Defensive Film Review: That Trips Touchdown
Examining how Washington thwarted Cal despite a defensive time out
There’s an obvious choice for a play worth looking at closely this week. The situation: Cal is surprisingly tied with UW in the 4th quarter. Jeremiah Earby has just made a nice pass breakup into the end zone to force 3rd down. Washington comes out on 3rd and 10 from the 13 yard line with a 5 wide formation, with three receivers to the short side. Daniel Scott didn’t like something about way Cal was lined up, and called a time out.
And then UW came back out with another trips formation to the short side, and scored a touchdown. Rod Gilmore made a meal of it on the broadcast. What happened?!
(hat tip to Jesse Stewart over at Cal Rivals and the rest of the WFC crew on Discord for background on this play. You should read Jesse’s stuff!)
