More revealed about Ed Orgeron. He wasn't just in charge of LSU's football team when Title IX violations allegedly happened, he created a shell company to reportedly try to suppress rape, sexual assault, and domestic abuse cases brought against his star player. As a result, he's getting RICO'd.

Vanderbilt uses 7-run first to down Mississippi State in Game 1 of College World Series

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/31729072/vanderbilt-uses-7-run-first-mississippi-state-game-1-college-world-series

OMAHA, Neb. -- Mississippi State had the crowd. Vanderbilt had a big lead and Jack Leiter on the mound, and that was plenty Monday night.

The Commodores rode a seven-run first inning to an 8-2 victory in Game 1 of the College World Series finals to move within a win of a second straight national championship.

Fans in Mississippi State maroon overwhelmingly outnumbered Commodores supporters in the crowd of 24,052, many showing up early for tailgating and ringing cowbells in the parking lots.

Vandy chased the MSU starter after just 2 outs. Actually he did it to himself. 2 walks, 2 HBP, 1 dribbler in the 5.5 hole, and 1 oppo hit just over the 1B glove for 4 runs. He got chased, another reliever came in, and gave up a 3 run HR. 7 runs in the 1st by Vandy.

The MSU starter has started 2 games in the CWS and gotten 4 total outs. He's the first starter in the CWS finals to not complete an inning.

That kid will not have fond memories of his first Omaha visit. The moral, as always, is throw strikes.

If you're butter says "sweet cream" butter, that's a nearly meaningless marketing term because standard American butter is not fermented/cultured - hence, "sweet cream".

I am still fairly new to coffee (finally caved in the last 5 years and got addicted to coffee after all the work trips to Europe), particularly brewing at home, but I just noticed that Peet's Major D instruction on the bag suggests "cold brew". So I finally tried course ground the beans and soak them in water for a day before filtering. Honestly, I am not sure I am doing it correctly and if the blandish taste is due to the wrong coffee to water ratio or not enough "brewing".

Nothing to see here, move along:

Danny Brown, the former president of AGrowStar, confirmed negotiations began in late 2015. But Brown said ADM wanted $4 million for the plant — 16 times what Perdue’s company ultimately paid for it.

The timing of the sale just as Perdue was about to become the most powerful man in U.S. agriculture raises legal and ethics concerns, from the narrow question of whether the secretary followed federal financial disclosure requirements to whether the transaction could have been an attempt to influence an incoming government official, in violation of bribery statutes, ethics lawyers say.

Giants waste every possible opportunity, do not beat LA

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2021/6/28/22555081/san-francisco-giants-dodgers-recap-brandon-crawford-trevor-bauer

The San Francisco Giants had their opportunities to Beat LA. Believe you me, they had their opportunities. They damn near had their opportunities every single inning, and they failed to capitalize on them.

I was going to highlight one or two of their missed opportunities, but it’s Monday night. It’s Monday night and the Giants just lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s Monday night and the Giants just lost to the Dodgers and there are still four more days until Friday night.

This is no time for the truncated version. No one is ordering the abridged edition. Monday nights, when the weekend is beyond the horizon and your mouth is full with the acrid taste of Dodger victories and Trevor Bauer gesticulating towards the crowd like the unpopular guy in a band walking off stage thinking he’s the most popular, is a time to look in the mirror, point out everything you hate, and sit with it.

Expand full comment

The game was a lot of fun to attend, though we missed the first inning HRs. Dodger dogs are unsurprisingly very mediocre, but it was great to be back at a live sporting event with a full crowd.

grilled ones are on the club level only (he said confidently with knowledge of last having attended a Dodger home game in 1995, but I went to about 30 that summer because I interned for the team)

Dodgers win battle of solo home runs over Giants

https://www.truebluela.com/2021/6/28/22555092/dodgers-giants-solo-home-runs

By rule, the Dodgers and Giants played another close game, the sixth time in eight tries this season their game has been within two runs in the seventh inning or later. Baseball, by definition, is a team sport, but Monday night was all about the solos. Home runs accounted for all five runs in the series opener, with the Dodgers prevailing 3-2.

After allowing first-inning home runs in five straight games last week — one of the main drivers of the Dodgers’ four-game losing streak — the early power shoes were on the other foot on Monday. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy started the game with two home runs, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead just two batters into the bottom of the first.

They were the Dodgers’ first opening-frame home runs in nine games.
