Very cool, and you can leave the wooden walkway and walk on the dirt!

Hmmm...the application crashed. Will have to try later. I remember seeing the outside of the Tomb when I was in the Valley of the Kings for the last time, a couple of years back after the overthrow of Morsi.

Also one of my favorite egyptological websites. You can drill down and read the Pyramid texts in English translation, describing the pharaoh Unas' journey to the afterlife.

while he seems like an ass, what's the purpose of this?

VOX implements new comment module "Coral" that it bought from Mozilla into SBN. People react predictably to loss of functionality.

https://coralproject.net/

heyalumnigo's avatar

I went to Silver and Black Pride and took a look. Z functionality is gone. Any comment replies more than 3 levels deep need to go to a separate page to read them. Comment editing has been removed.

heyalumnigo's avatar

Also it looks like new comments don't show up in yellow.

Related only because of the name:

My ballet school offers free Fbook livestreams and paid Zoom classes. Today's livestream instructor was Coral, who I had met a couple times when she subbed for my regular instructor in the Before Times. My favorite Coral moment was when she was telling us where to look--"Imagine that Alexander Skarsgard is in the corner! Or chocolate cake!"

Today's class, for those who are curious: https://www.facebook.com/BerkeleyBalletTheater/videos/320824112291063

rocksanddirt's avatar

Why do they keep doing things to hurt the functionality of the product? Do they really want no engagement with the audience?

HeyStudentsBears's avatar

i am no expert, but the code for comments is really old and unsustainable.

so they either have to 1) never change it 2) invest a ton to keep the old stuff 3) do something new, and that was to have bought the Coral project a few years ago.

on the other hand i agree that it hurts the engagement factor and that is the real differentiator compared to other sites.

rocksanddirt's avatar

So, why not fix the new one to be engaging? Craigslist, hasn't updated shit in 25 years, except the back end to keep it running. The forum posting software is basic beyond belief, but encourages engagement and following of conversations. It seems to me that those who make conversations harder, are not interested in the engagement of their customers.

SGBear's avatar

For those who are abreast of Cal commits, who excites you the most?

SGBear's avatar

1. Kai Milner - amazing reel. I haven't been this excited since Goff. He has a special arm.

2. DJ Rogers - elite quickness in a TE sized package. He should be a mismatch vs. LBs.

3. Moses Oladejo - physical freak specimen

If Derek Wilkins commits, he replaces Oladejo

If Noah Pulealii joins, I'll start the Noah for Heisman hype train.

On a slight tangent, I only learned recently about the existence of these "Freeports" (like the one in Geneva, Switzerland) where many expensive art pieces are stored (questionable as to how well) /sold/bought in tax evasion moves by rich people.

What? It's been at that port for over 3 years?

Yeah, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility out of hand.

heyalumnigo's avatar

So maybe the fireworks fire was started on purpose to get the ammonium nitrate to blow up? I guess I could see that.

atoms's avatar

Not pointing any fingers, but it's not impossible it could be related to the wave of explosions that have been happening in another country:

UConn (former AAC) cancels 20/21 football season. To be fair, they were a raging dumpster fire and probably could benefit from rebuilding from the ground up.

https://www.courant.com/sports/uconn-football/hc-sp-uconn-football-coronavirus-season-canceled-30300834-20200805-sfyumzbhdreptoyvsg4m7utmyi-story.html

GoldenSD81's avatar

Yeah UConn football is a mess right now. I didn’t even realize they went independent and left the AAC. Why did they decide to go independent?

Ruey Yen's avatar

I think UConn returning to the Big East does help their much more successful (and profitable) women's and men's basketball programs. Football becoming independent is just a byproduct.

rocksanddirt's avatar

F*. There's no way football is going to be anything other than a spreading event, or cancelled.

I ask because (a) I think it's obscure and (b) I've always found it to be both melancholy and jaunty and I love that combination.

I did, because at least for purposes of children’s content I am a Brit of a certain age.

My personal favorite is Nellie the elephant - I have happy memories of singing it to my older daughter (not quite two at the time) at Thingvellir in Iceland and my father in law asking what kind of colonial claptrap I was subjecting her to...

I called my local urgent care facility and they said that providers are recommending waiting 1 week before getting tested to prevent false negatives. With that and the 5-10 day test results, I'm close to the 14 day quarantine. I'm thinking I'll do the tent in the backyard for about 4-5 days and make sure I don't exhibit any symptoms. Then maybe just stay in my room to sleep and work and only go out to go to the bathroom or grab a bite to eat, all while using a mask and staying at least 6 feet away from people.

atoms's avatar

Waiting 1 week after what? Potential exposure? Symptoms?

heyalumnigo's avatar

potential exposure. When I got on a plane to fly back on Monday. Not 1 week after symptoms. I think if I had symptoms they'd tell me to go in right away.

President Trump showed no sign of admitting the magnitude of the crisis. In wide-ranging, frequently erroneous comments on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday, he claimed covid-19 was spreading in a “relatively small portion” of the country (it is spreading nearly everywhere); said children are “virtually immune” to the virus (they are not); and once again insisted the outbreak will “will go away like things go away.”

Who keeps telling him these things, or is he just hearing voices in his head?

rocksanddirt's avatar

apparently whatever form his stroke damage took, it has removed his ability to understand spoken language.

Kansas Rep. Roger Marshall has defeated former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach in the Republican Senate primary. GOP sends a stronger candidate to the GE.

https://www.npr.org/2020/08/04/899128589/conservative-kris-kobach-projected-to-lose-kansas-gop-senate-primary

atoms's avatar

Upside is, no chance of Kobach winning.

Cugel's avatar

Downside, missed chance for senate seat pick-up

atoms's avatar

Yes, that is the downside of "GOP sends stronger candidate to the GE" 😛

It sucks, but I think avoiding the risk of Kobach is at least a silver lining.

AndyPanda's avatar

A sign that the Pac-12 may really not think much of the football season will be played, the conference is talking about a low-interest rate (3.75%) loan program for school athletic departments for up to $1 billion per school in the event football is cancelled. Jon Wilner has a report on it, but the crappy Mercury News site is throwing up so many popups and redirecting, so I can't see the details. Its still both encouraging, in that this is the first realistic plan to proceed without a football season, and instructive that it may be laying the foundation for cancellation in the light of an enormous number of issues that are going to be difficult to deal with safely.

We just got a letter from Vandy for tuition reimbursement insurance. Vandy does a sliding scale for reimbursement but this place does a flat 80% for the year. I think for the 70K or so it was $550/year. No 2 is on need based aide so I need to see if we would pay less.
