Hello and welcome to Golden Nuggets! In this weekly write up, we try our best to cover all things Cal, Berkeley, Bearkeley, UC Berkeley, University of Cal Berkeley, University of Berkeley at Cal, BerkeleyInspire, and California Berkeley University that happened more or less in the last week! Let’s dig in!

Alas, your dear author is taking some much needed R&R this week and hopefully at the time of this publishing is out on a lake in a boat with a cooler full of trout. Or an empty cooler and an empty head.

Golden Bear Honors

• Professor Nad Permaul recieved the 2025 Berkeley Citation, one of the highest honors for an individual at UC-Berkeley.

• A lost 316 year old Stradivarius and one Berkeley senior fellow’s 15 year search.

• Group on campus working on reconstructing Mark Twain Autobiography from the 100 year old Mark Twain Papers.

• The end of another era in Berkeley as Half Price Books will be closing after 20 years of service.

Cal Athletics Round Up

• Cal Swimming and diving added to their roster with 2024 Olympian Airi Mitsui to the team. Mitsui represented Japan in the 2024 Paris Olympics and placed 11th in the 200m Fly.

• The Big Game is ranked as the _____ best college rivalry in the country??

• For all the gamers and simulators… the latest iteration of EA’s College Football is back. Take Cal to the National Championship? Rebuild the Pac-12? Do it all. Also Cal gets some funds from EA if people play with the team in the game so go ahead and help the cause!

• The Bears are headed to Scotland. Cal golf will take on other collegiate competition in the St. Andrew's Links Collegiate on October 13-15. If you can’t make the trip across the pond, you will be able to watch on Sky Sports or NBC Golf.

Cal Pros Round Up

• Cal Golf Alum Sampson Zheng clinged a spot at The Open with a runner-up finish at a qualifying event! The Open will be Sampson’s major championship debut.

• Cal Baseball Alum and former Golden Spikes winner recently got traded to another team that wears blue and gold. Of course, he feels at home and hits a 3 run homer at his first at-bat.
