Golden Nuggets: Jahvid Best News, College Corps, and a Daily Cal Photo Essay
Rob told me I couldn't play Pokopia until this is done.
Hello and welcome to Golden Nuggets, our weekly recap article where we try to highlight all the fun, funny, or interesting things you might have missed roughly over the last week across Bear Territory (the whole damn world of course). Think of it like a cheat sheet for small talk about Cal.
Hot Links
World’s Fastest Police Officer
Jahvid Best got a glowing profile in the SF Chronicle this past week looking at his career as a current San Francisco Police Department Officer, a thing a number of people discovered in the last month in the lead up to the Super Bowl. Read the profile here.
College Corps
We start this week with a profile on the popular state program College Corps, one of the many programs within the California Service Corps, which pays students for community service work. The program is having a demonstrable impact, easing financial burdens to attend college for many students while also filling critical gaps in the K-12 education, climate action, and food insecurity spaces. It’s a great read that talks a bit about some of the UC Berkeley students enrolled in the program. Read it here.

And so we find ourselves again at the end of Golden Nuggets. I appreciate you all reading this, and I have a ton of fun writing it (except all I really want to do right now is play Pokopia). Tweaked the format a bit here based on what I’m seeing folks click on, so if you liked the old format let me know in the comments! Last week’s most clicked link was how to make your broccoli taste better. Here it is again. Okay time to go fix up Vermillion City.
