Golden Nuggets: Rugby, Kareem, and a little bit of Bowling
I'm sorry, Oski, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I'm the co-pilot.
Hello and welcome to Golden Nuggets! In this weekly write up, we try our best to cover all things Cal, Berkeley, Bearkeley UC Berkeley, University of Cal Berkeley, University of Berkeley at Cal, BerkeleyInspire, and California Berkeley University that happened more or less in the last week! Let’s dig in!
An Evening with Kareem
The Cal Alumni Association is hosting a fireside chat with noted Golden Bear Alumni (don’t fact check my on this I assume this is a part of their Calimony settlement), airplane pilot, and social activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
“Join us for an unforgettable evening with basketball legend, social justice champion, and New York Times bestselling author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the release of his latest book, We All Want to Change the World: My Journey Through Social Justice Movements from the 1960s to Today.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a former NBA superstar and six-time league MVP, known for his unstoppable skyhook and status as the league’s all-time leading scorer. Off the court, he has been a prominent social activist, advocating for civil rights, social justice, and education reform throughout his life.”
The Bancroft Library Collection: Not Including Cursed Oski Heads
The Bancroft Library was featured this week and got a chance to show off their collection, including the severed heads of former Oskis? The lore is confusing, but as I understand when a new Oski is chosen the former Oski’s head is removed and preserved so that one day it will re-attach to an unsuspecting student and create a world of Oskis. Anyways, the library also showed off materials from the 1911 Women’s Suffrage Campaign and one of Shakespeare’s First Folio’s, all of which are freely available for UC Berkeley Students to view! Pretty neat!
