Dana Stubblefield finally convicted of rape, five years after the woman first reported it. Faces 15 to life in prison.
"A Santa Clara County jury on Monday found former 49ers player Dana Stubblefield guilty of rape, after prosecutors said he he lured a developmentally disabled woman to his Morgan Hill home on the promise of a babysitting job.
Stubblefield, 49, faces 15-years to life in prison. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, Washington, and the Oakland Raiders.
The verdict comes after a nine-month trial, and five years after the victim initially reported the April 2015 sexual assault to police. The jury ultimately found Stubblefield guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force and false imprisonment, and not guilty of the rape of a person incapable of giving consent.
The jury also found that Stubblefield used a gun during the assault, prosecutors said."

Everton managed to finish the season as they played it, with some decent play and then a lot of struggle fucking against Bournemouth who beat them and still got relegated. And then Leighton Baines retired 😐
For the first time since in the '50s, no team started as well as 3-0 or as poorly as 0-3. Everyone has both won and lost before the end of the first weekend.
Minimal prep time pushing every team towards the mean, shortened season providing too small a sample size to separate signal from noise.... The undoubted winner of this season is Team Chaos.
I found myself watching England versus West Indies for a while on Saturday which was mostly because I set aside time to watch soccer on Saturday morning - I hadn’t internalized that the last games for the EPL were on Sunday. It was very soothing.
With 30 man rosters, there are teams carrying as many as 17-18 pitchers, and that's not counting at least 1 on the taxi squads. Do the math, and that's over 500 pitchers. There aren't 500 major league level pitchers in the world. Meanwhile most managers' DNA requires that they use as many of the available pitchers as possible. They can't help themselves. The fact that the pitcher currently out there shouldn't be in many cases does nothing to dissuade them.
Most starting pitchers just didn't have enough time to get ready to go deep into games. I do think in this small sample size, there have been less in-inning pitching changes.
I think MLB will just suspend play for the East for two weeks and try to continue Central/West until the next outbreak (Reds had a player testing positive after playing the opening game...so far he only spread the disease to a second player).
I guess that could work. Will mean the teams in the central and west will get more games in. But I'm thinking at the very least masks will be mandatory at all times in the stadium, even during game play.
Yankees/Phillies also postponed. Since the Marlins also scrimmaged the Braves last week, I'd imagine the Braves would be tested as well as the Mets who the Braves just played.
One of my neighbors who I've met during the pandemic manages the hotel the Yankees stayed in this weekend in DC. He said they all stayed in their rooms when not at the ballpark and had their masks on all the time, even when they opened the door for room service. I don't think I'd be too excited if I were them to go into the visitor's clubhouse in Philly right now.
I'm assuming the Phillies (team Marlins played last 3 days) get tested. And the umps. If any of them also got it I don't see how they can play. Players don't social distance while on the field. Very few wear masks (though Panda did when the Dodgers rarely got a runner on first last 2 games)

skiing! Alta is my personal favorite, but i have had a great time at many of them all within an hours drive on the airport-that-shall-not-be-named.
Alta is sort of a throwback resort w/ very few amenities, skiers only, and a ton of amazing terrain serviced by only 8 lifts. you just leave your stuff in the main lodge and fancy good is not a thing here.
on the other hand there is the ski-up espresso shack ...
i like Park City a lot too. that was the most recent already-booked trip canceled by coronavirus. we were supposed to go for a week on the last week of Mar.
PC is a great little town for both the non-skiers in the family as well as a good vibrant apres-ski scene w/ lots of good food and bars. also, there is tons of lodging options so you can usually find stuff at any budget even during peak times. and the ski resort is MASSIVE, so once you get away from the base, there lines are not so bad.
it is an interesting story how PC ski resort came to be owned by Epic/Vail. basically someone w/ some clerical duties failed to submit some paperwork in time to renew the lease for the land.
Epic/Vail "cleverly" came in, leased the land from under them, and forced PC to sell themselves.

I made a coconut cream pie for Saturday (mostly following the Smitten Kitchen recipe), but the only part that's baked is the crust: https://smittenkitchen.com/2018/04/triple-coconut-cream-pie/
not technically baked, but I steamed a blackberry pudding and made waffles over the weekend.

