I'm looking for flights back from TCU. I hadn't purchased my return trip because I wasn't sure if I was going to go to Philly or not. I think I'm coming straight back and can either do a United non-stop for 167 or a short 1 stop through Denver which would only make it about 1.5 hour longer for about 125.

Then I noticed that the plane from Denver to SFO is a 737 Max-9 and I'm thinking I'm not comfortable flying on Max-9s so I'll spend the extra 40 to go non-stop. Even if it weren't a Max-9 I think I'd spend the extra 40 for the non-stop flight.

i thought you were going to apply for some job to learn to fly those things??!!

I wish. I was interested in the United thing where they're starting a school to teach pilots but I think I'm going to be too old. I'd be forced to retire in 14 years anyways.

I lost my friend at the Holiday Bowl vs. Texas A&M. We had moved down right in front of the Cal band to watch the end of the game. When the clock hit 00:00 I turned to give a high five and he was gone. After a minute I get a call from my mom saying "I think [your friend] just got arrested". Turns out he thought rushing the field in a blowout victory in bowl game was a good idea.

He was released from San Diego County Jail around 3am and made it back to our hotel very early in the AM to tell me the tale. Spoiler alert, he got the full county jail check in experience. Luckily at the end of the day he took the case to court and got the fine reduced to ~$40 and dropped to infraction.

He had jumped down from the corner where there is a ~10ft+ drop to the field, which spawned my favorite quote from the experience that happened between my mom and sister. Apparently after seeing him jump down, run on to the field and then get tackled my mom looked back at the stands and asked my sister "Wow, how high was that wall that he jumped from?!?" to which my sister answered "I guess not tall enough to break his legs"

In 5, 4, 3, 2… “iCarly” is back and cringier than ever (in a good way)

https://vanderbilthustler.com/40980/featured/in-5-4-3-2-icarly-is-back-and-cringier-than-ever-in-a-good-way/

Teen sitcoms in the late 2000s were revolutionary in their time. Never before did a market exist for studios to produce television for that ambiguous age group between millennials and Gen Z, and these unique circumstances led to a truly unique product.

This means I can say with 100 percent seriousness (okay, 99) that shows like “iCarly,” “Hannah Montana” and “Good Luck Charlie” were genuine trailblazers. They adapted the beloved sitcom format to a new audience in a new era, and they did so with finesse and charm, birthing a new generation of humor as the world transitioned onto the fledgling internet. I mean, come on—when “iCarly” premiered in 2007, YouTube hadn’t even celebrated its second birthday yet. Show creator Dan Schneider, for all his faults, must have had a vision of the feeture. Oops, I mean future.

But as happens at the end of every golden age, Carly Shay signed off for the last time in 2012, and we would never get more webshow content from our favorite fictional influencer-from-before-there-was-a-term-for-it—or so we thought.

Did a late Father's Day weekender with the family down to Solvang and worked our way back north. Every time I go down there, I am reminded that Solvang is a cute, if a bit touristy, gem of a California town. Stopped in Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles before getting home. It was 107 when we stopped at Firestone Walker Brewery to check it out. Wonderful!

Clayton Kershaw’s slider confounds Cubs in 13-strikeout win

https://www.truebluela.com/2021/6/27/22553318/clayton-kershaw-strikeouts-slider-zach-mckinstry-grand-slam-cody-bellinger-dodgers-cubs

Clayton Kershaw stuck with his best pitch, and was backed by a pair of early home runs in the Dodgers’ third straight win, 7-1 over the Cubs on Sunday night at Dodger Stadium.

Kershaw struck out a season-best 13 batters on Sunday, his highest regular season strikeout total in four years. The first six strikeouts, and 10 of the 13, ended on Kershaw’s slider, his most used effective weapon.

In at-bats that end on a Kershaw slider in 2021, opponents are hitting .181 (39-for-216) with 93 strikeouts. It’s no wonder he throws the pitch 47 percent of the time, including 49 of his 101 pitches on Sunday. The Cubs were 0-for-13 in at-bats ending with a slider on Sunday, and had trouble picking it up all game.

Game #80: A’s avoid Bay Bridge Series sweep behind Cole Irvin gem

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2021/6/27/22553187/oakland-as-game-80-san-francisco-giants-score-result

The Oakland A’s lost the first two games of the 2021 Bay Bridge Series despite good efforts from their starting pitchers, so in Sunday’s finale the rotation dialed it up another notch.

The A’s got eight shutout innings from starter Cole Irvin en route to a 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The win avoided a sweep at Oracle Park and gave most of Oakland’s bullpen a desperately needed rest.

The A’s wasted no time getting started this afternoon. Two of their first three batters reached base, on singles by Elvis Andrus and Matt Olson, and then they pulled a double-steal to move into scoring position. Matt Chapman followed with a sharp single to knock them both home for a quick 2-0 lead.

