I am pretty sure that Cal was in the bottom 10 among FBA schools last year in offensive series that led to third downs. Musgrave is just a symptom of an overall problem that begins and ends with Wilcox. So does anyone think that if WIlcox fires Musgrave he is going to hire the next Kaleb DeBoer and turn him loose? Not gonna happen.
The Cal administration and the AD are eventually going to wake up and realize that this brand of football is not enticing to fair weather fans that Cal needs to fill the stadium. By that time, the B1G train may have already left the station.
Very interesting analysis but also very revealing of Cal's problems. I have a certain fear that Arizona is able to shut down our O and then we'll be looking at a 4-8 record at the end of the season in year 6. I really hope I'm wrong but I think our season hangs in the balance.
In the last game especially, it seemed we ran on every 1st down, right at the defense. Heck, I am old and feeble and even I knew what we were going to do. Easy to defend if you know what is coming. I did like the first play of the game, almost worked, should have tried it again later in the game. Oh well, Arizona could be a fun game. The weather will be perfect.
So is this just a long way of saying, our O line is not very good?

Ok I’ll confess, after 5 min I still don’t know what PPA is. Internet tells me “pre-paid athlete” or “power play assists”.
You have to search beyond Wikipedia.

So Cal faces longer distances on 3rd down than on 2nd down? What a crazy stat. Has Musgrave considered skipping 2nd down?
Basically we either convert on 1st/2nd down or we're royally fucked on 3rd. It has to do with the negative plays on 1st/2nd downs with sacks/TFLs.
I know, I'm just kidding that if we move backwards on average on 2nd down that we should just skip that down altogether. Not a serious suggestion.
More evidence that Wilcox needs to identify his next OC and move on from Musgrave.

Musgrave strikes again.
