Jalen Cone had a season high 26 points, and Jaylon Tyson added 21 points and 11 rebounds, as Cal defeated the Santa Clara Broncos 84-69. Keonte Kennedy made his season debut for the Bears, scoring 10 points and providing all-around stability to the team.
Cal led by 14 at the half, and maintained a double digit lead for most of the second half. The Broncos got the lead down to 6 with around 7 minutes left. Jaylon Tyson scored 7 straight points to push the lead back up to 13. The Broncos never got closer.
Cal plays again next Saturday at Butler University at 9am Pacific Time.
The University of California also has a women's basketball program. That team was also in action today at Haas, defeating St. Mary's, 74-69 to run their record to 7-1.
Great win. Santa Clara has some nice wins. They were missing a key piece, but Cal was missing 2.