I got home in time to see the bottom of the ninth. You didn't feel like the Giants were coming all the way back but it was not a great inning for the A's.

I fear speed may not reveal itself until 2022...we don't seem to have much of it on the roster right now, do we?

Remigio seems to be more of a possession guy, but then again he had both a KR TD and a punt return TD called back against OSU. Not sure if that classifies as elite speed, however (probably not).

It's not solely on the WR's either...don't wanna make too much of the absolute dogshi! COVID-2020 year, but Garbers is rather conservative as a passer, which limits turnovers, but also big plays. Sure, there's no DeSean on this roster, but plenty of teams out there make big plays in the passing game despite a lack of NFL talent at the skill positions.

UCLA 9-3

ASU 7-6

UW 10-2 (SureJan.gif)

Oregon 10-2

The math doesn't add up:

a) missing WSU: project 3-10

b) WSU can't go 3-10 because they have a 12 game season. They're actually talking about 3-9.

c) ASU can't go 7-6, again 12 game season. They're actually projecting them to go 6-6.

d) the conference has to add up to the same amount of wins and losses. It doesn't. They have 55 wins and 53 losses.

Vegas over/under is 6, trending to the under.

If they can grasp & execute Musgrave’s O even somewhat effectively, they should hit 7 wins, maybe 8 w/ a bowl...but (@g.oso, I believe) made a good point - until the Cal football team finds a way to eliminate the inevitable “cough-up” & “completely shit the bed” games, betting on more than 7 wins is dicey...

At U of A has a good chance of being our cough up game, as you can just see Wilcox sitting on a lead and letting a lesser opponent hang around...that's our house of horrors and they figure to be awful so while they'll maybe scare some other teams, the 'Cats will put it all together for Cal. Hoping that nasty taste in the mouth from @ Corvallis last season will get a win v. those dirty, pesky Beavers, tho.

However, if the Bears show signs of even competent, average play on the offensive side, we could win both, as we should...toss in the home tilt v COL, and suddenly 8-4 seems legitimately possible. 10/23-11/6 could define the season.

Apparently, Musgrave's kids went 3 & out on an unimaginable 40-some odd % (42?) of their drives last year, tho...no more of that, please.

Back from Baltimore Recap: 12 days of a lovely break that I wish I could do again

My takeoff day on June 12th was chaos, with American Airlines f'ing up boarding passes since they changed aircrafts overnight for the flight to Charlotte and the seat alignment was messed up. Left SFO 15 mins late, landed 30 mins early just in front of the predicted monsoon I was worried about. The plane coming to CLT(tried Bojangles chicken for the first time here) enroute to Baltimore was coming from Fort Myers, FL, where Florida weather took over and delayed the plane like 3.5 hours on takeoff. After a gate change, they reroute our inbound aircraft to one flying in from Jamaica, not realizing that crew we needed was on the Fort Myers plane...so by the time they realize it that crew overstayed their stint time so we needed a new flight crew for the plane to BWI. Scheduled for 6:45pm and left at 10:30pm and landed in Baltimore at 11:40pm, almost to the point where I was going to tell my family pick me up in the morning since it was late and they live 30 minutes away with no traffic.

Once I got there: Tried Korean BBQ for the first time in Catonsville, watched my Toronto Blue Jays get completely shit on 7-1 by the damn Orioles (fire Charlie Montoyo btw), visited Towson square and got my first bit of liquor on the trip. Went to Fells Point and the Inner Harbor and bought satirical socks from the Sound Garden record store. Also saw that Under Armour's HQ was right across the water so I visited that campus along with heading to graffiti alley in Baltimore (kind of in a bad part of town) . None of that topples my experience in Philly however, where my family and I stumbled into tickets at the box office an hour before the Nats-Phillies game and ended up seeing Max Scherzer pitch and the infamous check by Girardi and the staredown and ejection that followed. Not to mention it was a good ass game (albeit long) and got my first two authentic philly cheesesteaks (also wore a Denver Nuggets mask to draw dirty looks and get Embiid people in their feelings but it surprisingly did not work).

Way home: Got in the security line at BWI around 6:15AM for a 8:15AM flight, family in front had 7 people (none of which knew what in the hell they were doing) but luckily TSA opened a new line starting with me. Got to the gate at 6:50AM and even left BWI for CLT on time and landed 30 minutes early. Had a 2.5 hr layover instead of 1hr 45 minutes which was great and even had a little breakfast snack in CLT (lines were stupid long). Plane from CLT to SFO was on time and landed 30 minutes early so i was home by the time the plane was scheduled to have arrived, all in all a great trip.
