Golden Nuggets: 2:12 AM...Going Back for More Turkey
Some more Big Game Highlights, a discussion on UC Berkeley Bathrooms, and other tasty nuggets you might have missed!
What’s the story behind your Thanksgiving spread?
In light of Thanksgiving, UC Berkeley featured Professor of History Rebecca McLennan discussing why we eat what we eat on Thanksgiving. I’ll give you a spoiler and tell you she doesn’t talk about the origins of the Turducken.
Big Game Recap
Cal Football published the 127th Big Game Recap after Golden Nuggets posted last week, but man is it not worth watching like, 5 or 6 times straight through. Your author just watched it again and man, GOOSEBUMPS. EVERY TIME. Take a second and go watch. We can wait. Fun easter egg for those in the know, former Cal Coach Bruce Snyder’s Grandson is included in the video at the 07:00 mark.
What a Season!
Despite going 6-6, this past Football Season ranks pretty highly in, well, everything? The Calgorithm! Game Day! 98 Yards With My Boys! Making Auburn Bear Territory! How are you supposed to remember it all?
Well friends, future Pulitzer Prize in Poetry/Writing winner (he’s gonna hate that I say this but it’s true.) and Write For California alumnus Nam Le is compiling everything this season contained and asking for your help! Proceeds from the book will benefit Cal’s NIL fund, so get writing and keep an eye out for when the book drops!
Finishing What They Started
On Inside the Lair, Kyle McRae profiled Craig Woodson and Miles Williams about their last games of their collegiate careers in Dallas, their home towns.
Important On-Campus Research
Reddit user Taiyonomiya did an exhaustive study on campus, visiting numerous buildings and floors, seeking to answer the age old question, do Golden Bears poop in the woods? Well, kind of. On the post to the r/Berkeley subreddit, user Taiyonomiya describes the best porcelain thrones across Berkeley’s campus and concludes the best water closet is it Dwinelle Hall. Jokes on them, I can attest the best bathroom is Jim Knowlton’s private bathroom. Don’t ask how I know that.
Lions and Bears and MVPs
Our very own Michael Silver, now with The Athletic/New York Times, wrote a delightful article on Jared Goff ($), his fall from the Super Bowl LVI, getting traded to the Lions, bottoming out, turning it around, and posting the best record in the NFL, and the current betting favorite to win it all, in case you need a pick me up.
Oh the Equipment Manager is out on the Field!
By now you’ve all seen Cal’s Equipment Manager turned Linebacker and Preventer of Helmet Theft gloriously tackle the would be thief following Big Game. After the impressive show of form, Trevor Skogerboe will now be an Equipment Manager at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Congrats Trevor! Hopefully no one tries anything down in Mobile. Telemetry Sports also tracked the whole thing, clocking a top speed of 17 MPH.
Happy Senior Day!
Cal Volleyball recognized their 5 graduating seniors. Congrats Paige Morningstart, Gianna Bartalo, Ellie Hamm, Annalea Maeder, and Ava Mehrten!
Golden Bear Honors
Fernando Mendoza was named #10 on the QB Power Rankings by Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports.com. We won’t make a big deal about how they don’t have a headshot for him. Jeremiah Wilkinson was named ACC Rookie of the Week (I don’t think it will be his last.) Nohl Williams and Teddye Buchanan were named First Team All-ACC. Lachlan Wilson was named to the Second Team All-ACC. Craig Woodson and Xavier Carlton were named Third Team All-ACC. Nohl Williams (All Purpose), Cade Uluave (Linebacker) Jack Endries (Tight End), and Xavier Carlton (Linebacker) were named Honorable Mentions.
Cal Athletics Round Up
Volleyball beat Syracuse and Notre Dame. Women’s Basketball beat Arizona. Men’s Basketball beat Mercyhurst which I believe is an Eastern European delicacy served during the holidays. Men’s Basketball lost to Missouri. Football got some good exercise in Dallas.
Cal Pros Round Up
Cam Jordan wore cleats representing one of his charitable causes, AXE ALS. Jaylen Brown did Jaylen Brown things. Keenan Allen had a nice touchdown. Jared Goff threw for 2 more. Aaron Rodgers also had one.
Short week this week, what with the holiday and everything. As always, if I forgot something, please drop it in the comments! Happy Signing Day Friends!
That was the best Big Game Recap!
Thanks, Ben.
Obviously, the bowels of Bowles were not represented on the Reddit Rendering.
Who knows of the Purple Feces Fetcher?
