked cake.
CRUMBLING DEMOCRACY
Everyone have a lovely time at the Tulsa MAGA rally? It appears that putting a legal disclaimer about the 'rona on the ticket form caused people not to show up.
Tik tok has been claiming credit
I like how they're claiming Tik Tok users and Kpop fans are all foreign actors...
I think it's a combo. the way overage of the crowd estimate was all tiktok'ers. But not getting 20K Maga's in Tulsa? that's something else.
I don't think you can credit the Tik Tok folks for the small crowds, because it's not like they were taking up seats that couldn't be refilled. The thing was way overbooked, so if anyone wanted to show up they could have.

This article from Politico does a pretty good job of winnowing down what the truly expected - and it wasn't 20K.

exactly. That would concern me, if I were working towards trump2020. a few things to investigate for them:
- Were the Maga's scared off by the protestors factor?
- Are people just not interested in rally's?
- did the disclaimer/liability release turn people off?
- Are people taking the whole social distance/virus protection seriously (regardless of what you see in the news)?
Yes. require a disclaimer but then say Covid-19 is going away.

I enjoyed his sad walk off Marine One when he got back to DC. He looked quite down in the dumps.
