From the teaching desk of a WSU Cougar: Help a community and win a trophy in the name of Cal (Part 2: Time to repeat)
Can the community try for a repeat performance?
Cal Fam! We are back.
We are sooooo back.
You might remember that, a year ago, I shared the story of how I ended up representing Cal for the food drive at the school where I teach up here in Washington – and I asked for your help. All you did was blow everyone away and win a championship for Cal.
It’s time to defend that title.
I return to you this year humbly and thankfully. Because of our win last year, I got first choice of schools this year. I strongly considered switching to my alma mater and challenging all my fellow Cougs to exceed the bar the Bears had set. I love Washington State more than just about anything in my life that’s not related to me by blood, and the draw of representing the Crimson and Gray was strong.
I know you all feel the same way about UC Berkeley. Which is why I couldn’t pull the trigger – I just had to give us the chance to run it back.
Last year, you all donated more than $1,300 to help provide for the food insecure in our little community of Puyallup, Washington, which I spent on (insane amounts of) high-needs foodstuffs in the name of the California Golden Bears.
The result was winning the overall title, by a wide margin – many of you said you wanted to “leave no doubt,” and by golly, you really left no doubt. I promised to pay off in a few ways, which I did – but I’m realizing I never actually gave you a final update on that. Let’s do that now!
(If you’re already fired up and ready to donate to defend your title, you can cut right to the chase and Venmo me here!)
First off, I promised to wear a Cal shirt and teach a lesson to my class – complete with Powerpoint:
I also promised to permanently display the Cal flag in a prominent spot in my classroom:
So now, I throw it back to you: When we win again – and I know we will – what should I do this year? Same thing … or different?
While you’re pondering, I once again humbly ask: If YOU would like to help us address food insecurity in the Pierce County area while also helping my students push through to the overall championship – thereby WINNING ANOTHER TROPHY FOR CAL – you can send me donations via Venmo (@Jeffrey-Nusser). Or PayPal (jeff.nusser@gmail.com), or Cash App ($Nusscoug), or Apple Cash (send me an email and I’ll send you my number) or good ol’ fashioned check in the mail (again, send me an email and I’ll send my address) … but Venmo is definitely easiest.
The first round ends this week so all donations for this week needs to be sent by End of Day on Thursday, so purchases can be made and donations can be submitted!
Go Bears!
HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS: $530 already!!
Done! Fantastic work last year--that picture of the mountain of mac and cheese from Costco was a delight. And that was an impressively thorough job on the slides. Go Bears and Go Cougs!
