Bill and Ted Face the Music releases on Friday.

DC Trojan's avatar

My wife remains befuddled that I have not seen the preceding Bill and Ted films

dcblue's avatar

As often as they are on TV, nor have I.

imalasmax's avatar

Trailer looked better than I expected

imalasmax's avatar

But, admittedly, I had very low expectations

heyalumnigo's avatar

I'll watch. I really liked 1. I think 2 was meh. I kinda remember watching it but not any of the details other than the game of twister.

I hope it gets sucked into the sun and dies a fiery death

heyalumnigo's avatar

such a waste of a perfectly good roadster. I'd love to have one of them

Oklahoma has an entire skill group reduced to 1 player.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Can we schedule them this year? Unless it's the TE skill group in which case that TE is going for 10/250.

DC Trojan's avatar

If it’s their defense will anyone notice?

Hurricane Laura heading toward eastern TX, Western LA. Trump will use a sharpie to direct it back to sea.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/26/weather/laura-gulf-coast-weather-forecast-wednesday/index.html

SGBear's avatar

Laura strengthens to 140 mph Cat 4 hurricane. Will be one of the biggest hurricanes to ever hit the US. Cue FEMA doing nothing.

CruzinBears's avatar

My FIL (leads a LA-based FEMA team) flew out to Houston this morning in preparation.

SGBear's avatar

Follow up: the armed vigilantes walked up to cops with their guns in hand and got treated to free bottled water. If this ain't white privilege, then nothing is.

Yep, the alt right is already treating this kid like a hero. I wouldn’t be surprised to see similar type shootings occur. The alt right and conservatives are convinced they property is more important than life.

I am sure glad the Founders decided at the last minute to write life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness over life, liberty and property. If they hadn’t then protesters would face the very real threat of getting shot at every protest.

DC Trojan's avatar

Partly that property is more important and partly that anyone at these protests is a dangerous proto-terrorist and almost certainly an enemy of all true Americans. I mean that’s what people say in all these feverish corners of Facebook and such

DC Trojan's avatar

Given that even “normal” conservatives have decided that BLM is a terrorist organization rather than loosely locally organized events, I fully expect to see more reactionary / far right vigilantes shooting protestors as time goes on.

The only ones I remember visiting were when I had an event in Paris last year. My mom came along because her sister lives in Paris. She and her sister went to Istanbul when I had my event but I stayed almost an extra week. we went to visit my cousin that lives near Tours. We went and visited a couple of small castles in the Loire Valley. They were pretty cool.

I'm sure we visited some when we had a family trip when I was young but I don't remember any of them.

SGBear's avatar

I took a trip a few years back to London and then wandered west toward Wales. Stayed/visited a few castles, but our stay at Thornbury Castle was exceptional. 19/19 WB

https://www.thornburycastle.co.uk/

Cugel's avatar

I imagine so, but:

"It is not a true military fortress but rather an early example of a Tudor country house, with minimal defensive attributes. It is now a grade I listed building."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thornbury_Castle

Kind of like one we visited in Ireland, really a country house with pretensions.

DC Trojan's avatar

A lot of “castles” in Scotland like that too. Wales definitely has your best “serious fortress per capita” going

SGBear's avatar

The castle in the main body is Matsumoto Castle.

imalasmax's avatar

The overstuffed opulence of Hearst Castle tainted my assumption of what castle innards normally look like.

Cugel's avatar

This conversation is giving me a severe case of wanderlust.

Cugel's avatar

Reading about a castle I visited, then reading one I haven't:

"The Normans introduced the Jews to Norwich and they lived close to the castle. A cult was founded in Norwich in the wake of the murder of a young boy, William of Norwich, for which the Jews of the city were blamed.[13] In Lent 1190, violence against Jews erupted in East Anglia and on 6 February (Shrove Tuesday) it spread to Norwich. Some fled to the safety of the castle, but those who did not were killed in their hundreds.[14] The Pipe Rolls, records of royal expenditure, note that repairs were carried out at the castle in 1156–1158 and 1204–1205.[15]"

I don't know why, but I found that shocking.

Fire Starkey's avatar

love castles and always make it a feature of any trip I take if possible

Cugel's avatar

One of my favorite activities when I was a kid in East Anglia was exploring castles, neolithic sites, and cathedrals. In 2006 took the wife and daughter on a tour of past stomping grounds, Cambridge, Ely Cathedral, Lavenham, Bury St. Edmunds, Framlingham Castle (built by a powerful baron, keep destroyed by the King to keep him in check) Orford Castle on the coast, (built by King John, the keep remains nearly intact, outer walls long gone).

Cugel's avatar

Check that, Orford built by Henry II, Framlingham conquered by King John

goldenone's avatar

Carnarvorn Castle in Wales. From whence Lord Carnarvon funded Howard Carter's search for Tutankhamun's tomb.

Cugel's avatar

Caernarfon Castle? I drove around it when I was driving from England to catch the ferry to Dublin, but didn't have time to get out and explore. Super impressive from the outside.

DC Trojan's avatar

We were planning to go there during spring break but oh well

Fire Starkey's avatar

nearby is Harlech castle which sits on a rock in the ocean and is only accessible by a foot bridge

Tangtpt's avatar

Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, southwest of Munich. Gorgeous castle built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and is a tribute to his favorite composer, Richard Wagner. Incredible depictions of Wagner operas inside. It was also Walt's inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's Castle at Disneyland.

dcblue's avatar

Visited it when I worked for a couple weeks in Munich. Did a day trip on the weekend and there's a couple other castles you can walk to and visit the same day. Nice area for walking around even if the castles weren't there.

DC Trojan's avatar

I’m a fan of the genre of “small Scottish castles that are moments away from dropping into the sea.” This example is Tantallon Castle about 35-40 miles from Edinburgh

SGBear's avatar

Wife and I want to go to Scotland when conditions permit. I've been to Edinburgh a few times, but haven't ventured elsewhere. Any recommendations?

DC Trojan's avatar

What sort of vacation activities tickle your fancy? Hiking and such, or casually enjoying some scenery from a restful spot?

SGBear's avatar

Probably would go for 10 days or so, so would have a little from column a and a little from column b. But castles are definitely on the list

Fire Starkey's avatar

we're going to do something similar at some point. Its high on our list of travel priorities

This is one of my favorite videos laying out how conservative arguments work these days: "The Card Says Moops"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMabpBvtXr4

Basically, you just say whatever allows you to "win" the argument in the moment, and it doesn't matter that none of it adds up to any kind of consistent philosophy or belief system. Just own the libs.

Just got a robo call from a number that shows up as Jack Burkman. The voice on the message is an African American sounding woman's voice saying she is calling on behalf of the civil rights organization founded by Burkman and Jacob Wohl. She is discouraging voting by mail because the information will be used by bill collectors, the police to pursue outstanding warrants, and the CDC for mandatory vaccines. Finishes by saying not to give my personal information to "the man" by voting by mail.

rocksanddirt's avatar

Burkman and Wohl are like a real time three stooges short.

DC Trojan's avatar

These guys are not subtle and they can’t get enough of those almost-crimes!

dcblue's avatar

I guess it makes sense to target Arlington because Burkman lives here, but around forty percent of the population of the county have advanced degrees so it's not like many are going to believe their crap.

DC Trojan's avatar
