Very nice work. Followed what you said perfectly while watching the videos, which is as it should be.

Great analysis and the animated GiF format makes it really easy to see a play since it loops

Watching in Haas the action was on the other side of the court and like you I was so caught up in the emotions of the game it’s really hard to see what really happened

But the 2 fouls on Reynard were questionable although Celestine was aggressive, executed the play perfectly and had tough finishes

Also love how you wrote about Grant. I too probably had unrealistic expectations of him and felt he was having confidence issues

But I also saw how he’s had some big games, and none bigger than the win vs Stanford. His 10 rebounds were huge but there was also the play near the end of the game where he was on the wing trying to get the ball to Tyson or Celestine (don’t remember) who was bottled up in the corner.

Grant drove hard to the rack and finished over and between 2 help defenders. Absolutely clutch!

It was to Daws who (inexplicably) had been pushed out to near the 3 point line but was also trying to post at the same time.

Really appreciate you writing up that sequence. It's the one I wanted to see most.

Thanks for the write up and analysis. My favorite thing about Monty ball was that we consistently beat teams with even better talent because the guys played set plays with high percentage outcomes. I loved beating UW every time even when they had great talent.

something as simple strong/motion strong or pistol action is so refreshing to see under Madsen. Fox really had us in hell with the stuff he was running lol

It aggravated me to no end that we ran all these pinch post actions for Lars who had no business being at the elbow with the ball! He wasn’t a particularly good passer, he wasn’t a threat to face up and get to the rim, and he couldn’t turn and shoot. On like five occasions we had a little bit of hi- low dump pass but even that went away when Andre transferred to Santa Barbara. i dont think Lars was the worst player in the world but he also shouldn't have been the focal point of our offense

There’s a little bit of jankiness with our current offense but I’m going to chalk that up to poor Askew being injured again - putting the ball in the hands of scorers who can get down hill off the DHO or make the decision to drive and hit the corners - shoot I think I saw a hammer pass this year - has been so refreshing.

Anyone know if Askew is returning this season. I am hoping Cal can keep improving and make the NIT (they do still have that?). We'd have to win the rest of ouir games to be an at large NCAA team. Winning the Pac 12 seems to be too much of a long shot.

1. Jalen Celestine was definitely in the weight room all offseason. GET OFF ME REYNAUD AND ANGEL!

2. I, personally, don’t love individual game plus/minus as a measure of a players effectiveness but over several games and/or lineup based data I think can be useful if not used in isolation. But continuing to post positive plus minutes over multiple games is definitely a trend and something to be noticed!