Which one of you paid her off?
I’ve never been that into drugs. Cocaine, shrooms, weed and E just never did much for me.
I’m definitely a whiskey and tequila man though.
But did you tell her the truth?
I did
So, are you sending her to SC? :)
Hardly. Funnily enough, she applied because she thought I’d appreciate it and then didn’t get it, she’ll be consoling herself at Vassar instead
LOVE IT

That's a "baked" dish? I wouldn't have thought that is the cooking technique given the name of the dish.
The dumplings were baked separately, then added later. Otherwise, they'd dissolve in the stew.
Banana bread using this recipe. No 2 loves it. I thought it was weird to use oil instead of butter but it does taste really good.

MLB pitching is weird this season. It's like cricket seeing so many guys pitch in a game.
For the first time since in the '50s, no team started as well as 3-0 or as poorly as 0-3. Everyone has both won and lost before the end of the first weekend.

His control was horrible. Wasn't it like 3 straight walks and then he grooved 2-3 pitches that were hit hard.
His velocity was way off. Used to be able to throw 101 MPH, yesterday his fastest pitch was 93 I think, and he did walk three guys.

Fly in and pick-up a half-day lift ticket (SFO-SLC). Prefer Alta-Snowbird for the snow and the steeps, but Park City is good for local color.
And uh, the Osmonds hang out in UT, right?
The most under-rated road trip in the Pac-12. Best logistics, whether driving or flying, good stadium, good atmosphere, easy access and egress. Beautiful views, usually good weather. Lots of restaurants of all description close at hand.
We quite liked the trip to Provo, I was going to do a DBD about that, but can't in this new format.
I recommend to anyone if you find yourself in position to take in a game at Utah, don't pass it up. The same can be said for a game at BYU.
Some discount Utah as a road trip destination, mostly people who haven't actually been there.
But I’m sure any road trip to Utah is a BYOB type of vacation? Is that correct?
They have a liquor store in St. George. It's actually between Vegas and Zion National Park. Bought a bottle of wine there.
Not exactly, there is a state liquor store in Provo, and man, is it dire. One thing about the BYU game - almost zero tailgating - maybe a total of three sad people grilling hot dogs before the game.
Were they sad Cal people or sad BYU people?
That's in part because a lot of them are inside eating at Cosmo's Grill. When we were there for an OSU-BYU game, they (of course) planted all the Beavers in the corner of the north end zone, which was directly over Cosmo's, and we got to smell everything being grilled all game long.
I’ve heard that from others. There’s a guy called Roy who’s online as USCPsyco who hasn’t missed a game in years and he always has good words for away games at Utah.
The only parts of Utah I've seen are 80 across the state and 84 to 15 to SLC from the Idaho Border. It is a very beautiful state.
My time in Utah is limited to changing planes in the airport and wandering around the Four Corners tourist trap.
if i have a long enough layover (2+ hours) i usually jump in an Uber and get some Mexican food at the Red Iguana just at the edge of town.
you have to make sure it is a non-bisy time though.
we have a joke in our family that if we ski in that area for a few days, we can sample all 7 of the moles sauces in a few days.
One of several places I endorse. Very good food.

That's SO GOOD - DC, you gotta watch this movie. Kids can watch too!
The remake (which I have never seen) in 2015 never happened
It was terrible.
Fantastic movie...saw it in the theater. Not sure how well it will hold up to watch for first time now tho, DC. I didn’t bother with the remake tho, so can’t speak to that garbage...

My take on this is that it's a bad script but Kathryn Bigelow directs the hell out of it. It's like, Michael Mann levels of atmosphere and action choreography all in service of a really goofy premise.
IT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!! (but yes, a goofy idea, but the film transcends it)
Yeah, I think the direction really lifts it.
But if you really think about the plot, the only conclusion is that Johnny Utah is a terrible cop.
No Spoilers! DC hasn't seen it yet!
Anthony Kiedis (red hot chili peppers) has a cameo
Speaking of RHCP, someone sent me the Super Bowl prank from 2014 a few months back, where some comedian dudes made an entire RHCP spoof song and released it right before the Super Bowl where RHCP was playing the halftime show, and passed it off as a new RHCP song for a hot minute. Somehow this episode had entirely escaped my awareness until recently, but it's pretty fucking on point as a parody:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zGk0k34tGs
I'd say they nailed 'em.
😂 I agree, also I love DEVO, but I didn't hear the Weird Al parody until recently - and it's is also really on point.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMhwddNQSWQ
Oh, that one's a classic. I remember hearing it as a kid, lol.
It's interesting, both are great style parodies, but I don't think Weird Al is meaning to put down Devo like the RHCP one is.
I was thinking... most great parodies are rather affectionate. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein etc...
“That would be a waste of time....”
