Our first family computer was a TSR from Radio Shack, which used a daisy wheel printer. Damn, that thing was loud. You know when you run your thumb across the teeth of a comb? It was that, except amplified through Satan's bullhorn.

I had forgotten all about daisy wheel printers. I think my dad had one back in the day.

I had one when I was a kid. Brother typewriter with a serial port that I would connect to my Commodore 64. I used the primitive word processing software to write SCI-FI stories that I sent off to the magazines.

Oakland A’s Game #41: Ramon Laureano walks off against his former team, A’s beat Astros 3-2

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2020/9/9/21430194/oakland-as-game-41-houston-astros-score-result-walk-off

Oakland A’s outfielder Ramon Laureano and the Houston Astros have brewed up quite a feud this summer, but Laureano got the last laugh on Wednesday, or at least the most recent one.

The center fielder lined a hit to the gap in left-center in the bottom of the 9th inning, breaking a tie and giving Oakland a walk-off victory over their nearest competition in the AL West division.

Laureano was originally drafted by the Astros in 2014 and then traded to the A’s in a minor deal before blossoming into a star. Tensions have run tight between the two parties this year, as Houston has hit him with pitches four times, with one of those peggings inspiring a benches-clearing brawl that resulted in a four-game suspension for Laureano and a 20-game penalty for the Astros coach who instigated it. On Wednesday, Laureano got a chance to clap back in a meaningful fashion — the standings.

Giants sail past Mariners 10-1

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2020/9/9/21430124/san-francisco-giants-seattle-mariners-final-score

The San Francisco Giants beat the Seattle Mariners 10-1, but don’t let that aesthetically-pleasing score fool you.

It wasn’t good. It wasn’t impressive. In fact, I’d go so far as to call it pathetic.

A nine-run win? In this economy?

On most nights a 10-1 win is noteworthy; it’s the talk of the town.

But on Wednesday it paled in comparison to the Atlanta Braves, who decimated the Miami Marlins 29-9. And it paled in comparison to the Milwaukee Brewers, who stomped on the Detroit Tigers 19-0.

Extra effort gives Dodgers another win over the Diamondbacks

https://www.truebluela.com/2020/9/9/21430059/dodgers-extra-innings-diamondbacks-recap

It wasn’t as high-scoring as the series opener, but Dodgers-Diamondbacks was just as wild and sloppy on Wednesday. It took 10 innings to decide things for a second straight night, with the Dodgers emerging as 6-4 victors.

Chris Taylor singled home the free run to start the top of the 10th, then after a walk scored on a single by A.J. Pollock.

Blake Treinen made the two runs hold up in the 10th, picking up his first save as a Dodger. This came one night after Kenley Jansen threw a season-high 31 pitches, rendering him unavailable for this one.

The bullpen combined for five scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk, with six strikeouts.
