DeSean Jackson, Cameron Jordan, Former Cal Football Players Support Tosh Lupoi for Head Coach
The groundswell to bring the former California Golden Bear home appears to be growing .
Since the Cal head coaching position opened, the coaching cycle appears to have been focused on one name: Tosh Lupoi. The Oregon defensive coordinator and former Golden Bear assistant coach/football alum has been the name on everyone’s lips for a week-plus, and the drumbeats seem to be only getting louder.
Why Tosh Lupoi should be the top choice to lead the next era of Cal football
This is an opinion piece that reflects only the opinions of this writer, and not the site itself.
With Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein accepting the Kentucky job, and deciding to stay with the Ducks through the College Football Playoff, you’d imagine if Lupoi did accept, he’d perform double duty for Oregon’s playoff run as well.
While Lupoi has yet to speak to the media, Oregon coach Dan Lanning did offer his tacit support for Lupoi becoming a head coach.
A host of prominent Cal football alumni who played alongside or were recruited/coached by Lupoi have lined up their support.
DeSean Jackson (Delaware State coach, played alongside Lupoi at Cal in 2005)
Cameron Jordan (coached by Lupoi from 2008 to 2010)
Geoff McArthur (played with Lupoi at Cal from 2000-04)
DJ Campbell (played on a Cal defense with Tosh as an assistant coach, 2008-2011)
Lorenzo Alexander (played with Tosh on defense at Cal from 2001-04)
Bryce Treggs (partly recruited by Lupoi before committing to Cal in 2012)
There remains no new news about any other interviews or additional candidates. Check out our Big Board for potential head coaching candidates.
