What is the best you've ever bowled and how many beers did it take to get there?

Ruey Yen's avatar

186...and that was achieved without beers. I did play in a beer league a couple of times, my mode (most frequent scores) is probably around 120 with the mean (average score) a bit smaller (there are bad days where I barely crack 80s...but it's also due to how the scoring system awards consistency). The beer helps to the extent that I don't feel the pressure...I don't bowl well under pressure.

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

something in the 170's and was drinking moderately. but that was an outlier score. normal scores are in the 100-125 range

BentPawn(Don)'s avatar

135 average, once hit 205 after two beers. Have never been able to get over 190 since then.

Erik Johannessen's avatar

At a company outing a few years ago, we reserved the entirety of Sea Bowl in Pacifica for a company tournament, and I somehow managed to turn in a 173 (or thereabouts) to win the thing. I don't think I've come within 40 points of that score before or since.

Erik Johannessen's avatar

so, probably about a beer, beer and a half. more than that and my skills certainly decline.

Wiata78's avatar

Made 204 while in junior high so no beer. Not sure I ever scored that high since.

sacman701's avatar

209 and zero. I never averaged more than about 125, though.

Cugel's avatar

I used to bowl a lot when I was a kid, so no beers, I think around 200.

imalasmax's avatar

I rarely get over 100. I'm terrible.

imalasmax's avatar

Wii bowling, on the other hand, always above 200

atoms's avatar

187 because I'm a killer on the lanes

atoms's avatar

and... probably a couple drinks. There's a sweet spot with drinking and skill games like bowling, or darts, or pool. A couple drinks help to loosen you up, but too many and you get sloppy.

Cugel's avatar

There is, it's true, but I think it's one drink. I remember watching a show to convince people that drinking and driving was bad (which it is) but the presenter was a bit flustered because the subject was doing better after one drink. Of course after three, he was much worse for it.

DC Trojan's avatar

I will bowl consistently around the 120 mark regardless of my level of sobriety, I am Not Good at the bowling

Over 200 last time I played. Strike after strike. (lucky)

WCC creates 'The Russell Rule' to encourage hiring of minority candidates

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29587843/washington-state-football-coach-nick-rolovich-tells-wr-kassidy-woods-joining-unity-group-create-issue

Bill Russell, the 11-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, has endorsed a measure that will make the West Coast Conference the first Division I league to require all schools to include a minority finalist for job openings in athletics, the league announced Monday.

Backed by Gloria Nevarez, the first Latinx Division I commissioner, and unanimously approved by the league's 10 presidents, "The Russell Rule" is the hallmark of the conference's equity, diversity and inclusion platform. Per the new rule, finalists for any opening for an athletic director, senior administrator, head coach or full-time assistant coach within the league must include a member of a "traditionally underrepresented community."

DC Trojan's avatar

I get the impression that “cheekier” cuts are more common now than they used to be - put it this way, at the missus’ camp there’s a counselor hour off before lunch and I generally avoid the swimming area and canoe dock because there is a LOT of ass under the sun and I prefer to avoid any suspicion of being a dirty old man.

SGBear's avatar

My wife knows that my nearsightedness means that my non-prescription sunglasses make it impossible for me to leer. If I'm staring at a boatload of coeds, she knows it is because I'm admiring the boat.

TheBuckeyeBear's avatar

Plus, you probably save on sunscreen this way!

atoms's avatar

I thought that was the benefit of getting old, is that those perceptions largely don't matter any more.

DC Trojan's avatar

Conversely, it’s probably more pleasant for the young ladies to not feel under the male gaze - which is true most of the time, and as a visiting husband I stand out a bit.

atoms's avatar

That's fair. You're definitely not old enough to be completely innocuous just yet :)

DC Trojan's avatar

I should probably add here that I have only been on beach warm enough for bathing suits a few times this century so I’m not usually in a position to survey the trends

TheBuckeyeBear's avatar

They are both cuts, meaning shape. You can have underwear that is bikini cut or thong cut (or other shapes), and you can also have swimsuit bottoms that are bikini cut or thong cut (or other shapes). You can consult Aerie, but this does have pictures, so fair warning: https://www.ae.com/us/en/c/aerie/undies/cat6460002?pagetype=plp

If I am paying $11MM, I require lakefront, not across a busy street from the lake.

Erik Johannessen's avatar

I don't know that there's much, if anything, of that size on the lake side of the street, but I feel you.

rocksanddirt's avatar

up from 1.3M only 8 years ago?

DC Trojan's avatar

Reasonable. I was admiring a property on the same lake as the summer camp where the womenfolk hang out (not this year obviously) and while there is a road between the house and the lake, it’s very lightly trafficked

The XFL is going to turn into football with wresting storylines. We'll have heels, players able to switch teams in the middle of a game. Actually that last one would be great. A WR tackles his own ball carrier, stands up, and rips off his jersey to show he plays for the other team.

My brother and I both guessed "cornshiba" first, rather than "corndog," but maybe we would have guessed "corndog" if it had been a more...generic-looking dog?

DC Trojan's avatar

I’d have thought the context of “state fair” would have taken you directly to, and no further than, corn dog. Perhaps you were unconsciously overthinking it to get a “very online” answer because of the shiba?

TheBuckeyeBear's avatar
