Editorial question: is he really a "former" 5-star? Once he matriculated from high school isn't he forever a 5-star recruit? You graduated from Cal in 20XX. So you're a "Cal Grad", not a "Former Cal Grad", correct?
Anyhow, come be a Cal Bear and argue these matters around campus!
If Cal doesn't get this guy, and the odds are low anyway, I am advocating for trying Jermaine Terry as an edge rusher in Spring Ball. He is supposedly one of the best athletes on the team and pretty much contributed nothing to the tight end position last year unless you place a high value on 7 catches for 41 yards and a couple of back-to-back holding penalties in one close game.
He played the edge position in high school and has already shown he can put on the pounds. I know the already thin tight end room would be even thinner with Terry switching sides, but so what? Good coaches find a way to get their best athletes in the highest positions of need, and God knows Cal needs a better pass rush. Give it a shot!
People keep calling GB49 a troll all the time, but all I see is people trolling him even when he makes innocuous, harmless comments. Real classy, guys.
he's really raw...didn't play Senior year in HS cause of covid precautions, RS then got injured early this season. He's really really good... was playing on TAMU's line that goes 3 deep in NFL talent
I’d say he’s earning his money with his recruiting and dev of players. Not ideal to lose the player your DL was built around the week of game 1 and then multiple starters go down throughout the season. His development of Nate Burrell will pay off big time this next fall though.
It shocks me everytime Cal gets listed in the final choices for top recruits among other schools like USC, Michigan, etc. We usually can't close the deal, but it also means we have some appeal too. It shows that Cal can have top recruits, and we did when we had a deal closer like Tosh. Im sure things are different now with NIL but I hope the new coaching staff can recruit.
Not sure if our staff is using the Curt Shilling Bosox pitch, but they should:
Go to USC, win a championship, and in 3 months you will be forgotten.
Go to Cal, win a championship, and they'll remember you for the rest of your life.
Also: Cal has had two 5-star recruits - both became stars in the NFL. Cal is a difficult place, but if you make it through, you are set. Compare that to the long list of 5* guys at USC (https://247sports.com/college/usc/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruits/), the vast majority of whom did nothing in the NFL, assuming they even got there.
Is there a portal tracker for Cal Football? How many have hit the portal? Adds/Transfers?

oh i think you have to click on 2023.

Probably has a better chance making the League as a DE than as a TE in a spread O.
Love the full court press. Coach Fox, take note (<—-see what I did there?)
Is the guy on the far right in the picture Spavital? Makes no sense but sure looks like him. I can ID everyone else.
Yup. It does make sense if you remember he’s from Texas, coached at Texas St and TAMU, and would be our lead recruiter for the state.

Honestly, I got carried away after the discussion with Troy Taylor. I was still in that mindset for this post.
Exactly what we need.
Unexpected and intriguing! Any backstory on why he didn't play much? Update: seems to be knee injury-related.
Regardless, he obviously has a ton of talent and I hope his visit convinces him to pick Cal.

Perfect for Bloesch!
Wrong line coach haha
Oh lol that was dumb of me. Browning I guess.
Browning needs to earn his $ and dial up some pressure. Our pass rush was nonexistent…puts too much pressure on the secondary.
Gotta get after the QB….

Um, getting this guy would be friggin’ huge.
290 lbs. huge
That's a lot of huge.

Aaron Rodgers, or Mark Sanchez?
Marshawn Lynch, or Joe McKnight?
Desean Jackson, or Patrick Turner?
Jared Goff, or John David Booty?
Cam Jordan, or Kenny Bigelow Jr?
etc....
Agree - would be curious to find out why he put Cal on the list.
Personal connection?
Great academics?
Would like a free trip to SF Bay area?
He wants FTX crypto. Oops, a bit late for that.
SBF is 100% a Furd product since conception.
Possible WFC Poll question: Which one of these things does not fit with the rest of the list?
Cal is closest to Lake Tahoe
USC—who wants a winning record anyway? (and he's since taken them out of consideration)
Punch Twist
He already took USC out of his top 4 it’s down to Miami MSU and CAL. Hopefully we get him!
