Follow up: the armed vigilantes walked up to cops with their guns in hand and got treated to free bottled water. If this ain't white privilege, then nothing is.
Yep, the alt right is already treating this kid like a hero. I wouldn’t be surprised to see similar type shootings occur. The alt right and conservatives are convinced they property is more important than life.
I am sure glad the Founders decided at the last minute to write life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness over life, liberty and property. If they hadn’t then protesters would face the very real threat of getting shot at every protest.
Partly that property is more important and partly that anyone at these protests is a dangerous proto-terrorist and almost certainly an enemy of all true Americans. I mean that’s what people say in all these feverish corners of Facebook and such
Given that even “normal” conservatives have decided that BLM is a terrorist organization rather than loosely locally organized events, I fully expect to see more reactionary / far right vigilantes shooting protestors as time goes on.
Reading about a castle I visited, then reading one I haven't:
"The Normans introduced the Jews to Norwich and they lived close to the castle. A cult was founded in Norwich in the wake of the murder of a young boy, William of Norwich, for which the Jews of the city were blamed.[13] In Lent 1190, violence against Jews erupted in East Anglia and on 6 February (Shrove Tuesday) it spread to Norwich. Some fled to the safety of the castle, but those who did not were killed in their hundreds.[14] The Pipe Rolls, records of royal expenditure, note that repairs were carried out at the castle in 1156–1158 and 1204–1205.[15]"
The only ones I remember visiting were when I had an event in Paris last year. My mom came along because her sister lives in Paris. She and her sister went to Istanbul when I had my event but I stayed almost an extra week. we went to visit my cousin that lives near Tours. We went and visited a couple of small castles in the Loire Valley. They were pretty cool.
I'm sure we visited some when we had a family trip when I was young but I don't remember any of them.
One of my favorite activities when I was a kid in East Anglia was exploring castles, neolithic sites, and cathedrals. In 2006 took the wife and daughter on a tour of past stomping grounds, Cambridge, Ely Cathedral, Lavenham, Bury St. Edmunds, Framlingham Castle (built by a powerful baron, keep destroyed by the King to keep him in check) Orford Castle on the coast, (built by King John, the keep remains nearly intact, outer walls long gone).
Caernarfon Castle? I drove around it when I was driving from England to catch the ferry to Dublin, but didn't have time to get out and explore. Super impressive from the outside.
Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, southwest of Munich. Gorgeous castle built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and is a tribute to his favorite composer, Richard Wagner. Incredible depictions of Wagner operas inside. It was also Walt's inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's Castle at Disneyland.
Visited it when I worked for a couple weeks in Munich. Did a day trip on the weekend and there's a couple other castles you can walk to and visit the same day. Nice area for walking around even if the castles weren't there.
I took a trip a few years back to London and then wandered west toward Wales. Stayed/visited a few castles, but our stay at Thornbury Castle was exceptional. 19/19 WB
"It is not a true military fortress but rather an early example of a Tudor country house, with minimal defensive attributes. It is now a grade I listed building."
I’m a fan of the genre of “small Scottish castles that are moments away from dropping into the sea.” This example is Tantallon Castle about 35-40 miles from Edinburgh

Just got a robo call from a number that shows up as Jack Burkman. The voice on the message is an African American sounding woman's voice saying she is calling on behalf of the civil rights organization founded by Burkman and Jacob Wohl. She is discouraging voting by mail because the information will be used by bill collectors, the police to pursue outstanding warrants, and the CDC for mandatory vaccines. Finishes by saying not to give my personal information to "the man" by voting by mail.
I guess it makes sense to target Arlington because Burkman lives here, but around forty percent of the population of the county have advanced degrees so it's not like many are going to believe their crap.

CASTLES
The overstuffed opulence of Hearst Castle tainted my assumption of what castle innards normally look like.
This conversation is giving me a severe case of wanderlust.
Reading about a castle I visited, then reading one I haven't:

I don't know why, but I found that shocking.
love castles and always make it a feature of any trip I take if possible

Kind of like one we visited in Ireland, really a country house with pretensions.
