Maybe it's just my bias toward wanting the ACC to stay together for Cal's sake, but it does seem like the ACC is winning the lawyer game. FSU's backup plan may be to just make as much noise as possible to satisfy their fans and maybe fund an earlier escape.
One thing I do hear from FSU fans is that there's no media deal beyond 2027 so the money is in jeopardy, but the ESPN deal has an option that's likely to be exercised. And, of course, the GOR would apply to any new media deal should ESPN decline.
I feel like FSU boxed themselves in by maybe riling up their fans or at least catering to their fans’ anger. It’s a starkly different approach from say Clemson and their fans, who are in a nearly identical situation. But you hear not a peep from them. Totally civil and rational.
Cynically, I could see being left out of the playoff as the right time to Leeroy Jenkins it for maximum attention and boosting. And they're the only ones in that position. Every FSU person I've met recites the party line so they're definitely pushing successful talking points.
Of course, claiming damages from missing the playoff is stupid because the playoff changes next year (and they probably wouldn't have run the table in the B1G or SEC anyway).
I've seen some FSU posters saying they really have nothing to lose except lawyer fees. If they win in court, great, but if they lose, they are where they started anyway. And one thing I had not considered, until reading your post, was that FSU may be using the whole ordeal as a way to generate donations.
Thanks Twist...curious if these analyses are getting any traction with our new ACC friends...my bet is that their response might be, "Holy Shit...these Cal guys be serious!" ...and that's a good and true thing!

True, although they were pretty geeked up before getting the short playoff straw pulled.

This longtime UVA and ACC fan likes it. Thanks and welcome aboard!
I think we have a regular Cal-UVA poster so you may have some company on your board. Can't remember who, unfortunately.

Clemson fan here, I'm certainly enjoying them. Look forward to seeing Cal play in the ACC!
