Anyone see that in their ever-continuing struggle to shoot themselves in the foot, the Pac-12 will still require at least a .500 record to be bowl eligible, despite the relaxing of that requirement Nationwide for this crazy season. This could definitely affect some solid 3-4 teams that were affected by COVID in terms of a no contest or the missing of key pieces (i.e. Cal). Granted, with the Holiday, Red Box and (likely) inaugural LA bowl all canceling, with more sure to follow...but maybe it's time for the Conference to stop hamstringing itself, whaddaya say....

News for the sports bettors: Last night, Cal was anywhere from a pick 'em to a one or 1.5-point favorite.

Overnight, the line has moved: Cal is now anywhere from a 0.5 to 1.5-point dog. One or two books still call it a pick 'em.

Here' the link to the virus where Coach Wilcox talks about this issue. He is obviously stressed. He says that the 'several' players who are being held out right now as a result of contact tracing are significant. Hopefully its not our starting DB's. They can't announce names because of Hippa laws, but we will know on Saturday come game time based on who is not in the line up. It's a bummer that after seven months of avoiding Covid teamwide, amazing when you think about it, that it struck three days before our opener. Something tells me someone got laid last night by a hot date. Reminds me of my playing days with the flu, but obviously Covid is not the flu.

Great insights and questions, as always, Rugbear!

With contact tracing dies this mean any player who had contact with the infected player is quarantined or can they test the traced players and if they are negative can they be back in the line up. Curious as to who the player/s is/are...

Recent guidance from the Pac-12 Conference says anyone in close contact (someone who was within six feet of an infected person for more than 15 minutes or had direct physical contact) should be assumed contagious for the 48 hours before a positive test or the onset of Covid-19 symptoms. They have to self-quarantine as a result.

We'll likely find out Friday afternoon or evening whether the players who didn't test positive but are in self-quarantine because of contact tracing can play on Saturday.

Agree. My guess is that because these guys are young and fit that it should not be a problem, based on the science and stats. But then you never really know do you?

Please tell me for the love of God that this isn't any of the starters otherwise there will be some gaping holes against a team that doesn't need that advantage.

Based upon Wilcox's demeanor in the video, it's a starter and may impact a whole starting group. As far as our starting groups go I don't think that any would have a greater impact by not being able to play than our defensive secondary, except for maybe our thin D-line.
